TRUMP – Some Stimulation For Our Lethargy, Finally

Loading

Trump is running.  Finally some energy and dynamism gets showered on the Presidential race, but with the vast majority of the media laughing disparagingly at today’s announcement by Trump, including most of the pundits on the right, I dusted off the core of an article I published here on FA in April of 2011. Since few will be saying anything positive about Trump, mainly because he wears his ego on his sleeve, and not because of any lack in competence, I present the following points “copied” from “Trump As President,” which remain valid four years later.

Donald Trump

  • Trump is not ideologically anchored. This moves his appeal factor positively as he will carry little obligation to either political party. He will also present a more refreshing alternative to a public tired of Washington indebtedness to special interests. At the very least, he will be more honest with how he feels, and he will easily be more knowledgeable with on all topics than what we have seen subjected to since the last Presidential election.
  • A lack of ideological fervor also makes it more likely that from his perch in the Oval Office he would be a pragmatist. Unlike the embarrassingly far “left” rooted individuals choking the Obama Administration, Trump would most probably pluck the best talent, however it might present itself, wherever he could find it, and in whatever political flavor it might be drenched.
  • His insecurities mean his ego can be stroked to get his favor and attention, but he isn’t narcissistic. In Trump’s case the insecurities also suggest that he is driven to succeed.
  • Trump will surround himself with experienced talent, and it is unlikely that he will punt important decisions down the road, or to someone else, unlike Obama who is clearly controlled by his handlers and seems ready, willing and able, to have others take care of business. If and when America elects Trump, he will be the President, NOT one of his handlers.
  • Trump will not chase the Presidency in order to enable a retirement anxious for newfound opulence and luxury. Trump might be seduced, but he won’t be bought.
  • Trump will get into the face of anyone in his administration not delivering the goods whether on the economy, on international affairs, and on national affairs. His ego will not allow for anything to screw up. Trump will be a “task master.”
  • He’ll probably try to figure out how to get his name emblazoned over the White House front door. He has a tendency to “brand” everything he touches. One way or another, he’ll want the world to know “Donald Trump was here.” “Destiny” would be his middle name for at least four years.
  • Getting elected would not be Trump’s “crowning moment,” . . . the four years of his Presidency would be.
  • He may not be as bright as Slick Willy Clinton, however he isn’t as ideologically rooted, therefore his pragmatism will be more effective and he is likely to be more persuasive. Oh, and he will not tarnish the Oval Office the way Slick did.
  • He isn’t afraid of hard work, and his track record suggests an interested, inquisitive mind, unlike what we have recognized in the current occupant of the leather chair in the Oval Office.
  • Trump likes attention, obviously, but his need to be successful at everything he does, means he’s a workaholic, which would be a welcome change from the reality we have discovered in the incumbent.
  • Trump has been in the construction business in New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Chicago where he’s had to have a close and warm working relationship with the mob since the mob controls such minor and unimportant industries as Concrete. Those “guys” are not the easiest crowd in town to deal with. Trump knows how to ”get things done,” and will. When you need a guy, he “knows a guy.”
  • Trump cleaned his bankers – got the better of them through his now legendary recoveries from the grim shadows of the poorhouse, again, and again, and again. That took unmitigated brass.
  • Trump comes across as a bit of a lecher who could give Slick Willy a run for his money, but that’s just a perception. Slick used other people’s executive jets to take advantage of impressionable young women, and the whole world knew about it except Hillary. Trump has his own plane.
  • Love for America? It is impossible to deny that Trump really loves America, and is passionate about its success and leadership in the world.
  • Contributions to both political parties? You’re kidding? . . . . Who cares. He bought some support. That’s what Congress is there for, . . . to be bought. The results are obvious and ever present.
  • Trump has a long track record of being a leader. America is longing for a leader who can deliver more than long words on a teleprompter saying little and delivering less.
  • Genuflection – somehow that is not a picture of a President Trump and any foreign head of state which would be served up by the MSM. Ever. Knocking fists? Perhaps. Genuflection? Not much.
  • Trump’s fluid I-speak-my-mind-regardless-who-I’m-talking-to approach would be a refreshing alternative from the daily decantings of unrelenting telepromptered dronings we are served from the White House. Not that Trump’s musing are all intelligent, many are fused in common sense, but at least he’s entertaining when he drives off the road.

I don’t particularly like the man, and I don’t agree with many things he does or says, however, in an America where so many politicians have been bought, Trump can’t be.  Plus he knows how to hire talent and lead it. He is a very successful Manager and clever Negotiator, both critical if there is any hope that the great Ship America can be turned away from the shoals of disaster.   Neither Obama nor Clinton have shown any capacity for such.  And the Republican field, . . .  the Obamatrade disaster has sunk the barge most were floating on.  Trump entering the field will liven the debate and stimulate all voters to consider what is important to bring America back from its slumber.

Democrat or Republican, Trump is what people SAY they want; someone that cannot be bribed and will speak and act honestly. What a contrast to Hillary he is (both are rich, but Trump actually understands where money comes from).

Trump has tried and succeeded AND tried, failed, and came BACK and succeeded. Hillary has…. what, lied and got away with it? Trump is Trump and Hillary is Rolo Tomassi.

This will be interesting, if nothing else.

The American Thinker has an essay up about ”intellectualoids,” people who are mentally lazy but can fool many into believing they are very smart.
The article focuses on black ones, like Obama, but I think Trump fits this category, sans the racial component.
http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2015/06/obama_and_the_black_intellectualoids_.html
The Washington Post’s Fact Checker takes on a number of Trump’s ”whoppers.”
It finds that he adeptly parses partial facts to his own favor, a lot.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/wp/2015/06/17/fact-checking-donald-trumps-presidential-announcement-speech/
It also has tremendous issues with his statement about his wealth’s worth.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/06/16/6-reasons-you-cant-believe-anything-donald-trump-says-about-his-9-billion-net-worth/

I was honestly surprised when Trump actually threw his hat into the ring.
He’s been such a tease for so long, I thought he’d continue that route.
I’d look for him to leave the Republican Party in a huff, IF he doesn’t do well in polls, straw polls. caucuses, and therefore doesn’t get into debates.
He might quit and walk away with a, ”I could have won,” line OR he might run as a 3rd party candidate, a la Ross Perot.
I really think his ego is such that, if he doesn’t see himself with a path to victory, he will act out and not care who he hurts.
He will NEVER throw his support to a more viable Republican.
He would rather be a spoiled brat who divides off enough voters to help the Democrats win.
I really hope I’m wrong in this.

Trump is noting but an American personification of a buffoon.

@Nanny G:

If he runs 3rd party, do you think he might siphon votes from both parties or primarily from one of the two major parties?

I have a goofy name for his supporters: “Trumpeteers”.

@Wordsmith: He couldn’t siphon off enough votes to empty a Prius tank.
May make the debate at #10. Should be fun watching him blast the other 9..
“Trumpeteers” lol

@Wordsmith: I think he’d draw from both parties but do more harm to the Republicans because of the ”he had to leave the Republican Party” excuse from his Republican supporters to either hold your nose and vote some other Republican, sit home, or vote for him as an Independent.
Dems are so willing to vote for Hillary that I think they will suffer fewer lost votes to him.

I see Trump’s candidacy as a live grenade tossed into a room. He knows the longer he stays in the race, the more dangerous he becomes as a candidate, especially if he gathers more support. But, as James noted in the above comment, his mouth runs ahead of his brain, he runs the risk of saying something really stupid. It is the only predictable thing Trump does.

@James Raider:

As most now realize, he was/is such a blank slate, that a majority of voters just injected him with their wishes or dreams and thought all would be well and the oceans would calm. He was SOLD by lying salesmen like Jarrett & Co. who used him quite effectively to achieve power and wealth

“SOLD” – Zing. your opinion of him is so subtle and difficult to parse. Dog wistles aren’t supposed to be braying bullhorns, James. Perhaps your opinion of your readers is such that you fear they’d miss something less on the nose. But back to your point, the black blank slate, “sold” by his massers. He just done fumbled his way to heights beyond your wildest dreams, which obviously makes no sense because you’re a hard working conservative white man and he’s …. got a teleprompter.

Oh you forgot to mention basketball and ESPN. You’re slipping.

@James Raider:

One the things I DO like about Trump is that I know that when it comes to facing the dictators like some of the goons in the M.E. such as those running Saudi Arabia, he won’t be doing any genuflecting. He’ll kick ass with them, which no President has done in two decades.

Tough Talk – is it cheap or expensive, I can’t remember?

Kick some ass is he? Are you volunteering to go over with him, my jingoistic friend? I’ll pay both your tickets.

@Tom: I wonder if even YOU know what you are talking about? Just because YOU are racist and see racism in every word doesn’t mean everyone else does, too.

@James Raider:

Speaking of sycophants, you don’t have to employ one in a ridiculous pretense to respond to my post, james. Arguing your case to Bill is typical of your tactical dishonestly, considering he’s one of those readers you’ve so carefully cultivated through your frequent unproven and outrageous claims, not to mention your “interesting” take on Obama as a person (or puppet). You give your readers what they desire, that charge they get from rubbing up against a taboo they hate, but are too afraid to violate on their own. They are nodding vigorously with everything you have to say, but don’t quote them. And you get something too I imagine, a cadre of likeminded fans to stroke your ego on demand.

I cannot say I am a Trump supporter.

However, if it came down to Trump versus Bush, Huckabee, Hillary, Sanders or O’Malley, I would be forced to pick Trump.

Would have preferred to vote for a Cruz/Walker ticket, but with Cruz supporting Obamatrade, I am not so sure anymore.

Trump’s comments regarding building a wall across our Southern border would be worth my vote.

@Nanny G: I don’t think he will make it to the nomination. This is almost a reality show in the making. His worth is about 2 billion, not 9. That’s one reason he will drop out so his net worth won’t be revealed. His mention of Ooprah is a clown act.

@Rich Wheeler: I’m certainly not ‘for’ him, but he would, no doubt, make a far superior president than Obozo has been or Hillary could ever be.

@Tom:14

on Obama as a person (or puppet).

I understand your confusion, but puppet is correct.

For all those who want to put Donald Trump down, call him what you will, BUT, be prepared to create the wealth and the JOBS he has and which he continues to do… the joke is really on them it is they who are wrong.

No one can be more pompous, negative, divisive, corrupt, lying, deceitful, distasteful, narcissistic, ugly, hateful or dripping with a terrible ideology than Obama, the empty suit “community organizer” (now, that is a laugh!) NO REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE….

That’s it Donald vow to shake up Washington DC!!
Donald is a exceptional businessman, he has, we can SEE tangible evidence of his huge success.
We need an exceptional businessman who has Real World Knowledge,not Academics who want to ‘lecture’ everyone – something they are ‘used to’ doing..lectures and the Division Of A Nation do not solve America’s HUGE PROBLEMS….especially OUR Economy, Jobs and our DEBT….

Donald surrounds himself with WINNERS….with the RIGHT people for the JOB.

Donald is a Breath of Fresh Air… say what you want I sincerely Hope he WINS!

I would VOTE for Trump tomorrow if elections were held! Seriously, I feel hope with this man, something I haven’t felt in YEARS…

I can feel his passion for this Great Country every time he speaks.

He will definitely not be in this for accolades, narcissism, money or claiming (“I” “i” “i” “i” ) “I” take all the credit for others hard work…. smh

@FAITH7: It doesn’t bother you that he said the ideal VP would be Ooprah?

#21 – I actually had to catch my breath when I heard him say that. He said they are good friends… and he also said VP is ‘not for her’ she would not like it….then I was able to slowly exhale… I think you get the drift of my feelings at the moment like this 🙁

Oophra endorsed Obama (ugh) swayed a lot of people too….Donald can throw her name around if it secures more of a following and votes….why not…

Rader #22 – Good post btw.

I have stayed at Donald’s Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. In it’s better days the place was really spectacular…now it is getting ‘worn’ – Donald hasn’t owned it in years….now Donald Sells his “brand” and makes some Great Cash flow doing so….

Donald is so correct telling us that Politicians will “promise” you the moon and deliver nothing…I see what Donald can do…again he surrounds himself with ‘real thinkers’ …not idiots.

James I am so worn out hearing every one (Democrats/White Liberals/Liberal Blacks) in this country complain about any and everything when they really have the world at their feet….Donald has a no-nonsense side and will do what is necessary for the country that I am sure…this is opposed to stealing from us to pay off contributors.

Fiorina is brilliant. I really like her….VP?

Trump’s a blowhard who shows up every 4 years–throws some hand grenades ,gathers a handful of votes and sulks off in abject defeat–2016 will be no different
Faith7 Fiorini?? You may be her lone supporter.

@Tom:

Arguing your case to Bill is typical of your tactical dishonestly, considering he’s one of those readers you’ve so carefully cultivated through your frequent unproven and outrageous claims

Tom, I am not a liberal so I am not “cultivated”; I have my own thoughts and ideas, not those given to me by liberal masters, along with the rule that unless I strictly abide by those thoughts, I could be kicked out of liberaldom.

Up until your post arrived, no mention or hint or anything racial was present… you, without an applicable, off-the-shelf liberal thought available, had to wing it, “thinking” on your own and, well, whiffing, accusing someone of racism, the reliable fall back redoubt position of all liberals, was the best you could do. Pathetic.

@rich wheeler: But, Rich…. you seem to LOVE blowhards. Teddy, Bill, Hillary, Obama, Biden, Gore, Kerry…. Lord, the list could continue forever.

At least this is a blowhard that has actually accomplished something in his life besides blowing hard, on his own, other than being on the government payroll.

@Bill: Donald “i’m very rich” Trump is a classless loose cannon. Fortunately 99% of Americans can easily see him for the reckless self promoter that he is.
PREDICTION 1st Fox debate—TOP 10 QUALIFY Rubio,Walker,Bush,Carson,Paul,Huckabee,Cruz,Christie,Perry,Kasich or BLOWHARD

@rich wheeler: Speaking of blowhards, you have succeeded in much writing without addressing my point.

But, to YOUR point, apparently you don’t want someone that will not be susceptible to bribes or influence and speaks openly and honestly (well, obviously not, based on your choices up till now).

I have no idea if Trump is anything like the senior director we had a while back, but if he is, Trump would make a wonderful President. For the first time in my career, excuses were worthless; if another department was causing me delay, he addressed that other department immediately (if they were being used as an excuse, that was rapidly discovered and the wrath would turn back towards the accuser). If people were not supporting me even though I had struggled to make it happen, the question would arise, “Why didn’t you call me? My phone didn’t ring.” If another party was at fault for delaying progress, that was dealt with and then I had to complete the task of supporting the team, not wasting the efforts of others.

Everyone knew what to expect and everyone knew the cost of failure. It was strenuous and stressful (no so much, though, as long as one simply did their job and kept him informed) and eventually the weak links were weeded out. Since HIS reputation was on the line, all that mattered was ability and performance; he knew HE had no excuses, either.

“I can’t get it done on time because the people won’t work hard enough.” “Don’t they work for you? If you can’t motivate them or replace them, then you are the problem.” No excuses, no where to hide. Perform or go home.

That is how a President needed to be. Enough of this, “We failed because we didn’t have enough money.” “We failed because Republicans kept us from succeeding.” “We failed because some people were racist.” Excuses; worthless. No leader would allow it and a President should eliminate it. Obama wallows in excuses, as does Hillary. I would just hazard a bet that Trump, with his ego on the line, would perform somewhat differently.

But liberals don’t want performance or success. They want excuses and to be allowed to fail.

@Bill: This clown is paying actors to don t-shirts and cheer for him.
If you reactionaries wanna support this guy, go for it. Be forewarned it won’t make your struggle to secure The Presidency any easier..

@rich wheeler: I’ll just bet you have a source to confirm that. You know, something sort of like this:

Hillary has millions of ‘fake’ Twitter followers

@Bill: #29,

Excuses; worthless. No leader would allow it and a President should eliminate it. Obama wallows in excuses, as does Hillary.

We have seen little more than blame and deflection for 6 years, applauded from the throngs of ignorance, sinking slowly into a quicksand of impoverishment.

“Excuses” don’t instill confidence or inspiration. They convey and nurture a mindset of Dependence. Eventually, apathy sets in.

@Bill: One of the main differences between your effective new boss and a President Trump is UNIONS.
Your boss could kick out a failed worker.
Our federal workforce is unionized.
Even a boss like yours could not weed out bad workers.
I read about the VA about a year back.
Doctors who cared about their patients were dependent on unionized workers to find their files.
But those workers never found them.
So, the doctors would look for and find them…..then get written up!
Getting a job done during the day is discouraged in the federal unions.
Trump would be thwarted, and he couldn’t just walk away.
He’d be stuck for 4 years, spinning his wheels.
We’d see an angry, frustrated president Trump, not an effective one.

@James raider:

“Excuses” don’t instill confidence or inspiration. They convey and nurture a mindset of Dependence. Eventually, apathy sets in.

As a reference point, in yesterday’s paper, on this day in 2010, BP’s Tony Howard sat before the Senate committee and was lambasted for saying he was not previously aware of the shortcomings of their drilling and recovery operations. How many times since have we heard the exact same lame-ass excuse out of Obama? And, how many in this administration have been fired for incompetence or criminal activity rather than allowed to retire with full benefits?

@Bill: Funny how you should bring this up. Just to show how leadership at the top sets the tone for those below and how this administration doesn’t accept responsibility and always has an excuse and how it trickles down, today I received notice from OPM that my personal information from my 30 years in the USAR, which included multiple background checks for my clearance, was most likely compromised in the recent cyber attack. After patting themselves on the back by telling me how they discovered the compromise (not how they prevented it like they should have but didn’t), they made sure to state, “Nothing in this letter should be construed as OPM or the U.S. Government accepting liability for any of the matters covered in this letter or for any other purpose.” Who then is liable for not safeguarding millions of people’s personal information if it’s not the custodians of that information?

@another vet:

Who then is liable for not safeguarding millions of people’s personal information if it’s not the custodians of that information?

Particularly when this administration has been harping on cyber security since coming to power! Just like the VA, it would appear that the only reason this administration acknowledges problems is to begin collecting the money to address them; then they simply waste the money away and do nothing.

@Bill:It was all Bush’s fault again.

So, who’s been following Trump’s ”brilliant” back&forth with Univision?
Univision is America’s most watched channel.
Trump made the remark about how illegals are rapists and drunk drivers.
Univision called him on it.
Trump backed down admitting that plenty of good people also come in illegally.
Univision cancelled his beauty pageant.
Trump then petualantly kicked Univision execs off his golf course (that is very near their headquarters.)
So, today NBC ( a partner with Univision) also cancelled both Trump’s beauty pageants.

This this the kind of off-script, adolescent, off-the-cuff and over-the-top stuff you want from a PRESIDENT?
Are you crazy?

@Nanny G: I believe it is if you are a reactionary Repub. He’s playing to that 20-25% of the party. With 15 or 16 competing in the primaries he figures to get some wins with only 15% of the vote. The louder and meaner he becomes the better his chances to steal a few wins from 2)Walker 3)Bush 4)Rubio 5) Carson 6)Cruz 7)Huckabee 8)Paul–65% between them but no one candidate getting more than 12-14%. Then also rans Christie Santorum Fiorini Kasich Graham Jindal etc final 20%

@Nanny G: Univision and NBC are shunning Trump for doing nothing but stating a fact. It is a FACT that large quantities of drugs and criminals come across our porous borders and that many citizens are the victims of crime at the hands of illegal immigrants.

Further, as is usually the case with leftists pushing an agenda, they misrepresent Trump’s statements in order to fabricate a reason to be outraged. Trump did not disparage immigrants. He spoke factually about illegal immigrants. Any American concerned for their country should be right along side Trump on his position on illegal immigration. Those wanting to dilute the power of the American citizen oppose him.

I don’t know how this credits him as a Presidential candidate, but he is exactly right and the left is, as usual, putting ideology before the law.

@Nanny G: Bill seems to be exactly the kinda guy Trump is looking to for support. There may be enough of these “mad as hell—–” hate the Libs, BHO, and minorities to get him 15% primary wins. Believe that is Trump’s strategy. If he somehow got the nom–very unlikely–. the beat down he would take in the general would be the worst since Reagan over Mondale in 84. Repubs would take a number of election cycles to recover.

@rich wheeler: While Trump would be a quantum leap improvement over Obama (the greatest failure at President ever seen), all I said was that Trump was correct in his statement about illegal immigrants.

NBC has some room to talk when it employs the racist’s racist, Sharpton. But, you leftists don’t care about hypocrisy of dishonesty, do you?

At least with Trump, you can determine if you like him or not by what he says. Yet, you prefer to be lied to on a regular basis.

@Bill“:With Trump you can decide if you like him or not by what he says.”
Concur—He doesn’t care if 4 of 5 don’t like him. That hate filled far right is who he’s hoping will get him the Repub. nom. If that MAJOR upset should occur he’ll be left clueless as to how to win the G.E.

BTW Though Trump currently stands 8th at 4.2% RCP poll—He is 2nd only 2% behind Bush in Fox News poll– garnering 11%
Latest entry Christie–two chances slim and none.

@rich wheeler:

That hate filled far right is who he’s hoping will get him the Repub. nom.

Who IS that “hate-filled far right”, Rich? Skin heads? White supremacists? Is that who you feel Trump thinks he can win with? Hardy har, har, Rich. Your random-slur generator needs to be calibrated.

Meanwhile, over on the left, you have Hillary, who the left is so desperately looking for an alternative to that they are seriously considering an outright socialist (not a closet socialist like Hillary or Obama) who contends that he like to imagine that women like to be gang-raped while he is spanking his monkey. Considering how hard the left hammered Romney simply because he put prospective women job prospect resumes in folders, explain why Hillary has not lashed out at THIS view of women by Bawdy Bernie? OH, that’s right… she would have to come out of her lead-lined bunker to make a statement.

Whoa. You have my sympathies.

@Bill: Yeah You can add homophobes and racists to his base. Remember he’ll only need 15% to 17% to win majority of primaries in this crowded field.
You in?

@rich wheeler: Christie was toast before he entered. Everyone sees him as a roly poly buffoon.

@rich wheeler: Yeah, that’s right; that’s all that exists over here, homophobes, racists and skinheads. Why can’t we be more like the tolerant, reasonable, open-minded left? Why can’t we be more like you, Rich? You and Alec Baldwin? And Sean Penn?
