The Government Has a Plan to Drastically Change How You Eat! (Guest Post)

I know what’s been weighing on your mind – you’re probably wishing that there was a team of bureaucrats ready to tell you how drastically altering your diet will not only save you but the entire planet as well. Well this is your lucky day! A committee has released recommendations that will be passed along to the USDA and HHS. Elizabeth Harrington for The Free Beacon reports:

The federal committee responsible for nutrition guidelines is calling for the adoption of “plant-based” diets, taxes on dessert, trained obesity “interventionists” at worksites, and electronic monitoring of how long Americans sit in front of the television.

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) released its far-reaching 571-page report of recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thursday, which detailed its plans to “transform the food system.”

This is not a new story, and the public comment window closed a few days ago. If you want to see a great collection of comments that read like a left wing atheist’s prayer to their god of Big Government:

O wise and just Dietary Guidelines Dietary Commission, please bestow the power of your wisdom unto those agencies that might humble non-believers. Smite those who use antibiotics, hormones, chemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides! Strike down those who deny that the climate end is nigh! We humbly beg of you to force the right choices unto those too unenlightened to do so themselves.

I could easily copy and paste the entire article, but here is one of the juicier sections of this proposal to invade our lives courtesy of left wing extremists:

As expected, the committee recommended that Americans move toward “plant-based” diets, after months of discussions in meetings regarding environmentalism and food policy.
DGAC said its recommendations to eat less meat are intended to “maximize environmental sustainability” out of concerns for climate change.
“The major findings regarding sustainable diets were that a diet higher in plant-based foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, and lower in calories and animal-based foods is more health promoting and is associated with less environmental impact than is the current U.S. diet,” DGAC said.

DGAC recommended Mediterranean-style and vegetarian diets as the best options. Vegan, lacto-ovo vegetarian, pesco-vegetarian, and Mediterranean diets are the most environmentally friendly, with the least greenhouse gas emissions, it said.

“All of these dietary patterns are aligned with lower environmental impacts and provide options that can be adopted by the U.S. population,” the report said. “Current evidence shows that the average U.S. diet has a larger environmental impact in terms of increased greenhouse gas emissions, land use, water use, and energy use, compared to the above dietary patterns. This is because the current U.S. population intake of animal-based foods is higher and plant-based foods are lower, than proposed in these three dietary patterns.”

Read the whole thing. It is comforting to see at least some honesty in the recommendations, in that they are partially motivated by radical left wing social engineering in the name of their religion of Climate Change. I pointed out something similar to this a few months ago in a proposed plan by The Department of Transportation. But by now we should all be ready to follow left wing extremists in their faith in unelected bureaucrats making decisions over our lives. Just because:

They were wrong about salt

They were wrong about cholesterol

They were wrong about low-fat products

They were wrong about carbs

They were wrong about red meat

is no reason to start questioning the faith. Based on how wrong the government has been in the past with their recommendations, I am going to make a bold prediction for 20 years from now when the government admits that it was wrong in pushing people toward a vegan diet. Their admission will probably read something like this: “We have found that the meatless, vegan life style to have produced unpredictable consequences in those who have followed these guidelines. If you took our advice you are far more likely to be miserable, self-righteous, judgmental, along with having an unfounded faith in Big Government. And you probably smell funny.”

Just look at how well forcing farmers to produce corn for ethanol worked out. Talk about environmental impact. But, at least Algore was able to make some bucks.

If these people could see the environmental impact I make when I eat okra, cabbage or beans, they would rethink their agenda.

The GOP is not surviving and it looks like the most obese states are all red ones and they also have the shortest life expectancy. Maybe a better diet WOULD help. The GOP has only one the popular vote once since ’92? And 2016 isn’t looking too good either so eat right and exercise. Fortunately we Dems get to eat a lot of lobster and crab legs, so we are healthier and get to live longer

Movement towards a plant based diet—simple common sense. Don’t need Fed advice or intervention.

Michelle Obama had some summer eating advice: Instead of making S’Mores make a substitute.
This substitute is marshmallow paste slapped on a warm piece of pineapple in between two pieces of angel food cake.
http://bulletsfirst.net/2014/09/09/obama-administration-attempting-murder-smore/
Another of her versions is replacing the indulgent chocolate and marshmallow with Strawberry and yogurt – low fat of course.

Apparently its been a while since our much lipo’ed 1st lady has done a day of hiking in the woods.
Calories get burned and must be replaced.
The S’More 1st appeared as a recipe in 1927 in the Girls Scout’s cookbook!

Obamaphone comes to high speed internet. Now you get to pay for Latrina’s 27 illegitimate crack babies internet also. You can comment on it in discus

I sure as hell hope that they can get their food from some place other than Kommieforniastan. When Moonbeam is done with us we’ll all have faded plastic flowers and not much else. Now they’re talking about having us use fake grass and ‘drought tolerant’ plants, I’m sure that’ll make the heat islands of our Metro areas nice and cozy during the summer. Moonbeams plan is to drive working people out of this state. Seems to be working.

@Bill:

Oh look at you with your ‘Algore!’ What an out of date douchenozzle! You do realize this forced farming gave needy farmers a heavy subsidy, right? Of course not. Moron.

@Steve: There’s that compassion or lack therof we’ve come to know from douchey tbaggers. You realize Bush started this program, right? And so we are advancing to the internet. So fucking what? Loser.

@Steve: There’s that compassion or lack thereof we’ve come to know from douchey tbaggers. You realize Bush started this program, right? And so we are advancing to the internet. So fucking what? Loser.

The committee should all be forced to the movie Intolerance in one sitting just to see how “do gooders” destroy lives.

@Msefge:

You do realize this forced farming gave needy farmers a heavy subsidy, right? Of course not. Moron.

So, it was the FARMER’S fault? This was the government’s idea, you sycophantic, mindless idiot, to make us more “energy independent” through the greening of the energy industry. Not only has ethanol production been a failure but so has the solar panel and battery reward-for-campaign-support industry.

Stupid.

If this style of economic policy continues, we will be eating sawdust and grass, like every other communist country has ended up.

We are omnivorous. We need protein. It doesn’t help that our lifestyles and work requirements cause many to become sedentary, but eating lettuce for a diet is not the answer.

The liberal wackos have cows and say stay out of my bedroom. I say stay out of my kitchen, it doesn’t kill innocent babies!!

@Common Sense: Aren’t calves and young pigs “innocent babies”–sentient beings that feel pain like us? How do you feel about those that kill and eat dogs? Any different?
JOHN “DO-GOODERS DESTROY LIVES” There it is–the conservative credo–sad.

@rich wheeler: Simple Rich, God’s word provides that the aforementioned is edible!! Murdering innocent human life is NOT!! Thanks for the come back and question though.

@Common Sense: We must worship a different God. The slaughter of any innocent sentient being for consumption is clearly wrong.Would you kill a dog to consume it? Consumption of violence–not for me.
BTW i oppose abortion on principle but as a man don’t feel I have the right to control a woman’s body. I would always counsel adoption.

Whazzup?

@rich wheeler: They are food. Despite the idiotic left wing attempt to bestow human rights to chimpanzes, animals are animals.

I’m sort of getting tired of all of this. We all know how badly it will all end up. What a disaster it would be!!

@Bill: Humans are also animals–we gonna eat them–how bout dogs and cats? Wait we do eat them. How do we choose which ones to eat and which ones to love?

@rich wheeler: http://conservativetribune.com/disgusting-michelle-school-lunches/
Most of Michelle Obama’s mystery meat lunches are beef and pork, Rich.
She makes sure millions of animals die to create her obscene foods, like that weird-looking white meat patty and that awful-looking meat slop.
What I object to is the WASTE her food causes.
Animals gave their all for our school children to eat some protein.
Michelle Obama’s limitations on how they be served caused their lives to go to waste.
Shame on her!

Edited to add:
How can you hold that point of view and also hold a view that abortion should be allowed from 8 weeks after conception onward?
It has been shown by spinal reflex that humans in the womb feel and react to pain (thereby being ”sentient”) by that point in their development.
Does cognitive dissonance give you a headache?

@rich wheeler: I worship the one true and living God and his word provides the foundation of what I choose to eat or not eat. The more disgusting behavior is those who try and tell others what they should and should NOT eat. When it comes to a mans eternal salvation food is of minor importance. I was brought up in a farming town in Iowa and ate meat, vegetables, and starch as did the rest of my family. My father passed at 86 and my mother is alive at 92. Far too much energy is wasted on such distractions. This is a typical liberal wacko distraction attempting to move America away from the important issues of Islamic Terrorism, corruption of Government, and race baiting. Sadly our MSM is in bed with the distractors!! Eat what you choose and I will do the same.

@rich wheeler: Animals are here for our use. Humans are, supposedly (there can be an argument against it, supported by behavior of late) the top of the food chain.

If you would like to eat a dog… be my guest. Best not be MY dog.

I’m not sure which one i like better Animals are here for our use–Bill or
Do-gooders destruy lives–John

What do you guys think?

Common Sense Nobody ie TELLING you what to eat.
Nobody should tell me how to read The Bible and communicate with my God.

“The greatness of a nation and it’s moral progress can be determined by the way it treats it’s animals.” Mahatma Gandhi–my kind of Liberal

@rich wheeler: Common Sense Nobody ie TELLING you what to eat.
Nobody should tell me how to read The Bible and communicate with my God.

“The greatness of a nation and it’s moral progress can be determined by the way it treats it’s animals.” Mahatma Gandhi–my kind of Liberal

So, who’s telling people what to eat?
Obama’s Administration.
The FDA was wrong about salt, red meat, coffee, saturated fat, sugar, etc.
Now they want to tell us we should starve ourselves of protein.
One of my brothers is a nutritionist.
He points out that there are NO complete amino acids coming naturally from vegetation.
Even beans and rice must be ”cooked” by having lime juice (expensive) drizzled on them to add amino acids.
When Obama was running for president, then early on in his presidency he allowed menus to be published as to dinners.
Michelle, on her own at a hotel, ate TWO full lobster dinners!
The White House offered Kobe beef, Wabi beef, sea bass (taking sea bass is strictly limited in So Cal) lobster, crab, cheesecakes, pies, brownies, etc.
But look at the mandated Michelle school lunches!
They are AWFUL!
The waste is what bugs me about them.
Animals die for us to eat, we should not fix them so as to make them unpalatable.

Far be it from me to tell you HOW to read the Bible, Rich.

a hint as to WHERE to start reading, I will give you;
when we were placed in the Garden of Eden we were PERFECT and only needed vegetation to eat. Gen 1: 29-30.
But when we fell from Grace we REQUIRED meat. Gen 9:2-4.

Lastly, as to how we kill food animals.
The US has many laws about how to humanely take an animal’s life.
I can recall feeling quite bad when I had to hunt down a deer I hit with a less-than-instant-kill-shot.
I made sure from then on.
When we fish we make sure to kill any fish we are going to eat as quickly and painlessly as possible.
So many people have no idea about factory killed cattle, pigs and sheep.
But laws impose tremendous limits on how they may kill their animals.
Lately both Kosher and Halal killed animals are coming under legal scrutiny.
The Masai slit the jugular of cattle and drink the blood with no seeming ill effect on the animals.
Kosher and Halal kills occur the same way except that the animal loses enough blood to die (apparently just as painlessly) and then are bled completely.

Anyway, the EPA is taking control of ditches and puddles simply so it can cut down on the number of food animals we have available for sale.
Obama is the one telling us what we should eat, not his opposition.

@Bill: I don’t eat any animals. Plenty of folks do enjoy eating dogs. Many enjoy eating cows and pigs. Is there a difference? By what rationale?

@rich wheeler: in fact, Obama himself likes a little filet of Fido every so often, doesn’t he?

I had barbecue Friday, steak and shrimp Saturday and a chef salad (with ham, chicken and bacon) Sunday.
Under many more like this administration though, you’re likely to hear someone yelling “Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!”

@Bill: May i assume you are physically fit, taking no meds and doing aerobic and anaerobic exercise on a regular basis?
Must admit eating plant based diet much easier with a lovely Latin wife who can cook with spices that provide incredible flavor. Honestly don’t miss the meat and chicken. Feel great at 70.

You still backing Walker?—IMO he’s digging a hole that will hurt him on the national leveL—.if he gets that far–right now looks like about 17 will fight for top 10 spots in FOX DEBATE

@rich wheeler: I wouldn’t assume anything, if I were you. I am about 30 lbs overweight, but I get exercise running up and down the stairs at work, much walking at work and walking all over swap meets for antique car parts. I am not svelte by any means but neither am I “obese” and ready to card out.

To each his own in regards to what one eats.

There have been no Republican debates yet. Walker just seems to have the most on his resume’ right now.

@Nanny G: RE Bible Are you saying we were perfect when we didn’t eat animals -then fell from grace and ate animals—was God punishing us?

You say laws impose restrictions on slaughter houses–I dare you to watch 4 minute video Farm To Fridge Concern should be not only for the slaughtered animals but the workers who commit this slaughter–watch it then get back. Thanks

@rich wheeler: God withdrew perfection (including our perfect digestive system) from humans.
After that vegetarian diet was less able to supply all our nutritional needs.
As a mercy toward us God allowed us to eat meat, virtual vegetable-predigesting machines.
As for how some people have killed animals against the laws, I am well aware that had gone on.
Nobody likes to watch how his sausage is made.
But all that undercover film led to shut downs, fines and penalties.

@Nanny G: Not so–the slaughter continues–but you are right that undercover film exposing the cruel violence is helping in spite of meat industries attempt to pass ag gag laws
I challenge all to watch Farm To Fridge—I believe RT watched it—Good man. Any one with an ounce of guts or compassion should know “how their sausage is made”

God permited us to eat meat as a Mercy you say–He’s got a strange sense of humor

@rich wheeler:

Perhaps you should watch a video of an abortion. Then come back and tell us how you are personally opposed to abortion (a cop-out position for any man) but don’t feel you have the right to decide what a woman does with her own body, although it involves the life of another. And after watching the video of an abortion, tell me that the life of a dog is just as important.

God permited us to eat meat as a Mercy you say–He’s got a strange sense of humor

I guess you can add mocking God to your liberal resume.

Dump the muscle shirts. You’re too damn old for them.

@retire05: Muscle shirts? Generally i’m wearing no shirt and casual shorts when I jog on the beach or swim in the ocean. How’s your fitness level old 5?
Thought Nan’s story about us being perfect vegetarians and then God punishing us by screwing up our digestive system forcing us to require the cosumption of animals..—-strange
Do you think women should be prosecuted when they have abortions?
I believe women should be counseled towards adoption.Adoptions should be much easier.
.

@rich wheeler:

How’s your fitness level old 5?

Well, compared to you, it seems I’ve been immensely blessed.

Thought Nan’s story about us being perfect vegetarians and then God punishing us by screwing up our digestive system forcing us to require the cosumption of animals..—-strange

God did put Adam and Even in a garden. Not on a cattle farm.

Do you think women should be prosecuted when they have abortions?

No, I think doctors should be prosecuted when they perform abortions. Murder is murder.

I believe women should be counseled towards adoption.Adoptions should be much easier.

Women should be taught that you left wingers lied to them. There is no such thing as “free” love and killing an unborn child is flat out wrong. All that crap about “safe and ‘rare'” was just that, left wing b/s.

So, when are you going to watch a video of an abortion, Rich? Or don’t you have the stomach for it?

@retire05: I expect your fitness level is VERY low.–particularly when compared to mine.I’ve watched an abortion video and as you know I oppose abortion
People like you 05 are the very best things libs have going for them in national elections.As long as oldtimers like you are the voice of Conservatives your continued defeat is a certainty. Thank you for that.

@rich wheeler:

I expect your fitness level is VERY low.–particularly when compared to mine.

What you like to think, and what is reality, are two different things. As I said, I have been immensely blessed.

I’ve watched an abortion video

Which one?

and as you know I oppose abortion

Yet, you push the end to killing animals for a food source. I doubt you exert that much effort to end abortion. But if I want to be like you I can always say “No, I don’t believe in cruel killing of animals for food, but hey, who am I to tell the packing house owner how to conduct his business?” That would be just as hypocritical as your position on abortions.

People like you 05 are the very best things libs have going for them in national elections.

You’re right, I am. I am fortunate to be constantly in the company of young adults and have the opportunity to give them clear cut examples of how the progressivism that you support is a total failure.

As long as oldtimers like you speak as the voice of Conservatives continued defeat is a certainty. Thank you for that.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s what you left wingers said when Reagan ran. How’d that work out? Name one, just ONE, social policy of the left that has been a success. And don’t use Social Security, a socialist plan that is driving this nation into such massive debt that in another generation we will look like Greece.

@retire05:You got another Reagan in the wings—Cruz, Perry or Walker?30 years since RR-won You’ll be long gone before the next Conservative is elected POTUS

So Adam and Eve were placed in a garden as vegetarians–makes perfect sense.Thanks to you and nan for that reminder.
Abortions are ugly—slaughter of animals equally ugly.
We should bring an end to both.

@rich wheeler:

Abortions are ugly—slaughter of animals equally ugly.
We should bring an end to both.

I’m sure you will start a campaign on your Facebook page to put an end to abortion exerting as much effort as you have for animals, right? Let me know when you get that “Stop Abortion Now” poster up.

BTW, it didn’t go unnoticed that you did not name ONE progressive policy that has ever been a success. But typical to your m.o., you simply ignore those things you don’t know how to answer. You and Gullible Greggie have a lot in common.

@rich wheeler: Thought Nan’s story about us being perfect vegetarians and then God punishing us by screwing up our digestive system forcing us to require the cosumption of animals..—-strange

That’s not at all what I said.
A perfect human doesn’t need to consume meat.
Adam and Eve ate fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains.
But God didn’t ”punish us by screwing up our digestive system forcing us to require the cosumption of animals.”
God allowed the first couple to only pass on to their offspring IMperfection.
By the time of Noah (which Gen 9 covered) our imperfection was manifested in many ways (spiritual, emotional and physical), not just our imperfect digestive tracts.
Man’s lifespan kept getting shorter until a Bible verse points out that our years only reach eighty if we are particularly strong individuals. (psalm 90:10)

@Nanny G:” A perfect human doesn’t need to consume meat”
I LIKE IT

@rich wheeler:

Movement towards a plant based diet—simple common sense.

Only a fruit cake would believe that

@rich wheeler: 15

Aren’t calves and young pigs “innocent babies”–sentient beings that feel pain like us?

Ahhhh so you’ve never studied Botany. Plants have life also, they also feel pain. How can you just pull an apple off the tree, like taking a baby out of it’s mothers arms and biting it’s head off.

How do you feel about those that kill and eat dogs?

So now you’re bringing Obama into the discussion?

@rich wheeler: 17

We must worship a different God. The slaughter of any innocent sentient being for consumption is clearly wrong

Isn’t there something in there about feeding them fishes? Wasn’t Peter the fisherman? Don’t tell me you don’t consider a fish to be a living being? But it’s okay to kill babies, just for the heck of it, right?

@rich wheeler: 36

Muscle shirts? Generally i’m wearing no shirt and casual shorts when I jog on the beach or swim in the ocean.

So funny. Nothing much more self righteous than someone who just started something new and act as if they invented it. So how long you been off red meat, Rich? Three months? Don’t blow smoke. The healthist I’ve ever been is on an Atkins diet which loads you up on red meat. In fact, no other diet has ever proven to be more effective than Atkins. Jog on the beach or swim. Yeah, that wet suit season out there lasts what, two months out of the year that the water temp gets up to 60. I guess it never rains in Southern California either, right? Since Gayfornia has been pushing gayness, it’s kinda going to hell, isn’t it?

@Redteam:
Maybe Rich is buddhist.
The God of the Bible encouraged His followers to eat lamb by making it a part of the Passover meal, among other things.

Jesus last meal was lamb.
His followers included quite a few fishermen.

@rich wheeler: 38

and as you know I oppose abortion

What the hell Rich, you can’t have it both ways, you just said that if a woman wants to kill her baby, it’s okay with you. At what point is it not okay? 8 months? 9 months? 10 months? Is there a difference? Murder is murder.

@rich wheeler:

Abortions are ugly—slaughter of animals equally ugly.
We should bring an end to both.

What? and tell a slaughter house operator he doesn’t have rights? As Retire said, you think it’s okay to limit killing animals but it’s not okay to limit killing babies. I’m not sure I agree with your thinking on that. I don’t think it’s equally the same thing at all, and as I said, if you’ve ever looked at plant life through a microscope, you’d recognize they are living organisms also. Nothing like being a hypocrit.
