Trump On Harris: She’s My Number-One Draft Pick!

Loading

Much of the media will spend today offering puff pieces on Kamala Harris and her ascension to the Democratic ticket as Joe Biden’s running mate. The Washington Post’s daily newsletter has seven stories — almost half the links in today’s blast — that practically look like bullet points on the Biden-Harris campaign web site:

That last one’s my favorite. Harris went into this cycle the co-favorite (with Biden) as the most likely woman of color to succeed with a party that steeped itself in identity-politics preening. Karen Tumulty at least acknowledges this point in noting at the start that Harris “fell short of the high expectations that greeted her electrifying entry into the 2020 race … She didn’t even make it as far as Iowa.” In fact, Harris didn’t even outlast Tulsi Gabbard, who beat Harris like a drum in two debates.

Tumulty attempts to put the best possible spin Harris’ abject failure by claiming that this brand of incompetence is just what she needs to succeed as second banana:

But the qualities that hampered her when she was running in her own right could be what make her ideal as former vice president Joe Biden’s running mate — and ultimately, as his partner in governing the country as it struggles to recover from the devastation wrought by the novel coronavirus.

Harris brings to the ticket and potentially the White House the thrill of history as the first Black and Asian woman to be put forward by a major political party as a national candidate.

Note, please: That didn’t even thrill Democrats who were positively begging to be thrilled by it. Why? Because Harris turned out to be an inept campaigner, a wild puncher with a glass jaw, and someone who came across as a phonyNote also, please: Tumulty never does get around to discussing how those “qualities” work in Biden’s favor over the next three months.

There’s nothing wrong with focusing on a running-mate pick the next news day, but … is it too much to ask for a little balance? Is there not one person in the Washington Post staff who could write a critical analysis of Harris’ failure in 2019, or her issues in posing as a progressive with her record as attorney general? Democracies die in the absence of hagiographies of those seeking power, it seems.

One doesn’t normally turn to Donald Trump for a little balance, and … well, don’t expect any today, either. However, Trump did get a softball from someone last night about Harris being “phony” in his press briefing, and Trump responded by declaring Harris his “number one draft pick”:

Q And I wanted to ask about a specific example that a lot of people thought was a phony moment. As San Francisco DA, she oversaw, according to the Mercury News, 1,900 marijuana convictions. But she was asked in an interview last year if she had smoked marijuana, and she appeared to joke and, according to some people, lie, and say that she was listening to Snoop Dogg and Tupac, while — their music hadn’t come out at the time, while she said she was smoking pot and listening to it. Why would she lie about that? Do you see that as more evidence — is her past on marijuana a liability?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, she lied. I mean, she said things that were untrue. She is a person that’s told many, many stories that weren’t true. She’s very big into raising taxes. She wants to slash funds for our military at a level that nobody has — can even believe.

She is against fracking. Fracking is — she’s against petroleum products. I mean, how do you do that and go into Pennsylvania or Ohio or Oklahoma or the great state of Texas? She is against fracking; fracking is a big deal.

She is in favor of socialized medicine, where you’re going to lose your doctors, you’re going to lose your plans. She wants to take your healthcare plans away from 180 million Americans — 180 million Americans that are very happy with their health insurance. And she wants to take that away.

So she was my number-one pick. I mean, she was — as they would say, because hopefully you’ll start college football — she was my number-one draft pick. And we’ll see how she works out.

She did very, very poorly in the primaries, as you know. She was expected to do well, and she was — she ended up at right around 2 percent, and spent a lot of money. She had a lot of things happening. And so I was a little surprised that he picked her. I’ve been watching her for a long time, and I was a little surprised.

She was extraordinarily nasty to Kavanaugh — Judge Kavanaugh, then; now Justice Kavanaugh. She was nasty to a level that was just a horrible thing. The way she was — the way she treated now-Justice Kavanaugh. And I won’t forget that soon.

So she did very poorly in the primaries, and now she’s chosen. So let’s see how that all works out.

Q Should supporters of marijuana legalization vote for you, rather than her, because she convicted so many people in the past?

THE PRESIDENT: I can’t tell you what she’s voting for. I don’t think she knows what — I think Joe knows even less than she does. But I was only surprised at the pick. A lot of people were saying, “That might be the pick.” I was more surprised than anything else, because she did so poorly. Many people did much better than her in the primary. She did very poorly in the primaries. And that’s like a poll. You know, that’s like a poll.

Trump returned to that theme today:

If there was any fear of serious media investigation of Kamala (except by Fox and OAN) Biden (or those pulling his strings) would never have dared picking Kamala or limiting him to the sorry array he had to choose from. Maybe she was picked for her gimmick trifecta: first woman, black, Asian. Her history of scumbaggery would be exclusionary in any other case.

@Deplorable Me:
she is not black, mother is jamaican and father is from india. she has hemorrhoids for brains. in college she had a mattress strapped to her back and knee pads, the same way she worked up the democrap party line-on her back or on her knees

Late yesterday the Lincoln Project republicans put out an overtly pro-Biden/Harris video. With over 890 thousand views in less than 24 hours, viewer responses are thumbs up by a ratio of over 55 to 1.

Trump has got a serious problem. It’s not surprising he’s working every possible angle to try to reduce the November turnout, and already trying to erode confidence in the legitimacy of the election results. He’ll have allies in this effort, as a lot of republican enablers are likely to go down with him.

@Greg: Well, no wonder; the Lincoln Project is run by racists.

It’s not Trump that wants to restrict voter turnout… that would be the Democrats, speading false fears to keep people at home so they can steal their votes by mail.

Trump has endorsed voting by mail in both Florida and North Carolina. Most absentee voting is already done by mail. He seems to like it where he calculates it will work to his advantage, but dislike it where it won’t.

His new Postmaster General’s procedural changes are calculated to screw up the entire mail-in ballot process. There’s really no other explanation for the timing, given that COVID-19 is on the rise and will almost certainly be a serious concern to millions of voters on Election Day. Cobbling up post office processing and delivery is the exact opposite of how the nation should be preparing.

Today was the 16th consecutive day with a U.S. COVID-19 death count exceeding one thousand. This is not going to magically go away over the next two months.

@Greg:

Today was the 16th consecutive day with a U.S. COVID-19 death count exceeding one thousand. This is not going to magically go away over the next two months.

Isn’t that what the “protests” (aka riots, looting) are for? To keep the virus spreading, to drive everyone inside, to strangle the economy and open the door for voter fraud?

@Greg:

With over 890 thousand views in less than 24 hours, viewer responses are thumbs up by a ratio of over 55 to 1.

And the polls say Hillary will win, 100% to 0%.

Not many support the Dems, and no one is excited about Harris as VP, unless they’re racist.

The Lincoln Project is funny, though. In the face of dwindling base that is defecting to the right or just walking away, the Dems only tactic is to create a hoax movement suggesting it’s the other way around?

Pathetic.

Trump on Hair:

From Reuters, August 12, 2020 – Trump hair rinsing complaints prompt U.S. to ease shower standards

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. government proposed rule changes on Wednesday that would allow shower heads to boost water pressure, after President Donald Trump repeatedly complained that bathroom fixtures do not work to his liking.

The Department of Energy plan followed comments from Trump last month a White House event on rolling back regulations. He said he believed water does not come out fast enough from fixtures.

“So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair – I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect.”

Last December, Trump said environmental regulators were looking at sinks, faucets and toilets to revise rules meant to conserve water and fuel that heats it.

“People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once,” Trump told a meeting of small business leaders at the White House.

Maybe they should consider making dietary changes?

Seriously, if you’re flushing your toilet 10 to 15 times to get results you need a plumber, not a rollback of federal regulations.

Consumer groups decried the plan, saying current rules saved consumers money by conserving water and fuel.

The proposal would effectively allow shower fixtures to include multiple shower heads that would get around the 2.5 gallon (9.4 liter) per minute standard Congress set in 1992, when Trump’s fellow Republican George H.W. Bush was president.

The Energy Department also proposed easier standards on clothes washers. The Trump administration says its regulatory rollbacks save average American households $3,100* a year. But conservationists say easing bathroom fixture standards could boost energy and water costs.

It was uncertain whether the plan would be finalized. Trump is campaigning for reelection and trails in opinion polls ahead of the vote Nov. 3. If he wins and the proposal advances it could also face court battles.

David Friedman, vice president of advocacy at the organization Consumer Reports and a former Energy Department official, said there was no need to change the rules because tests show today’s shower heads “achieve high levels of customer satisfaction,” while saving money.

* This is what is commonly referred to as hogwash.

@Greg: We bought new toilets and faucets and shower heads before those regulations were imposed.
One shower head I have has 5 options.
One of them complies with the regs.
I can’t rinse off well using it, especially hair conditioners.
But as a “rainwater” feel it is relaxing and almost ticklish.

Before escrow went thru we replaced all these with ones that complied. We brought the old (good) ones to Utah with us.

We’ve also still got a large box of new light bulbs from before all the regulations.

Vice President Joe Biden’s choice for his veep, Kamala Harris, is a well-known entity, a transactional politician who exploits the latest headlines to further her career the way a selfish opportunist would photobomb the bride’s selfie.

When Minneapolis was burning, Harris tweeted support for an organization raising bail money for Minnesota rioters and looters.

Under what circumstances is it acceptable for a senator, much less a former state attorney general, to shill for lawless thugs destroying others’ property – the police precinct for example – to get bail?

For sleeping with married San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown – an affair to which Brown admits – Harris was awarded a series of jobs, the next one better than the last – and a 7-series BMW to tool around on the winding streets of Baghdad by the Bay. He later helped her become the district attorney to launch her political career.

As a sitting senator, Harris was the first one out of the gate to sidle up to Jussie Smollett and come to his defense for his fake hate crime. Jussie is a talented entertainer, Kamala, but there’s a reason he has to read other peoples‘ words on TV in order to sound sane. Sure, of course, there were two white,” This is MAGA country!” nutters out on a freezing Chicago morning at 2:30 a.m. waiting for him to come out of a sandwich shop.

Was she even listening to his words? The politics trumped sound reason and logic.

And that’s just a small example of her transactional nature and why she’ll sell out common sense and reason if they get in the way of her getting to that microphone. Like a running back who exploits a small hole between two linebackers, Harris always moves toward the klieg lights and the politically expedient. Her transactional nature and her own very questionable history with the law as California attorney general is why she can’t be trusted with your rights. That’s because she’s chucked other peoples’ civil rights and traded them in for a lectern, a microphone, and political power.

5 Things to Know About Biden’s VP Pick, Kamala Harris

1. Harris uses the law to attack climate ‘deniers’

Over at National Review, the estimable Kevin Williamson gives an airing to two of Harris’s most notorious political and legal moves that were so corrupt they left people slack-jawed – stunned – she would use her office for so outrageous an abuse of power.

Williamson notes that as attorney general, Harris “was a leader in the junta of Democratic state attorneys general that attempted to criminalize dissent in the matter of global warming, using her office’s investigatory powers to target and harass non-profit policy groups while she and her counterpart in New York attempted to shake down Exxon on phony fraud cases.”

Harris’ efforts to shake down Exxon with New York AG Eric Schneiderman — who was turned out of office, though never prosecuted, for abusing four women — showed her willingness to criminalize political views with which Democrats differed.

The two attorneys general created a group called “AGs United for Clean Power” and used it to criminalize and prosecute people for having differing views on climate change.

2. Harris kept innocent people in prison to hide her office’s lawlessness

Harris let innocent people sit in prison rather than confess to her abject lawlessness in their cases.

As Williamson puts it, Harris fought “to uphold wrongful convictions that had been secured through official misconduct that included evidence tampering, false testimony and the suppression of crucial information by prosecutors.”

Not only did Harris fight convicts’ efforts to prove their innocence claims based on her office’s lawlessness, but after they were found innocent, Harris fought their ability to get compensation.

3. Harris targets reporter for Planned Parenthood baby body parts exposé

In what could be her most egregious overstep in 2015, Harris, a reliable friend to abortion specialists Planned Parenthood, allowed her ties to the political group color her response to an exposé showing the abortion corporation sold baby body parts to labs. Instead of calling for an investigation into Planned Parenthood for its unethical and illegal behavior, Harris met with the abortion giant to complain about the damning videos. It seems Planned Parenthood called in a political favor.

Two weeks later, the head of the group exposing the disgusting practice of parting-out dead newly-killed babies, The Center for Medical Progress’s David Daleiden, had his Orange County apartment ransacked by Harris’s investigators. According to court documents, investigators wanted to get their hands on the original recordings. They settled for all his copies (the originals were with an attorney) equalling 40 terabytes, and all of Daleiden’s recording equipment.

Planned Parenthood hired Fusion GPS – yes, THAT Fusion GPS – to trash Daleiden’s reputation and besmirch his reporting.

Daleiden is still in court over the issue. He’s suing Harris.

He said on Twitter that “Kamala Harris is the greatest threat to First Amendment civil rights our country has ever seen.”

4. Harris illegally tries to ‘out’ donor lists of conservative groups

Shortly after Lois Lerner, John Koskinen, Barack Obama, and “the Cincinnati office” slow-rolled the charitable applications to the IRS from Tea Party groups to intentionally keep them out of the 2012 election cycle, Kamala Harris was stepping up her efforts to harass those same groups on the state level. She did so by unconstitutionally requiring organizations to reveal their donors if they wanted to raise money in California.

Harris knew exactly what political havoc could be wrought by “outing” the donors. That’s because she’d seen it before.

In 2008, the donor lists to Proposition 8 in California — a proposition to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman — were made available to the public. In the words of one lawsuit, there was a cascade of “threats, harassment, and reprisals” against people of good faith who didn’t believe in gay marriage. Does anyone remember that video of the old lady getting literally slammed by political foes? People were fired, doxxed, hectored, and screamed at. Think antifa confronting a cop and you get the picture.

Harris tried this gambit on Americans for Prosperity. The Wall Street Journal reports that in a 2016 lawsuit, a federal judge ruled against Harris.

The judge is an LBJ appointee who can recall when disclosure was used as a political weapon in the Jim Crow South. “[A]lthough the Attorney General correctly points out that such abuses are not as violent or pervasive as those encountered in NAACP v. Alabama or other cases from that era,” he wrote, “this Court is not prepared to wait until an AFP opponent carries out one of the numerous death threats made against its members.

Harris averred that outing the donors would serve as a failsafe from self-dealing. When asked to produce evidence of her claim, she couldn’t.

“Today a US District Court ruled in favor of Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s lawsuit against California Attorney General Kamala Harris, ruling that her demands for the Foundation to hand over its list of members and supporters is unconstitutional,” AFP announced in a press release at the time. “We’ve repeatedly covered Harris’s unprecedented drive to demand disclosure of donor lists by nonprofits that carry on activities in California, a step likely to lead to private and public retaliation against individuals and groups revealed to have donated to unpopular or controversial causes.”

5. Harris forsook Judge Kavanaugh’s rights for her political gain

We all get it. Politics is a dirty business, but surely, a woman who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, a woman who was a former district attorney and state attorney general would show more respect for the law and the presumption of innocence than Harris did at the clown car show called the Brett Kavanaugh hearing.

She did neither.

Mollie Hemingway over at The Federalist:

One of the ringleaders of the Democratic Party’s attempt to destroy Brett Kavanaugh’s life in 2018 has been named Joe Biden’s running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

[ … ]

Harris, a former prosecutor, led a line of questioning that was an obvious attempt to put Kavanaugh in a perjury trap, albeit a trap he was able to avoid. Harris began by asking Kavanaugh if he had ever discussed Robert Mueller, the special counsel then investigating the Trump presidential campaign, with anyone.

Harris looked foolish after the colloquy and, to make up for her silliness, Harris tried to impeach Kavanaugh a year later.

Harris has thrown over people’s basic civil rights for political expediency for years now. She obviously doesn’t have a healthy respect for the rule of law – unless it happens to cross streams with her politics. We require more from our politicians, especially one who wishes to spend a lot of time in the White House as Joe Biden’s #2.

Back when she was running for California attorney general, some opined that Harris was the second coming of Barack Obama. Judging by her willingness to sell out individual freedoms and civil rights, they might be right.

@Greg: Low-flow shower heads cause people to shower longer to get clean. Those weak-flushing toilets may flush the dump out of the toilet, but he gets stalled in the sewer pipes leading to the main sewer. It has nothing to do with diet; it has to do with good intentions that went bad. If you know an intelligent person, tell them this and maybe they can explain it to you.

It has take a strong surge to flush away the stain of failure and incompetence Obama and Biden left behind. Now Biden and Harris want to bring that incompetence and failure back.

Comma-comma-chameleon believes Tara Reade who was sexually assaulted by dementia joe

The harris-biden ticket will reinstate the AFFH Act designed to infuse section 8 housing into suburban neighborhoods. They believe by relocating undesirable inhabitants into suburbs will assist in the further destabilization of the nuclear family in addition to elevating the level of crime.

Love how the media attacked Tucker Carlson for mispronouncing Kamala’s name… and Biden pronounces it the exact same way.

Well, they definitely wouldn’t like how I pronounce it…

We neeeed the high water flushers what else to do with the thousands of rolls horded by idiots causing temporary stocking issues. The tissue mills never shut down, yes there is a maximum speed at which they can operate but it always supplied the USA with plenty of paper toweling, butt and nose wipe before.
Any one who has gone RV ing knows how to conserve water when they get to sites that dont have full service hook up,. No one wants to pull out and after you have set up just to run through the dump station then to the potable water. I hate pumping quarters into the showers that never get above 65 degree water for showering in a trickle, knowing there is a line at the door. (hence our own camp)
I ordered a replacement shower head that totally shuts off holding the set temp. A thing of beauty when you have a 6 gallon water heater.

@Nan G, #9:

There are efficient, well-designed products and there are poorly engineered products. Both are on the market. While the cheapest are often junk, the more costly aren’t necessarily the best. These days it pays to do your product research before buying. There are so many scammers out there that you’ve even got to become a critical judge of product reviews. Fake online product reviews have become a common part of marketing.

Bathroom tub and sink faucets are a good example. Most hardware and big-box home product stores offer a variety of cheap, chrome plated cast zinc products that quickly corrode. Some mid-range offerings are pretty much the same thing, but better disguised.

I don’t think we’ve gone too far off topic here. The same sort of deceptive packaging and marketing is used to sell policies and politicians to the voting public.

The harris-biden campaign is based on lies.

Kamala Harris Lies Repeatedly in First Speech as Biden’s Running Mate

@Greg: So what product is better a toilet that worked for 50 years you could fix yourself with a paper clip or simply replace the flapper or the ones today that need new guts every 3 to 5 years? If you are lucky you can replace these plastic POS yourself if not call a plumber and pay the price of a new toilet. Want to cut down on water use in the old one put one or 2 bricks in the tank. Look for the words cast iron on the faucet packaging.
Have water spots on your chrome or nickle only use Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser Liquid is safe and wont damage the plating. If its dull use chrome polish.
I Always buy white both bathroom fixtures and appliances, easy to match if one does need replacing.
Comet and Ajax has ruined many a clawfoot tub and porcelain sink.
Dont be like a Democrat buy the most expensive option cause your pal owns the shop and its going on a credit card then dont bother to maintain it properly.
