The U.S. Justice Department investigation into New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s role in “Bridgegate” has thus far uncovered no information he either knew in advance or directed the closure of traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge, federal officials tell NBC 4 New York.
The September 2013 closures — where several entrance lanes to the George Washington Bridge in Ft. Lee were shut down causing a traffic nightmare for commuters — has been the subject of several federal and state investigations.
Federal officials caution that the investigation begun nine months ago is ongoing and that no final determination has been made, but say that after nine months authorities have uncovered no information Christie either knew in advance or ordered the closure of traffic lanes.
According to one former federal prosecutor, who had no involvement in any of the probes into the bridge closure, investigations of this kind will often turn up a solid connection early in the inquiry.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Monday said that his office is cooperating with a subpoena from federal authorities investigating whether any laws were broken when lanes near a New Jersey bridge were apparently closed for political retribution. Brian Thompson reports.
“My experience with federal law enforcement is that once you reach critical mass if you don’t have it within nine months or so you’re not likely to ever get it,” former federal prosecutor Robert W. Ray said.
No doubt, the media will cover this extensively.
It doesn’t matter at all. The left should continue to scream Bridgegate just as the right continue with their fake Benghazi scandal, just as they did with their death panels, birth certificate, and the long long list of incredibly stupid crap. It’s unfortunately the only way to maintain a semi-even playing field.
What happened, RJW? Did you get booted so you had to come back with slight changes to your moniker?
And please, tell us how many Americans died due to BridgeGate?
@Ronald+J.+Ward: I do not recall how many people died on the bridge. I think there were people who died in Fast and Furious, Benghazi, in the VA scandal. How many laws were broken in the IRS scandal. How many lies were told to pass Obama care? The attorney general will not even investigate these issues.
Oh, well, there’s a shocker; no doubt, the left will continue to base their entire existence on lies, such as Bush lied about WMD’s and all of Obama’s failures are someone else’s fault, etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.
By the way, you should probably begin to rely on different sources of information. Here are some late-breaking (years ago) developments:
Benghazi: the administration created a fake video story to divert attention from the falsehoods Obama had been basing his foreign policy cred on, the fact that State Department ignored warning and pleas for help and, most recently, that Team Hillary was destroying documents that confirm the facts (and make them look bad) rather than turn them over to investigators.
Death panels: actually, they do exist. If you doubt it, ask Sarah Murnaghan.
Birth Certificate: Why don’t you ask Hillary why she brought it up in the first place and made it a campaign issue? Perhaps she is (as Obama accused her and Bill) racist.
To level the playing field, the corrupt media would have to stop being a pep squad for Obama, Hillary and all of the left. The last thing you liberals, standing on the shrinking thin ice of liberal agenda implosion, is a level playing field, which of course is why you promote continuing to blame Christie for the bridge closure.
@retire05: I have no idea what happened. @Ronald+J.+Ward: , @Randy: Here we have 2 sockpuppets regurgitating a nonsensical talking point. The profound stupidity of your argument pertaining to the number of deaths in Bridgegate only demonstrates how desperate you are to kowtow to your leaders and hopefully get in a jab at Obama as well as Hillary Clinton. It’s as if saying that the very argument (regardless if Christie did it or didn’t-but of course he didn’t so there!) of such a hideous deed to intentionally wreck havoc on so many people’s livelihood and schedules, to cost so many people and businesses untold money and losses, and endanger the flow of emergency responses and the economic process is all rendered void because we got lucky and no associated deaths have been directly linked to it- this time! The premise of your argument is inconsistent with it’s rational conclusion.
You then exploit unfortunate events such as Benghazi (which we saw 14 similar attacks during the Bush years which went pretty much unmentioned while committee after committee and hearing after hearing has exonerated the Obama Admin) which you’ve elevated strictly for political gain as a comparison because people did die.
A Republican accused of doing something incredibly wrong, well, obviously didn’t do it. And if he did, that’s okay (while doubling down at the same time that he didn’t do it) because the outcome could have been worse. Now if a Democrat can be associated to an unfortunate incident, they are to be blamed regardless of the facts because, well he or she is a Democrat.
And that’s what prejudiced Democrat and Obama hating hack sites like this do. You cover your ears and sing “la la la” to reality while genuflecting to any fallacy and rhetoric that promotes your anti-Obama agenda. You are argumentative frauds and you validate my #2 comment why Dems need to keep hammering Bridgegate, regardless of validity, simply to maintain a level playing field. It’s unfortunate that the abject dishonesty and festered hatred of the right forces such a “fight fire with fire” environment.
@Ronald J. Ward:
In your attempt at spin, you are reversing actuality. When elected Republicans do something wrong, most (99%?) Republicans/conservatives turn their backs on that person. Many times that erring Republican is asked to resign. Unlike Democrats who circle the wagons and even take to the steps of the Congress to support the wrong-doer.
Really? You are really trying to equate the deaths of Brian Terry and hundreds of Mexican citizens, the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Ty Woods as “unfortunate incidents” to traffic jams? You are actually trying to equate the persecution conservative/Jewish groups suffered under the IRS to traffic jams?
You are one sick person, RJW.
Look at how Tom DeLay was cleared yet forced to resign.
He was one of a long list of Republicans slimed but later found to have committed no crime.
BUT this made a few headlines this week:
State Sen. Rod Wright resigns over perjury conviction
After he was sentenced last week to three months in jail State Sen. Rod Wright submitted his resignation.
During the sentencing in Los Angeles last week, Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy said Wright is no longer eligible to hold public office.
Wright’s was the first of three unrelated cases against Democratic lawmakers……
Sen. Ron Calderon of Montebello has been accused of accepting about $100,000 in exchange for promoting legislation to expand Hollywood tax credits and protect the interest of a hospital that benefited from a provision of the workers’ compensation law.
Sen. Leland Yee of San Francisco was accused of accepting money and campaign donations in exchange for providing official favors and helping broker an arms deal.
@Ronald J. Ward:
Gosh, Ronald, how about the Democrats, so opposed to allowing any logical changes to the worst steaming pile of legislation in the history of mankind and shutting the government down over the disagreement (and then, later, for political purposes, Obama doing just that illegally and unilaterally) and then, to make sure the government shut down did not go unnoticed, intentionally shut down and barricade off an open air, walk-through memorial for WWII veterans, many of whom, near the ends of their lives, had traveled across the country to see?
Though Christie has now (though you loathe to admit it or face the fact) been cleared of any involvement (just as he said) in closing the bridge (and don’t think leftists have not looked!!), you apparently think such a selfish action to cause pain and suffering to innocent citizens for a personal, political matter would be wrong. Yet, you do not denounce what Obama did concerning closing the WWII memorial or numerous other parks which are simply open. I don’t know, Ronald, but that sounds just a “smidgen” hypocritical. Not to mention how you openly support using bold-face lies to attack political opponents. That “wrecks” (I think you meant “wreaks”) havoc on civilized discourse.
“And that’s what prejudiced Democrat and Obama hating hack sites like this do.” Hey, don’t get all worked up just because you voted for such a monumental loser. You were warned.
Why was the “thus far” part left out of the title of this thread?
Meanwhile, I fully expect that Obama hugging RINO Christie will get a pass on this regardless of whether or not he truly had a hand in this bridge issue (that is, unless he decides to run for a higher office).
Fair question, FMB42.
We also have on-going investigations by DOJ against many Admirals and Generals Obama pushed out of their jobs in the top of our military.
(Ironic that one of those, whose investigation has been longer than Christie’s but STILL never turned up a thing, is the very man, Gen Allen, who Obama tapped to lead forces in this ISIS crisis.)
We also have on-going investigations about Obama’s Fast and Furious gun running to Mexican cartels – mostly because Obama keeps dragging his feet about transparency.
On-going investigating is a tactic to keep people hanging.
Christie, much to my surprise, was a front-runner for the GOP nominee for president just as this ”investigation,” got going.
He’s not now.
And wasn’t that the point?
@Bill: Democrats were not the ones that shut the government down and you are an incredible dumbass to make such an asinine statement. That alone renders the rest of your diatribe ineligible for consideration.
There is much more proof that a top YesScotland official (Member of the Scottish Parliament Humza Yousaf) is tied (funding and helping staff and military planning) to known terrorists organization, Hamas than there is proof Gov. Christie was EVER involved in any way in closing that bridge.
But, hey, Yousaf was against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan so America’s Left loves him anyway.
And as goes the Left, so goes the media coverage.
@Ronald+J.+Ward: Well, Ronald, yes, actually they were. They would not negotiate or compromise to keep the government open so they are the culprit. No real surprise that someone that would vote for Obama… TWICE and continue to support his failed policies would be far too stupid to realize that it was as much the responsibility of the obstructive Democrats (remember: Obama later unilaterally did just what the Republicans wanted to do, legally, regarding the Obamacare mandates, he just did it illegally and for purely selfish, political reasons). The Democrats caused the shut down. And, to add insult to injury, for absolutely NO reason.
@Bill: @Bill: Perhaps you didn’t catch it as I’m sure Sean Hannity, Mike Savage, and the likes of such chose not to disclose it but that shutdown thingy pretty much blew up in the GOP faces. Yeah, they hoped to pin their hostage taking tactics on Dems but they somewhat got their asses handed to them, so much to the point that they had to throw in the towel. The electorate didn’t buy it. For you to continue trying to sell it only amplifies your abject denial or profound ignorance, disqualifying any argument you make as anyone of reasonable intellect would roll their eyes at you as no more than a howl-at-the-moon fool (not that this particular failure of an argument was needed for one to come to that conclusion).
@Ronald J. Ward: You will have to pardon me, Ronald, but I do not allow you to hide behind the excuse of abject stupidity. While you believe that whomever the corrupt, liberal MSM decides is at fault for any particular liberal failure, that will not actually make it so. Already you have confessed that using the media to make a lie a political weapon is acceptable to you, so how do you expect to utilize your well-worn primary tactic of the left here ever again? Hereafter you are going to be required to use facts and truth.
Obamacare is a bad law and everyone agreed that the imposition of the mandates needed to be waived (since so many had already been waived for Obama supporters and for the need to avoid political harm). So, why not extend those waivers to the public as well? Even better, scrap the damned piece of crap altogether.
The Democrats could have compromised, but of course, with the utility of the corrupt media, they don’t need to compromise and negotiate. They can shut the government down and the media will dutifully blame it all on the Republicans; that are plenty of useful idiots to readily believe that scenario.
Then, to make sure the public feels all the pain they (the Democrats) can heap upon them and have the media blame upon them, they closed parks and facilities that did not need closure; that even COST MONEY to close. But, they got caught. The punitive pain and suffering the Democrats meted out onto the public, to have blamed on the Republicans, got laid, rightly, on the Democrats.
You should dedicate yourself and make it a personal quest to make yourself more informed and intelligent. Then it would not take people like myself to educate you.
Again, simply successfully blaming someone, with the criminal help of a corrupt media does not make it an historical fact. Obama and the rest of his administration have proven themselves remorseless and amoral liars. If you refuse to see and identify this, that makes you one as well.
Whether Christie was behind BridgeGate or knew absolutely nothing about it is not really relevant to me. What is more important is that a percentage of the Republican party seems to view Christie as a viable Presidential candidate and that is what I find the most disturbing. Christie is another Romney in that he is an east coast Republican which means he is a right leaning Democrat, nothing more….As a conservative they can present another east coast liberal for President if they like but this time I will not hold my nose and vote for them. I’ll stay home, hopefully with a lot of other conservatives, and watch Hillary take the White House…
Change is going to be painful and maybe this nation just hasn’t suffered enough under Obama…
@Bill: I’m not sure how The Affordable Care Act (I’m not sure if you can handle the truth here but there actually is no such bill or law or no such thing as “Obamacare”) came into this conversation but obviously you haven’t caught on that it has gained popularity and Republicans are now running from their repeal mantras. In short, ACA has proven to be a rather smashing success and it’s here to stay.
@Bobachek: You present an interesting dilemma for Republicans or conservatives or teabaggers or whatever in the hell they are today. You will never ever manage to get someone in the WH that only appeals to a certain faction and can’t reach out in some ways to a wider audience. I’m not sure who your ideal candidate might be but I have a feeling that your choice will pretty much validate my argument.
This one statement shows you are either a) the most clueless fool on this forum or b) a blatant liar.
From an August 1, 2014 article:
“A majority of Americans disapprove of Obamacare, the highest share since President Barack Obama’s health care reforms became law more than four years ago, according to survey findings released Friday.
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation’s health care tracking poll for July reveals that 53 percent of people view the Affordable Care Act unfavorably, a jump of 8 percentage points since June. July’s results mark the fifth time since April 2010, and the first time since January, that at least half of Americans are not supportive of the health care reform law.
The poll found that the share of people who view Obamacare favorably fell slightly, to 37 percent, marking the lowest rating the law has received since its passage. Views about the ACA remain sharply partisan.”
And before you start howling how I am probably providing an article from some right wing blogger I need to inform you of two things; the Kaiser Family Foundation is decidedly left wing and the article came from the Huffington Post, a radical left wing site.
So that “smashing success” you are claiming is falling more and more out of favor with the American public.
The problem with the Democrats is that they seemed to be locked in to the favor du jour. For years, Democrats have pandered and prostituted themselves to garner the black vote. Now they have a new mistress; illegal immigrants. But some blacks are beginning to realize that they have been sold down the river for the Hispanic vote, and that massive amnesty will only hurt black Americans. As the black unemployment rate continues to climb, as blacks continue to see their middle-class incomes diminish, sooner or later they are going to realize that Democrats do NOT act in their best interest, and then what?
@Ronald+J.+Ward: How quickly you forget the 2010 election and what it was about. Let me help you, it was about 0-blamacare or the ACA or whatever you want to call it!! Just like now when 0-blama and his puppets parse words about war or boots on the ground etc,!! In 2010 America rejected 0-blamacare because they believed it would cost more, not really provide good quality healthcare, and NOT reach the uninsured!! Now in 2014 America realizes they where correct in 2010 and call us Tea Baggers or Tea Party Patriots it I don’t give a rat what you say!! Let’s see who has control of the Senate and the House after this election cycle!!
The way Obamacare (there is nothing “affordable” about this infringement, neither to those promised they could keep their insurance, to the nation or to the government) is by way of your hypocrisy about how you are more than happy to perpetuate the lie about Christie causing pain and suffering by closing a bridge, as if that pain and suffering mattered to you or any other liberal (other than as a political tool) but are absolutely pleased with your party causing the shut down of the government and, when they feared there would not be ENOUGH pain and suffering (what if the government closed and no one noticed?) began unnecessarily closing public lands and parks simply to make the point that we cannot survive without government giving us what we actually already have. That’s how, He Who Goes To Great Lengths NOT To See The Truth.
Yes, Obamacare has evolved into such a glorious winner that every Democrat running in a real contest for reelection cannot put enough distance between them and Abysmalcare so that it does not ruin their changes. It is going to be even more popular as the government goes back to those millions that signed up but do not deserve subsidies or as more and more try to get health care and are told there are no doctors or none that will accept what the government is now wiling to pay. Even MORE popular once all the mandates and penalties, that Obama has been dodging so as not to cause too much harm to electoral opportunity (see above) go fully into effect. The point to THAT is that, in the absence of a Reagan or Gingrich to take over the White House, a Christie or a Romney will still be capable of beginning the process of healing the nation’s economy, foreign policy or race relations that Obama and the liberals have so damaged in order to divert attention from failures or malevolence. As we are seeing, not only has the country suffered enough under Obama, the entire world has suffered enough by his weakness. We do not need more suffering, care of Hillary, to get the point.
You will have to come to realize, Ronald, that simply telling yourself something is true does not make it true and it definitely does not make anyone you are telling that to think you are intelligent. In fact, quite the opposite. QUITE the opposite.
@Ronald+J.+Ward: If the ACA or 0-blamacare is so great then why are Democrats who are trying to remain in office running away from your black Messiah and 0-blamacare!!
So funny. Christie was able to stop traffic with no input from himself. Try as he might, Obama can’t stop the traffic over the border.
Whoops, forgot to put a + in there, Red+Team
No official explanation for all the sudden additions of that + sign.
Must be a glitch.
