Kremlin-Connected ‘Troll Farm’ Organized Facebook Event To Protest Donald Trump

Bre Payton:

Days after Donald Trump won the presidential election in November 2016, thousands flocked to the streets of New York City to demonstrate against the president elect in a protest organized by a Kremlin-connected Facebook page called BlackMattersUS, The Hill reports. Between 5,000 and 10,000 people attended the protest organized by the Facebook page, which, according to an archived screen grab, had more than 99,000 likes.

“Join us in the streets! Stop Trump and his bigoted agenda!” the Facebook event page reads for the protest, which was called “Trump is NOT my President. March against Trump.” “Divided is the reason we just fell,” it reads. “We must unite despite our differences to stop HATE from ruling the land.”

BlackMattersUS hosted another event page to protest the Electoral College, called “One Person One Vote One March” to question the legitimacy of America’s democratic system.

As it turns out, BlackMattersUS is linked to Internet Research Agency (IRA), a so-called “troll farm” with connections to the Russian Kremlin that’s purchased 3,000 political ads and has been identified as operating 470 now-deleted Facebook accounts to push agitprop and sow discord among Americans, The Hill reported. IRA also used an Instagram account to push anti-Dakota-pipeline propaganda under the username @Native_Americans_United, The Daily Caller reported.

Facebook officials estimate content disseminated by IRA-run pages has reached 126 million Americans via the social network over the past couple of years. Top executives from tech companies including Facebook, Twitter, and Google are currently testifying before Congress about how foreign entities use their platforms to spread misinformation and propaganda.

Oooo…. I don’t think Greg is going to like this.

Kremlin placed ads on both sides to sow division, that didnt affect the election.
Coming from a leftist mindset the college kids being brainwashed by leftists were great targets, Bernie might be President right now if it were not for the DNC putting their thumbs on the scales.
No the Kremln didnt care who won the fear the US having a vision or common goal, give that to Americans and there is no stopping us.

@Bill… Deplorable Me, #1:

You really aren’t getting this yet. The Russians weren’t pro-Trump because they necessarily like Trump. They were pro-Trump because they calculated they could get the most overall use out of him. Their intention is to further their own objectives and to weaken their geopolitical adversaries. One tactic used to weaken their adversaries is to promote and strengthen internal divisions. For that, Trump is the perfect tool. It’s part of his own methodology.

@Greg: YOU don’t get it. They weren’t pro-Trump. They were pro-Hillary because they knew they could buy her off and since they had ALREADY bought her off in the Uranium One deal, had some good dirt on HER to force her to do their bidding. Trump is pro-America and, by definition, anti-Russia. Hillary is pro-Hillary, pro-money and pro-influence peddling. She is also incompetent. The Russians could make good use of her, just as they did Obama.

Now, now, now. We can’t be having that kind of thinking. Greg has posted a WaPo story which, of course in true leftist media fashion, only features anti-Hillary posts, none of which, I can say, I have seen before (in addition to one obnoxious ad after another). It is still beyond comprehension why Obama stood by and allowed this to happen, except that he KNEW Hillary had an easy win ahead of her and didn’t want to cloud the issue by introducing Russian interference. Politics ahead of national security… again.

It occurs to me we have only Facebook’s word that these posts even existed before now.
