Obama on August 29th:

We are not taking military action to solve the Ukrainian problem… It is not in the cards for us to see a military confrontation between Russia and the United States in this region. Keep in mind, however, that I’m about to go to a NATO conference. Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but a number of those states that are close by are. And we take our Article Five commitments to defend each other very seriously.

Steyn on August 29th:

If you were the Estonian government, would you actually be reassured by that? And if you were Putin, if you were Putin sitting in the Kremlin, and you just wanted to mess with Obama, wouldn’t you be slightly ever-so-tempted just to invade Estonia, just to see whether Obama follows through on that Article Five thing?

Putin on September 5th:

On Friday morning, less than 48 hours after President Obama delivered a speech in Estonia warning that Russian aggression against Estonia could trigger war with the US and NATO, Russian security forces have seized an officer with Estonia’s state security bureau at gunpoint and taken him into Russia.

From Benghazi to the Baltic, the world has the measure of Obama. The only people who don’t are America’s besotted, parochial elite and the deluded electorate who made this man “leader of the free world”.

Whether this Estonian was a spy (as Russia claims) on not is irrelevant.
Putin just skipped over another one of obama’s imaginary Red Lines.

Putin is facing the end of a Russian-speaking country within the next few years.
He is annexing Russian-speaking people as fast as he can get away with it.
And Obama is letting him.

“President Obama was nowhere to be found during the beginning of a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine commission in Wales on Thursday.

Obama was “noticeably absent” from the start of the meeting, according to a White House pool report, although U.S. Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute was in attendance.

Obama was late to the Ukraine meeting because of other meetings on Afghanistan and a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan, according to a White House official.”

So Obama’s interest in the Russian problem in Ukraine is so deep that he couldn’t even be bothered to attend on time the meeting designed to specifically deal with the Ukraine? Instead, he meet with his Muslim superior to discuss what?

Of course, Obama seems to think that being late keeps him “fashionable.”

Canadian navy ship bussed by 3 Russian jets

A Canadian navy frigate taking part in a NATO exercise in the Black Sea was buzzed by three Russian military jets off the southern coast of Ukraine.

Defense Minister Rob Nicholson said Monday it was “unnecessarily provocative.” He said while the incident Sunday did not pose a threat, it risks escalating tensions in the region even further at a time when a fragile ceasefire is just taking hold.

Two Russian SU 24 Fencer fighter jets and a surveillance plane buzzed the frigate.

Nicholson said Canada and its allies are taking part in reassurance measures as a “direct result of the Putin regime’s military aggression and invasion of Ukraine.”

Russian Strategic Bombers Near Canada Practice Cruise Missile Strikes on US

Two Russian strategic bombers conducted practice cruise missile attacks on the United States during a training mission last week that defense officials say appeared timed to the NATO summit in Wales.

The Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers were tracked flying a route across the northern Atlantic near Iceland, Greenland, and Canada’s northeast.

Analysis of the flight indicated the aircraft were conducting practice runs to a pre-determined “launch box”—an optimum point for firing nuclear-armed cruise missiles at U.S. targets, said defense officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Disclosure of the nuclear bombing practice comes as a Russian general last week called for Moscow to change its doctrine to include preemptive nuclear strikes on the United States and NATO.

This is serious sh*t folks. Obama is such a joke on the international scene, that Russia feels free to make such threats (and unlike Reagan they are not “joking”).
