No, We’re not Hypocrites on the National Debt

A few weeks ago some random Lefty Troll dropped a drive by comment on an old link asking, Tell me, Brother Bob, do you support all the Republican deficit spending that Trump has signed-off on ? I don’t see anyone on the right saying “boo” about it. It’s a fair question, or it would be if if the guy was interested in conversation. Whenever a Lefty drops a comment on an old link it’s just to try to sucker us Normals into wasting time responding to them (but thank you for replying, Kitt). But it is still a valid question.

Back in my tour guide days one of my groups walked by The National Mall while a massive Tea Party rally was happening. I talked about the original Tea Party in 1773, how the current movement started , and some of the criticism toward it (I took pride in the fact that the foreigners were rarely able to guess my politics, but they always knew I was proud to be an American), and one of the criticisms was that none of these protests came out during the Dubya presidency. I agreed that it was a fair point, and also pointed out that most of these critics were rather vocal anti war protesters for years who magically vanished in January 2009, despite America’s continued involvements in overseas wars. I concluded my talk by saying that if there’s one thing that we love to do in the US is to elect officials and then take to the streets telling them how much we dislike them, and there’s nothing more American than that!

Which brings us to today and the amounts that the Federal Debt has increased since Presient Trump came into office in 2016. In rough numbers, under Obama the debt roughtly doubled fro $10 to $20 Trillion. President Trump is already on pace to surpas Barry O, with an increase of $6T so far. I could go into circumstances around both numbers, pull out some of my old spreadsheets, explain who controls the Federal Budget, but that’s not the purpose of this post. As I wrote eight years ago, If You Want to Save Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, Stop Trying to Save Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.  The point of the post is that nobody on The Left is capable of having an adult conversation on the topic, nor will they until we start feeling pain from it. But that’s not the point here, either.

The question is why we haven’t been raising the alarms over debt as we did a few years ago. The simple answer is that we had a referendum in the 2012 presidential election and were told to pound sand. It doesn’t mean we stopped caring, it’s just that as important as this issue is, it’s not the highest priority. We have one of our two major political parties declaring that the US is a horrible country and must be destroyed. The Democrats are backing destroying our cities, harassing people who don’t fall in line with their views, bankrupting our country with a Green New Deal, crippling our energy industry, and literally destroying some of our most basic elements to our government’s balance of power such as the Senate, the Electoral College, and the Supreme Court. For that matter, indoctrinating our kids in the schools isn’t enough, now they literally feel entitled to kidnap, drug and mutilate our children.

To put this in personal terms, this is like working on getting your household budget in order while there are thugs trying to break into your house to rob you and hurt your family. It doesn’t make having your home’s finances in order any less important; it just isn’t as urgent as being directly attacked.Make no mistake, we still care, but for the moment there are bigger battles to fight.

And of course, if the day ever comes that any Lefties are ready to have a serious discussion on the topic we’ll be here.

@Greg:

Which judge was installed based on their views concerning a specific set of republican concerns?

Was either sotomoyer or kagan selected based on their far left radical views?
