Colin Powell took a swan dive into ignominy when he admitted that he hires illegal aliens to work on his house:
WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says illegal immigrants do essential work in the U.S. and he has firsthand knowledge of that — because they fix his house.
Powell, a moderate Republican, urged his party Sunday to support immigration generally because it is “what’s keeping this country’s lifeblood moving forward.”
This actually qualifies Powell to be a Democrat along the lines of Dianne Feinstein. A hypocrite.
In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he said a path to legal status should be offered to illegal immigrants because they “are doing things we need done in this country.”
Like taking American jobs.
In lamenting the party’s rightward drift Sunday, he said Republicans must not become anti-immigration and spoke in support of legislation that would give certain children of illegal immigrants a way to become citizens if they pursue a college education or military service.
Ah, there it is again. The conflation of legal immigration and illegal immigration. As though they were one issue.
And he said the tea party may not become an enduring force unless it moves beyond slogans and promotes an agenda that people “can see, touch and actually believe in.” It’s not enough, he said, to call for goals that most Americans support, such as controlled federal spending and adherence to the Constitution.
Golly, controlled federal spending and adherence to the Constitution is pretty darned good. And it is a departure from what we have now.
The former secretary of state said he still sees Obama as a transformational figure, if one who has lost some of his ability to connect with people.
I have to agree with the General here. Obama did say he meant to fundamentally transform the United States, a democratic republic, into something else.
This is all kind of irritating in light of Linda Chavez being disqualified in 2001 from serving as Labor Secretary under George W. Bush because she provided haven for an illegal alien.
Last weekend in Rutland Vermont I saw a young man carrying a sign that said “I am desperate. Will do anything for cash.”
I bet he’d like to fix Powell’s house. Even for what Powell was paying those illegals.
Extra credit question: Does Powell pay them minimum wage?

In addition to clinical practice he has done extensive research and has published widely with over 70 original articles and abstracts in the peer-reviewed literature. DrJohn is well known in his field and has lectured on every continent except for Antarctica. He has been married to the same wonderful lady for over 30 years and has three kids- two sons, both of whom are attorneys and one daughter on her way into the field of education.
DrJohn was brought up with the concept that one can do well if one is prepared to work hard but nothing in life is guaranteed.

General Powell – I used to admire you greatly. Now? Not so much! There are lots of unemployed American citizens who need the money you are paying to LAWBREAKERS and that is an immoral act you are committing – not to mention illegal. Knock it off forthwith Sir!

Powell backtracked:
“I don’t hire illegal immigrants,” Powell said in a statement Monday. “On ‘Meet the Press’ yesterday, I referred to illegal immigrants working around my house. I was referring to the many service contractors who work in my neighborhood, using mostly immigrant workers, who do good work. Some may well be ‘illegal.’
Oh.
Kind of like when I go to a home improvement store and see all those men who can’t speak any English trying to get every customer to hire him.
We found out when we tried to limit our roofers to only legal workers that CA laws make is almost impossible for an employer to ask for that information from his workforce!

Powell is the definition of the Peter Principle. He was incompetent as Chief of Staff, and Sec of State. He then bit the hand that fed him by supporting Obama in 2008. He is a one world govt guy with little regard for the Republic. A prime example of affirmitave action at its worst.
Is Colin Powell saying that illegals are just doing the jobs young black men won’t do? Would that be classified as double racist statement.
I have a nephew in Massachusetts supporting a wife and a couple of kids as a carpenter. I’m sure he would be delighted to fix Powell’s house.

I love the way that the word “ILLEGAL” always gets left out of the equation. What’s wrong with an”anti-ILLEGAL-immigration” position, Colin?
Here’s one major root of the problem:
The rest have mostly gone to towns inside Mexico, less involved in the drug violence.
2,000 people have been murdered in that one town alone, just so far this year!
Even the press is saying, ”Adios!”
Who can blame decent people wanting to protect their own families by getting out of that place?
And sure, a lot of them came here.
Shouldn’t we have an amnesty or other program for people escaping such a battleground?

Colin Powell, perhaps more responsible than anyone else on the planet for the second gulf war and all of the people Saddam butchered in between. The Brits wanted to finish the job, the Saudis were terrified of not finishing the job. But good ole’ Colin convinced Bush 41 that the “Mission was Accomplished” and it was “un-American” to finish off the Saddam regime without UN authorization as he showed him photos of the “highway of death.” Then he signed on to letting the dictator use his helos to put down the rebellion we encouraged.
As soon as I read that account I told the wife our son would have to finish this s__t. Sure enough he spent 2007 in Iraq getting shot at (and is getting ready for Afghanistan in the summer). And in my humble opinion, one big reason is this puke who put skin color above the good of the country in supporting Obama.
