Vice President Joe Biden: “There’s a lot of people in Florida that have good reason to be upset because they’ve lost jobs, even though 50 some percent of the American people think the economy tanked because of the last administration, that’s not relevant. What’s relevant is, we’re in charge. And right now, we are the ones in charge, and it’s gotten better but it hasn’t gotten good enough. And in states like Florida it’s even been more stagnant because of the real estate market. And so I don’t blame them for being mad. We’re in charge, so they’re angry.”
Joe Biden: “We are in charge. We have turned it [the economy] around.”
Joe Biden, answering a question to a class of 5th graders: “Because things got really bad before we came into office and an awful lot of companies said `there’s no more jobs for you here.'”
WH press secretary Jay Carney: “The White House doesn’t create jobs.”
Obama: “My singular focus is the American people. Getting the unemployed back on the job.”
California Gov. Jerry Brown: “I would say that the Republicans are gearing up to destroy the president, that the president will have to respond in a very powerful way, and the result for the country could be calamitous.”

President Obama looks past debt debate to job creation
President Barack Obama on Tuesday called a compromise to raise the debt ceiling and launch the U.S. government on a path toward deficit reduction “just the first step” toward strengthening the country’s economy and creating jobs.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) statement: “The current, so-called `debt crisis’ has been completely manufactured by House Republicans attempting to advance an extremist agenda. This should be a simple vote to allow the US Treasury to fund all of the programs and obligations of the entire federal government that are already in the law.”
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi statement: “It is clear we must enter an era of austerity; to reduce the deficit through shared sacrifice.”
Democrats are pulling out all the rhetorical stops in attacking Republicans regarding the debt ceiling debate:

Any faction in America that would put a gun to the head of 310 million people and say ‘If you don’t do it our way, we will blow your dreams away, we will blow a hole in the American economy’, that is un-American. That is not how we do business, and we refuse to bow down to those tactics.”
President Obama on a Balanced Budget Amendment: “We don’t need a constitutional amendment to do that. What we need to do is do our jobs.”
Senate Leader Harry Reid: “I think this piece of legislation [Cap, Cut and Balance] is about as weak and senseless as anything that has ever come on this Senate floor, and I’m not going to waste the Senate’s time day after day on this piece of legislation which I think is anathema to what our country is all about. I feel confident that this legislation will be disposed of one way or the other. The American people should understand that this is a bad piece of legislation, perhaps some of the worst legislation in the history of this country.” In case you don’t get this, he is telling all of the Democrat Senators to shelve Cut, Cap and Balance without giving it a hearing.
