James Hansen (NASA) Admits Global Temperature Standstill Is Real

Dr. Benny Peiser @ Climate Change Dispatch:

The GWPF has been right all along. In a new report Hansen, Sato and Ruedy (2013) acknowledge the existence of a standstill in global temperature lasting a decade. This is a welcome contribution to the study of global temperature. When others reached the same conclusion they have been ridiculed; so this admission should provide some pause for reflection by those who have attacked the very idea of a recent temperature standstill, often without understanding the data, focusing on who was making the argument and their alleged non-scientific motives. The bottom line is that the recent global temperature standstill is a real event. David Whitehouse, The Global Warming Policy Foundation, 17 January 2013

The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade, which we interpret as a combination of natural variability and a slow down in the growth rate of net climate forcing.  –James Hansen et al., 15 January 2013

The two major US temperature databases have released their consolidated results for 2012, and as had been expected, global warming has failed to occur for approximately the fourteenth year running. One of the US agencies downgraded 2012 to tenth-hottest ever: it had been on track to rank as 9th hottest. The tenth-hottest result comes from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), one of the three main global databases used to assess planetary temperatures and the only one of the three not so far linked to political climate activism. — Lewis Page, The Register, 16 January 2013

“which we interpret as a combination of natural variability and a slow down in the growth rate of net climate forcing.”
    “net climate forcing.”
So does this mean that in his mind, if it were not for Man’s contribution to Global Warming, the Earth would have been cooling for the last, oh, fourteen years or so?
    Quite a stretch there, Jimbo.
The rest of us interpret this as just natural climate. No net climate forcing, no Global Warming.
Of course, the rest of us aren’t being paid to justify any certain position.
And we can look back at the last fifteen years of hysterical screaming doomsaying on the part of the wealth destroyers and see that…
    Nothing’s changed.

    Frankly Speaking

    Hello, folks

Can you do me a favor? Pull your head out of the sand for just a minute. It appears to me that this is an example of a common phenomenon: “people hear what they want to hear.”

From the article: “It should be noted that the ‘standstill’ temperature is at a much higher level than existed at any year in the prior decade except for the single year 1998, which had the strongest El Nino of the century.” This says that the five-year temperature AVERAGE is higher than every single year of the prior decade but one.

Can you honestly tell me that you can look at Figure 1, the chart titled “Global Land-Ocean Temperature”, in the Hansen et al article, and not see a global warming trend? And what do you make of this animation of temperature change?

But hey, why worry? It’s only our children’s future we’re talking about.

Okay, go ahead. Take a deep breath… and stick your head in the sand. Do it for your children.

P.S. Kudos for actually linking to the article whose conclusions you wish to distort. Most choose to simply lie outright and/or make unsubstantiated claims.
