The Pulitzer Traitors

Some on the right have appeared surprised at the announcement of three traitors to our country getting the Pulitzer for their work. I’m not in the least. I was expecting it, I mean this is the award for the MSM…what else would you expect? They are all patting themselves on the back as if anyone listens to them anymore. Their importance is declining second by second and this is just another nail in the coffin.

Bill Bennett is hot:

Here is the audio of his statements.

NEW YORK On his national radio program today, William Bennett, the former Reagan and George H.W. Bush administration official and now a CNN commentator, said that three reporters who won Pulitzer Prizes yesterday were not “worthy of an award” but rather “worthy of jail.”

He identified them as Dana Priest of The Washington Post, who wrote about the CIA’s “secret prisons” in Europe, and James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of The New York Times, who exposed the National Security Agency’s domestic (a.k.a. terrorist) spy program.

Scott Johnson of the popular Powerline blog also weighed in today, under the heading “The Pulitzer Prize for Treason,” declaring “Today’s Pulitzer Prize award to the Times brings a new shame to the Pulitzer Prize committee.”

According to an E&P transcript of the audio of his radio program, Bill Bennett said that the reporters “took classified information, secret information, published it in their newspapers, against the wishes of the president, against the request of the president and others, that they not release it. They not only released it, they publicized it — they put it on the front page, and it damaged us, it hurt us.

“How do we know it damaged us? Well, it revealed the existence of the surveillance program, so people are going to stop making calls. Since they are now aware of this, they’re going to adjust their behavior . . . .on the secret sites, the CIA sites, we embarrassed our allies….So it hurt us there.

“As a result are they punished, are they in shame, are they embarrassed, are they arrested? No, they win Pulitzer prizes – they win Pulitzer prizes. I don’t think what they did was worthy of an award – I think what they did is worthy of jail, and I think this investigation needs to go forward. “

Rightly so, but come one. This is the old media masturbating themselves over their treason…this is what they love.

As Scott at Powerline noted, as long as the MSM decides it’s ok to “declassify” intelligence then a-ok.

As I argued in a column for the Standard, the Risen/Lichtblau reportage clearly violated relevant provisions of the Espionage Act — a particularly serious crime insofar as it lends assistance to the enemy in a time of war.

Juxtapose the Times’s award-winning reportage with the Times’s highminded editorial condemnation of President Bush for allegedly failing to follow proper procedure in declassifying the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate key judgments. Today the Times instructs us: “Even a president cannot wave a wand and announce that an intelligence report is declassified.”

Waving a wand is apparently a prerogative reserved to Times executive editor Bill Keller, who made the decision to “declassify” the NSA surveillance program in the pages of the Times. According to Keller, the publication of the NSA story did “not expose any technical intelligence-gathering methods or capabilities that are not already on the public record.” Thus Keller waved his wand, and the Times blew the NSA program. Smarter folks than I will have to reconcile the trains of thought at work among the editors of the New York Times.

It’s ironic actually, Libby is facing jail time because of a perjury charge on a crime that never occured. The non-crime? Telling the media that Joe Wilson was lying when he went to the MSM.

That leak is bad…mmmkay. A leak about a desk jockey at the CIA working against this President to send her moonbat husband to Niger and lie about it when he gets home. Bad bad bad.

But a leak about a highly classified operation that listens to those who want us destroyed as they call into the US is Pulitzer material.

A leak that damaged our intelligence capabilities is Pulitzer material.

Sorry, not surprised. This my friends is the MSM of today.
