The first 100 days? Trump is doing just fine

The Daily Caller laments a list of campaign promises Donald Trump has broken.

Donald Trump has been in office for 100 days now. Though he has touted his nomination of Judge Neil M. Gorsuch to the Supreme Court as one of his biggest accomplishments, the president has flip-flopped or not fulfilled several central promises he made to his supporters throughout the campaign.

He has given various reasons for his one-eighties. Repealing the Affordable Care Act? “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.” China? “What am I going to do? Start a trade war with China?” NATO? “It’s no longer obsolete.”

As the clock ticked down to Trump’s first 100 days, he has increasingly looked less like the man he ran as.

A number of my friends have been expressing similar emotions.

“How do you think he’s doing?”

Fine, I reply. And he is doing fine.

No one who has spent time watching politics really expected everything to happen in the first 100 days. democrats have been doing all they can to obstruct Trump and the GOP has been less than cooperative.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Health care is complicated. China can be a useful ally. NATO isn’t obsolete. Being president is hard.

Over the course of his 100 days in office, President Donald Trump has been startlingly candid about his public education in the ways of Washington and the world.

He’s been blocked by the courts and befuddled by a divided Republican Party that’s running Congress, and his first months on the job have left the long-time reality-TV and real estate tycoon struggling for major governing victories and searching for a new approach to many of his campaign promises.

His “America first” campaign rhetoric has bumped up against the challenges of conflict overseas. His ambitious declarations on health care and immigration have run into the limits of Congress and the courts.

That first sentence- “Health care is complicated. China can be a useful ally. NATO isn’t obsolete.”

They still don’t get it. Trump is a businessman. He stakes out bargaining positions early and works from them right at the beginning. It’s what he has always done.

Trump has done some very significant things, and at the top of that list is putting Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. Trump has also issued 78 Executive Actions and they can be seen here. Trump has signed seven orders to reverse obama era regulations. Among them:

► The “Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces” rule, which barred companies from receiving federal contracts if they had a history of violating wage, labor or workplace safety laws. That regulation, derided by critics as the “blacklisting” rule, was already held up in court.

“The rule simply made it too easy for trial lawyers to go after American companies and American workers who contract with the federal government,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said.

President Obama had pushed the rule through an executive order in 2014. But with the rule wiped off the books, Trump then signed an executive order revoking Obama’s order and directing agencies to rescind any policies implementing it.

► A Bureau of Land Management rule known as “Planning 2.0,” that gave the federal government a bigger role in land use decisions. The rule was opposed by the energy industry.

► Two regulations on measuring school performance and teacher training under the Every Student Succeeds Act, a law Obama signed in 2015 with bipartisan support.

Illegal immigration is down 40%.

I am impressed with Trump’s skillful use of Mar-a-Lago. He invites people there to forge friendships or at least acquaintances. Trump met there with Chinese President Xi and it’s borne fruit. While Xi did ask the US for restraint when dealing with North Korea he also warned North Korea against conducting nuclear tests.

China issued a blunt warning to North Korea on Wednesday — telling its belligerent ally to not conduct nuclear weapons or missile tests, or it was likely to face military action by the US.

“Not only [is] Washington brimming with confidence and arrogance following the missile attacks on Syria, but Trump is also willing to be regarded as a man who honors his promises,” said the People’s Daily, the ruling Communist Party’s official paper.

North Korea should halt any plans for nuclear and missile tests “for its own security,” the newspaper said, making it clear that the US would not “co-exist” with a nuclear-armed Pyongyang.

Trump is said to be a warm person in private. Hosting foreign leaders at Mar-a-Lago allows for more amicable relationships out of the Beltway scrutiny.

I very much liked his lightning strike at Syria. Unlike his predecessor,  with Trump there was no red line, no waffling or backing down or finger pointing.

The thing is,Trump is trying. He’s doing what he can on his own and he continues to push his agenda forward. Do I expect all the promises to be kept?

No.

I did write that I expected that Trump wold do things that irritated me and I anticipate them to come. For right now, I am content. No, I am more than content because there is something that looms brightly over everything that Trump does or does not do.

She is not President.

I am surprised that so many people who are supposedly intelligent do not understand (or think they can pretend not to) how Trump established strong positions, then uses it as a negotiating leverage. Thus, he has compromise to give when dealing with the Chinese to get them to help try and prevent a war. He succeeds.

The nutty left accused Trump of being irrational and impulsive. But, he acts deliberately and measured in dealing with Syria, Russia, North Korea and the Chinese. He also makes timely decisions based on the best information at hand and does not deliberate for months pondering how actions would affect HIS political future. He is a leader.

The mere approach of a decisive leader to the White House has sent illegal immigrants scurrying for the border and would-be illegal immigrants reconsidering illegally entering the country, now that laws are enforced and the free gratis tap has been shut off. He is effective.

He is not the greatest President in history, but he is nowhere near the disaster the left predicted or claims he currently is. Aside from the deity-worship of Obama, he was a nothing off the mark and failed monumentally throughout his term; media worship and redefinition of failure cannot change the facts. Trump has 3 3/4 years to get that bad. He is off to a much better start.

@Bill… Deplorable Me: Trump established strong positions, then uses it as a negotiating leverage. Thus, he has compromise to give when dealing with the Chinese to get them to help try and prevent a war. He succeeds.

It’s better than that.
President Trump is able to “trade” a verbal position, never even encoded or enacted, for real action that helps the USA.
In effect, he gives up nothing!
Look how all he did was ask Lockheed if they could lower their price on our F-35’s.
Not only did they, by a lot, but even Japan’s F-35 order cost them less, and they were grateful to President Trump.
With China, he NEVER went after that gov’t for its currency manipulation. All he did was keep bringing it up on the campaign trail. When he needed China’s help with North Korea, he noted that they had STOPPED manipulating their currency and gladly accepted their help with NK.
He didn’t GIVE anything, China did.

What I love most about this president’s rhetoric is how easily he finds and pushes the buttons of the Lefties both in media and in politics.
He speaks, they go ballistic.
They want to tell us how & when to be upset by him, but we aren’t.
That feeds their high blood pressure.

Mad Maxnie Waters is determned to remove trump from office and thats not a pretty sight and frankly she need to be sent to a inane assilum for the liberal politicly deranged a section 8 and a padded cell is what she needs

Yes, he is not the greatest president in history. Yet.

Ruling solely by Executive Orders (after 8 years of foot stomping over Obama’s historically low numbers of EOs) is now all of a sudden good governance?
Taking lying to an entirely new level after ranting for 8 years over Obama’s lies is all of a sudden, “doing fine”.?
Changing historic Senatorial rules in order to install another plutocrat on the SC (again, after bellyaching and condemning any concept of that from Dems) has now changed to “fine”?
Hell, even a man suggesting abolishing the 1st Amendment is now just dandy?
And even after the constant bashing of passing ACA first to “see what’s in it”, it’s now fine for Trump to repeal after admitting he didn’t know what’s in the new repeal law?
Lying that Mexico would pay for the wall or that he’d lock Hillary up or that he wouldn’t seat lobbyist or that he’d drain the swamp or that China manipulated currency or funding for infrastructure are now just groovy?

Trump lickers are indeed amusing people, in a disturbing sort of way.

I have heard some in the media comparing Trump’s first 100 days to FDR’s. FDR had 1 1/2 months more to prepare (and had a cabinet approved) since he was sworn-in in March; changed to Jan 20th in 1937. But more importantly, his 100 days were counted by days Congress was in session. Last year Congress was in session for 110 days and in 2015, 133 days. On that basis, Trump’s first 100 days just started.
To actually count sessions one has to realized the House and Senate have different work calendars. https://www.congress.gov/days-in-session

To further his agenda, he has to take a page out of Reagans book of success. Do not be intimidated, the government shut down 4 times in his 8 years, he had well crafted speeches on prime time. Tell the people he is waiting on a piece of legislation to be presented to the floor for vote, that would paint Ryan and McConnel into a corner. Conservative talk would be delighted to name the representatives that are not keeping their promises.

Trump is doing just fine…I’m a little worried about the mainstream media, though.

@Nanny G: The fact that his video denigrating women and his statements disparaging Col McCain, Dr. Carson, Pastor Cruz and many upstanding people says more about you and other Trumpeteers than about D.T
As a New Yorker ,of his age, I’ve watched his ACT for 50 years. I got him.

@Rich Wheeler: Who is Col McCain? is he related to that Hanoi Songbird? I see they are having a lot of Rainbow Parades today out in your part of the country, so I can understand if you are a little slow responding. I’m not surprised at the success Trump had had so far, so much more than Obozo had back in his day. Though I’m not a New Yorker (thank goodness) I’ve followed Trump’s successes for a long time and am not surprised that he has done so well as prez.

@Redteam:Lt. Commander –Sister Service Thanks
You think Megyn Kelly’s husband and 3 kids think she’s gay?
You say short hair gave her away?

@Rich Wheeler:

You think Megyn Kelly’s husband and 3 kids think she’s gay?

Think?

The greatest american president since George Washington himself

@Spurwing Plover: He should be on Mt.Rushmore before the snow melts–From your lips to God’s ears Spewing.

“I don’t stand by anything.

And you guys support this lunatic and think he is the best ever.

All because you can’t stand the black guy who was in for the past eight years.

@PhillipMarlowe: Phulof, they let you out twice in one day? Must be a new record. be sure to keep those cage door hinges well lubed. Note: one l.

@Ajay42302:

Ruling solely by Executive Orders (after 8 years of foot stomping over Obama’s historically low numbers of EOs) is now all of a sudden good governance?

It takes an EO to reverse an EO and Obama generated a LOT of bad EO’s.

I see Phlippin Moron decided to share more stupidity.

If he never accomplishes anything else, he prevented Hillary Clinton from becoming president.

That was my sole reason for voting for him.

Anything he does beyond that is pure gravy.

Seriously?

This from George F. Will, today, in the Washington Post. George Will was throughout most of his adult life—until 2106, when he became “unaffiliated.” Why? Because Trump.

Will explains with great clarity. Read it and tell me what isn’t true. Then tell me why we shouldn’t be very, very worried:

Trump has a dangerous disability

@Greg: The W.Compost great unbiased source.
http://truthfeed.com/breaking-cia-declares-wapos-russian-hacker-piece-an-outright-lie/41223/
The same source that had Hillary 12 points ahead.
Well known for lies.
PS George just needs his job more than to tell the truth.

The President of the United States has been saying nonsensical things with increasing frequency. He often speaks in rambling, incoherent sentences. His superlative-dotted statements are sometimes so vague that he seems to know little more than what topic he’s supposed to be commenting on.

Anyone paying close attention has noticed this. George F. Will is just the first prominent conservative commentator to publicly mention it.

@Greg: At least he isn’t lying with every breath, as Obama and Hillary did. He speaks in plain language, not liberal, vague, political double-speak.
