An American drone strike in January killed four people in Afghanistan:
An American and an Italian held hostage by al-Qaida, as well as two Americans working with the terror group, were inadvertently killed in U.S. counterterrorism operations earlier this year, the White House said Thursday.
The White House said that Warren Weinstein, an American held by al-Qaida since 2011, and Giovanni Lo Porto, an Italian held since 2012, were killed in a January operation in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The operation targeted an al-Qaida-associated compound and there was no reason to believe either hostage was present, the White House said.
In addition, the U.S. believes that Ahmed Farouq, an American who the White House says was an al-Qaida leader, was killed in the same operation. U.S. officials have also concluded that Adam Gadahn, an American who had served as a spokesman for the terror network, was killed in a separate operation in January.
The White House said Farouq and Gadhan were not specifically targeted in the operations, nor did the U.S. have information indicating their presence at the sites.
One of the casualties, Warren Weinstein, was kidnapped in 2011. He begged Obama to save him before Obama finally killed him.
Yes, Obama killed Weinstein and the others.
You see, Obama maintains a kill list for drone strikes.
Since the Obama administration largely shut down the CIA’s rendition programme, choosing instead to dispose of its enemies in drone attacks, those individuals who are being nominated for killing have been discussed at a weekly counter-terrorism meeting at the White House situation room that has become known as Terror Tuesday. Barack Obama, in the chair and wishing to be seen as a restraining influence, agrees the final schedule of names. Once details of these meetings began to emerge it was not long before the media began talking of “kill lists.” More double-speak was required, it seemed, and before long the term disposition matrix was born.
Killing Americans is nothing new to our President. Obama has killed four Americans prior to this incident.
Obama has been personally directing drone strikes for some time, raising the ire of some in the left wing media:
The problem isn’t the leaks, it’s the policy. It’s the assertion of a presidential prerogative that the administration can target for death people it decides are terrorists — even American citizens — anywhere in the world, at any time, on secret evidence with no review.

The approval process for a drone strike has been a longstanding mystery of the Obama Administration. The CIA’s especially clandestine drone use is one of the starkest examples of contrast with the President’s campaign promise to bring transparency to the White House.
Now with answers about the process finally being exposed, findings show not only a weekly-expanded kill list, but also show the President at the head of it all. Jo Becker and Scott Shane at the Times report, “He signs off on every strike in Yemen and Somalia and also on the more complex and risky strikes in Pakistan — about a third of the total.”
Though many aspects of the strike process remain murky, it is now clear that President Obama has taken a major leadership role and level of accountability in the aerial war against Al Qaeda. This development quells worries that assassinations were being approved and carried out on the sole authority of the CIA.
Obama took responsibility for the action, but then again he took no questions either. Obama can add to his resume. He got Bin Laden and has reminded us of that incessantly.
And now he can also brag that he got Warren and Giovanni.

Obama never wanted to have to deal with captives despite the intel they might be able to provide. Thus he fell in love with drone killing. As far as I am concerned this is karmic.

When human intel is taken out of the loop, these things happen. The same targets we have hit with drone strikes could probaby have been taken out by SpecOps people with far fewer chances for mistakes; a second benefit would be the hard intel captured along with our enemies instead of destroying it in the missle strikes.

I hate to see this happen to Americans, but I also didn’t care for his killing two American teenagers either. He could have captured Bin Laden easily but as I said, he doesn’t want the untidiness of captives. His endless sense of marvel at himself is suffocating. Warren and Giovanni didn’t deserve this, but Obama does.
After the Houthis took over much of Yemen and after the Egyptians and Saudis had gotten together to fight them, Obama tried to talk the Saudis into NOT fighting them…..effectively.
Obama fights ”show battles.”
He does little, ineffective, but showy pin pricks.
He wants the same from the Saudis who say, ”no dice.”
The Saudis actually are attempting to destroy the Houthi ability to continue their expansion from Yemen outward.
Obama wants the Saudis to merely protect their own border with Yemen.
One has to ask why.
Obama has only allowed killing of any Muslim fighters under very constrained circumstances (ROEs) and of Shiite Muslims it seems he is even more restrained.
I think Obama timed his telling of this OLD killing by drone story to coincide with his order to the Saudis to quit killing inside Yemen where non-combatants might be getting killed.
His own seemingly regretful attitude was convenient as a way to tell the Saudis they would regret killing non-combatants, too.
But the Egyptians answered by a TV news piece about how they could help Israel if Israel wanted to bomb Iran.
And the Saudis answered by a short cease-fire against the Yemeni interior….only to start right up bombing again when the Houthis used the lull against them.
One Saudi prince even added fuel to the Saudi side of the war by promising a brand new Bentley to each and every pilot who flies sorties over Yemen.

As Scott in Oklahoma (#6) correctly pointed out, this is what happens when the gathering of intelligence of any kind is not a priority. This happens when we have so little information on the movement of HVTs, so little information on the movement of hostages. And, this is what happens when the war is directed from the WH.

@rich wheeler: I agree with respect to the electoral college. Florida will not be an issue. I do think a lot of other states could come into play but it is to early to tell which. Hillary and her antics are starting to worry the Democrat base and she really hasn’t had one press conference yet. It will be middle undecided who will make the difference and I have to believe they have been duped twice already and may be ready from some integrity in the Whitehouse. Hillary playing God and telling America that their Religion needs to change is not a real winner for her.

These men were killed in January. Obama comes out with his mea culpa within 24 hours after the exposure of the Clinton Family Crime Syndicate selling our uranium to the Russians. Why does Obama admit to this collateral damage within hours of one of the greatest acts of treason ever committed by any politicians?
Is he throwing up chaff as interference to deflect public awareness of the duplicity of his cabinet members and the Clinton Crime Family?
We all know, he knew nothing. He will use the Sergeant Schultz defense and let his cabinet members take the fall, if the public ever becomes aware of the treason, but why should the public become aware? All of you assumed the news of a few civilians being lost over four months ago is a coincidence as far as timing.
