Several days ago Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) coughed up a furball. He asserted that Republicans who sought a Balanced Budget Amendment were now part of a “cult.”
Senate Democrats attacked the “Cut, Cap and Balance” measure on Wednesday, calling the House-passed bill “devoid of substance” and “dead on arrival” in the Senate, where it will receive a vote later this week.

Over the last few years I’ve noticed our leaders in Washington and the state capitols enacting ever more policy that is ultimately harmful to our economy. Whether wasteful programs, unsustainable deficits, or business-strangling regulation, we see law after law get passed as people who consider themselves the most brilliant minds in the country seem genuinely surprised that we see rising deficits and inflation, high unemployment, and a housing market that can’t seem to recover.
President Obama’s three year spending spree has brought the country to the precipice of bankruptcy but as Speaker John Boehner noted, the president seems to fear losing re-election more than default on our national debt.
Despite facing a default deadline for months, the president and his team focused on what they do best – raising and spending other people’s money.
