Unemployment Rises; Obama’s Recovery.gov lies; & Private Internships About To Be Banned…What A Job On The Economy

Loading

Obama’s moves on the economy have all but ensured that this kind of news will be the norm for sometime to come.

The number of newly laid-off workers seeking unemployment benefits rose last week, a sign that jobs remain scarce even as the economy recovers.

The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time claims increased by 18,000 in the week ending April 3, to a seasonally adjusted 460,000. That’s worse than economists’ estimates of a drop to 435,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

The report covers the week that includes the Easter holiday, and a Labor Department analyst said seasonal adjustment for Easter can be difficult since the holiday occurs in different weeks each year.

But through it all another Obama advent, the Recovery.gov website, is still trying to tell us jobs are being created.

Yeaaaah.

And one last thing before I close out this post. A bit related to jobs. Obama is set to ban internships within private businesses.:

The Wall Street Journal is reporting the Obama administration is banning internships within private businesses.

Ponder that — Barack Obama is destroying another aspect of the free enterprise system.

Barack Obama is telling teenagers and college students, who are now suffering through a 26% unemployment rate, that they are not allowed to volunteer their time in the free market in exchange for acquiring valuable and relevant job skills that might, just might, get them off the unemployment line — and that ignores the ability to make valuable connections through networking in the workplace and build relationships for future careers and opportunities. The lost opportunity just of the loss of networking and relationship building is overwhelming and will put some college students who did not go to the right school or belong to the right fraternity or sorority or come from the right town at a serious, serious disadvantage.

“If … you want to pursue an internship with a for-profit employer, there aren’t going to be many circumstances where you can have an internship and not be paid and still be in compliance with the law,” the Labor Department’s Nancy J. Leppink tells the New York Times.

The Times also quotes Trudy Steinfeld, director of New York University’s Office of Career Services, regarding opportunities for unpaid internships. “A few famous banks have called and said, ‘We’d like to do this,’ said Ms. Steinfeld. “I said, ‘No way. You will not list on this campus.’” To be fair, she doesn’t want a Labor Department enforcer knocking on her door next week. But we wonder what NYU students trying to get their feet in the doors of financial firms think about Ms. Steinfeld rejecting opportunities on their behalf.

How all of this helps young people who are trying to develop marketable skills is a mystery.

Since the nation was formed and even before that, apprenticeships and then internships have been a key way for students to acquire valuable jobs skills. Companies would, frequently through college programs, agree to put a student to work teaching the student a trade. The company would get free labor and the student would, at no cost, get job skills.

It is a tried and true method of acquiring skills in this country. But the Obama administration is declaring such an act against the law.

It’s mind boggling to watch as Obama does his best to destroy anything with a hint of capitalism.

Hey…Labor Unions just can’t TOLERATE the free market. It’s either total, dictatorial, thuggish power and control, or nothing as far as our Union buddies are concerned.

Oh. My. Gawd.

And people think my calling this group a bunch of Fascist’s is somehow over the top.

I have had dozens of engineering interns through my places of work over the years, and I can’t think of ONE that turned out bad, or wasn’t hired by either us or someone else as soon as their time was up. It pads an otherwise empty resume, and screams I AM MOTIVATED!! in bold print.

So…all do you young-bloods who voted for this fucking son of a bitch, STILL think he’s “all that”?

I can’t WAIT to hear the mindless excuses BRob and the rest of these idiots come up with…

As an a self-employed man who made a career of working for extremely wealthy people, I can say without a doubt that there is a segment of the economy that will never recover. Many of the people I have worked for over the years are ruined financially and they are just too old to recover. Many people are quick to say, “Who cares about the wealthy? -we need jobs”, oh but these people were the ones who provided the jobs; and now those particular jobs will probably never resurface.

Billions of dollars were wasted on stimulus ideas that had failed previously and have failed again, while proven ideas like tax breaks for businesses that were in trouble were ignored. Well, we created fortunes on Wall Street and in the banking industry with taxpayer money and Liberal Politicians have consequently feathered their own nests in perpetuity; but the engines that drive this country’s economy, the small and moderate size businessmen, are grinding to a halt while we devise new taxes for those that are still hanging on and those who will soon hear the wolf at the door and arrange new entitlements for those who have never worked and for those who may never work again. Yes Socialism is wonderful, as long as you never step into reality: as long as you live in a fantasy world of make believe, unimaginable debt, and printing machines that never stop churning out money.

The U.S. Constitution grants no authority over education to the federal government. Education is not even mentioned in the Constitution of the United States, and for good reason. You can argue, the Founders wanted most aspects of life managed by those who were closest to them, either by state or local government or by families, businesses, and other elements of civil society. Certainly, they saw no role for the federal government in education. NONE!!!

Once upon a time, not so very many years ago, Congress understood that. The History of the Formation of the Union under the Constitution, published by the United States Constitution Sesquicentennial Commission, under the direction of the president, the vice president, and the Speaker of the House in 1943, contained this exchange in a section titled “Questions and Answers Pertaining to the Constitution”:

Q. Where, in the Constitution, is there mention of education?

A. There is none; education is a matter reserved for the states.

Not only is the Constitution absolutely silent on the subject of education, but the U.S. Supreme Court has also refused to recognize any right to a taxpayer-funded education.

Guess that victory lap dance over the census jobs was seriously short lived.

Old communist trick, give them free useless education in exchange for useless government service.

I think the 13th Amendment has something to say about slavery and indentured servitude.

National Security Force? Isn’t that what Obama and Rahm Emanuel are planning with the Youth….

“Victim here…Ward of State….We need you to kill all those old Americans and capitalists….You won’t have no money, but you will serve your God – Ala Hitler – Ala Obama”

I think this is how that goes…
