Hopey Changey Hangover Bad News for Democrats

Posted by: Mike's America @ 10:27 am in Uncategorized  | 231 views

Nov. 3rd election shaping up as referendum on Obama!

With all the talk last week of the White House bailing on the flailing campaign of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds (known as “Dirty Deeds” for the slime campaign directed at his Republican opponent Robert McDonnell)a new ad from ole D.D. plants his campaign hopes squarely under the Obama banner:

The problem is, no one is paying much attention. It’s what Peter Nicholas writing for the L.A. Times reports as the “Obama hangover.” Voters who were all “fired up and ready to go” last year aren’t so keen on doing a repeat this November; especially for candidates like Deeds or Jon Corzine, running for re-election as Governor of New Jersey.

Every poll in Virginia shows a handy lead for the Republican McDonnell. The race in New Jersey is tied between Corzine and GOP challenger Christie. If it weren’t for the Independent Dagget, a former Republican, a two way race would likely put Christie over the top by a comfortable margin.

The looming election in these two states on November 3rd is shaping up to be a humiliating defeat for Obama and a clear referendum on his presidency. Even if Dems manage a narrow win in New Jersey, the combined anti-Dem vote will be undeniable evidence that the old hopey-changey magic no longer works.

Such an outcome will set the stage for a roaring GOP comeback in the congressional elections in 2010! Payback will be SWEET!

Dunno Mike. NJ looks like the proverbial rock/hard place scene to me.

When you have the Environmental Federal supporting Christie and the Sierra Club supporting Daggett…. both turning their backs on a Democrat… I have to wonder just how conservative either of them are. Christie is on record, opposing the proposed coal plant in Linden. Daggett owns a firm that acquires and redevelops contaminated properties. Both tend to be in bed with the environmentalists, and that doesn’t bode well for cap and trade mentality that will result in economic decline.

Then again, “conservative” in NJ may just mean being slightly to the right of Mao.

In the long run, an R, D or I after a name means dog poo.

@MataHarley: The point is that the anti-Dem vote in NJ is strong. That doesn’t mean the alternatives are conservative. I’d hate to think your “no difference” attitude would mean we let more Dems get elected by default. If anyone thinks that’s going to lead to lower taxes and less govt. intrusion they shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Yes, Mike. Agreed that the anti-Dem vote is strong there. But it is a Ross Perot moment bubbling again to the surface.

Until the GOP gets the message that Dem-lite is just plain not acceptable, the Dems will get re’elected time and time again until they (the GOP) return to their roots, or a conservative third party movement becomes strong enough to dump the GOP into the garbage.

I hate to say it, but I suspect that 2010 will again show the libs/progressives uniting behind their man/woman, and the conservatives vs GOP-Dem-lite divided. The two anti-lib/progressives will outnumber the Dems. But until they get a candidate they can agree upon, the Dems will be the winner.

An “R” simply isn’t enough.

Tho I’m an independent in my voting, I registered GOP to attempt to have some say in a primary. That’s a joke here in blue Oregon. But a few weeks ago, I got a GOP survey in the mail with the “do not discard” type warning. I read thru it… really tried to answer to be helpful, but was so offended by the questions it ended up in the dumpster anyway. Someone’s really got to get to these people and present better questions. Missed the point of conservatism 99% of the survey, and was merely a bizarre example of partisanship vs conservative principles. Don’t know what to say.

@MataHarley: If that “Ross Perot” moment bubbles to the surface the same way it did in 1996 then we can look forward to Obama in Office until 2016 and Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House until the end of time.

Perhaps one of us (HINT, HINT) could do a separate post on the specific topic you raise. You might have seen the op-ed by Doug Hoffman, running not as the GOP candidate, but as a conservative in NY-23:

Check out the video of the University of Michigan students who drove down to Virginia to campaign for Dirty Deeds…

One of Deeds’ campaign slogans is “Virginia Needs You”. It should be “Virginia Needs Out of State Canvassers”.

I voted for Bill Clinton, but I can not imagine voting for a flatulent poltician from the Democratic Socialist Party ever again…

I live in NJ and am extremely disappointed with both choices.

I say “both” because Corzine is not a choice as far as I’m concerned.

There is no practical advantage for NJ residents no matter which of the three candidates wins.

Daggett seems to be a colossal moron. He just wants to shuffle where he would get his tax dollars from, not reduce the number of dollars he would get. He says he will lower property taxes. He will just tax everything else instead. And he wants to lower our property taxes, provided our local governments comply with his budget caps. If they do not, then the citizens are taxed at the existing rates. So we are at the mercy of our local governments for property tax cuts. Worse, the other places he would raise or add taxes will still be raised.

And how’s this for his view on guns:

“Second Amendment rights must be upheld, because American citizens have the right to bear arms. However, there is a limit when firearms endanger public safety. We support New Jersey’s aggressive gun control laws. The sport of hunting has a long tradition in our state; we support the rights of hunters in New Jersey.”

Given what the aggressive, blatantly anti Second Amendment gun control laws are in NJ now, we can understand from this that we can have the Second Amendment as long as we don’t have a gun. Guns aren’t safe but we can hunt with them, as long as we don’t have one. This is the way this guy thinks.

Christie’s position is whatever is most expedient at the moment. We can be very confident of him disappointing us just when it would matter most. I have absolutely NO confidence he will tell O where to get off. And Corzine, well, he’s an O Democrat. Obama has been doing Corzine’s campaigning for him. What else needs to be said?

The only advantage of not-Corzine winning is that it will send a message to Washington that even NJ is disgusted with Obama. And that really is saying a lot.

However, blowing O a raspberry does not improve the day to day existence for us at all.

Yep! And even though Christie might not be your ideal choice, I’m sure that he won’t disappoint you as often as Corzine does.

@Freedom Now: Thanks for sharing that. Why would a bunch of kids of Michigan want to get in a car and drive to Virginia to help Deeds? What possible connection would they have to this campaign other than some idiotic idea to help Obama.

Guess they will learn the hard way.

The democrats in new jersey will say and do anything to keep their grip on power. In passing the grave yard the other day, i was amazed that all the headstones had corzine stickers on them. There is no difference between Dagget and Corzine. They are both democrats and beholden to the machine in the state. At least christie as the federal prosecutor to up the challenge to drain the swamp. Corzine and Dagget are denizens of that swamp.

True. (At least, there is a chance that is true.) And that is who I will vote for.

However, I would have preferred Lonegan.

Hey, Mike’s America-

How did you get the quotes in your post? What is the code for that?

@JanH: I used the italic tag an i surrounded by <>. Don’t forget to close the tag with the /i surrounded by the brackets <>

You can also use the blockquote tag.

So is Dagget being “paid” by Corzine to remain in a pointless race? Or is he one of those hyper arrogant Ross Perot types!

Mike’s America-

Thanks. I think it was the block quote tag I wanted to know about- the one that will read “@Whoever:” How do you do that one?

The response tag (@JanH: ) is easy. Just click the arrow pointing to the left (maybe we could get one that points to the right) next to the number of the comment you are replying to. When someone clicks the @JanH link it will take the reader back to the original comment that is being responded to.

@JanH asks: “What’s with this lefty nonsense?”

We’d have to ask El Curtbo about that.

That reminds me of the time when I worked for the late John Ashbrook, one of the founding fathers of the conservative movement. He used a “no left turn” sign as a bumper sticker:

I just learned from Atlas Shrugs that Corzine is planning to win by fraud if necessary. WHY am I not surprised?
