To go along with the recent playboy article that Skye reported on which the writer wrote about the various conservative woman he would like to rape…Oh, I mean “hate f***”…comes David Letterman’s recent Top 10 list. He recounted “The Top Ten Highlights Of Sarah Palin’s Trip To New York” and placed this one as number 2:

2. Bought makeup from Bloomingdale’s to update her “slutty flight attendant” look

Will the feminists come out in her defense?

Conservatives 4 Palin:

Letterman continues to reveal himself as a pervert when he reduces a governor, a mother, and a wife to an object that he can leer at for his own pleasure.

Letterman didn’t stop there….he made a joke about Palin’s 14 year old daughter being sexually assaulted during a Yankee game they saw while visiting:

Beyond the pale. But hey, it’s a-ok because she is a pro-life, pro-gun, strong accomplished conservative woman.

John Zeigler interviewed Sarah during the first airing of his new radio show and she responded to Letterman’s attack:

For the life of me I never got the appeal of Letterman, or his stupid, never funny, top ten lists. IMO, he represents the lowest common denominator of America. How is it BTW that Letterman can attack Palin’s unwedded daughter when he just recently got married himself? Good thing we the public weren’t as cruel to him as he has been to the Palin family regarding out of wedlock children.

The last time I was in NYC, I was strolling by his theater while the audience crowd was lined up on the street. One of the producers came up to me and asked if I would be the “guest” for the skit that evening. I politely said, no thanks, consequently was berated for being the first person to ever say no.

I find it hard to believe that I was the first to ever say no to Letterman, but then, maybe that’s the root of his problem. Dave Letterman, if you are reading, get over yourself! How you stay on the air is an enigma greater than why anyone would possibly find you entertaining.

Like Katie Couric, you are so obsessed with Palin bashing you can’t recognize your own smallness.

are you kidding me….lettermen is pissed because he has to spend the rest of his life attached/married to a “female who strongly resembles a man. must be something about liberal women, they are less than feminine and sarah palin is soooo female and can do more manly things than he can. he is a shriveled wussy man.

Guys, that was a slam on A-Rod.

I saw her at the stadium, and almost didn’t recognize her. She had far less makeup on and looked younger. She and Rudy appeared to be having a good time.

One of the curses of being an attractive Republican female is you have to suffer the lears and jeers from Democrat low life guttersniping males… (sigh) if only they had some attractive females of their own to pick on, (sigh) poor guys its not like they can fantasize about ravishing Hillary, Pelosi, Michelle…….

(moving into complete bitch mode) The only thing they can fantasize about is Michelle’s arms….give me a break …the woman is about as toned as a Japanese wrestler and probably just as repulsively ugly in skivvies.

@Evil Otto:

No, you’re right – it was a slam on both. It just seems like you guys missed that part. Of course, not everyone follows the lives of Yankees ball players, so everyone may not get it. I’ve never been a fan of “in-jokes”.

What I will defend is that, as a politician, Palin is fair game with comedians. He’s not running for office or campaigning for policy, he’s trying to get ratings.

He has slammed Al Gore on several occasions, too – mostly on his weight/ eating habits causing climate change, etc… Of course, he was much funnier back in the late 80’s/ early 90’s before he took this slot. His “top 10″ gag has been pretty much stale for a long time.

I think the real problem is that these jokes weren’t very funny.

We didn’t miss it, Cary. I don’t think anyone cares about the slam on A-Rod. He’s a grownup and a sports celeb. That’s perfectly fair game for a comedian. Gore is a politician, and is also fair game.

Palin is fair game with comedians

HER CHILDREN ARE NOT. Do you not understand that part? I’ll say it again: “A slam that involved Palin’s daughter.” Letterman can make all the jokes he wan’t about Palin. I don’t care. HER CHILDREN ARE OFF LIMITS. I would (and have) said the same thing to conservatives.

I think the real problem is that these jokes weren’t very funny.

No, that is not the real problem. Not even close. By that logic, what Letterman said would have been fine if it had been funny? The joke was vile. It shows, once again, that for too many on the left there are no limits. If you oppose them, your family becomes a target for ridicule. In the 1990s, Rush Limbaugh made a particularly nasty joke involving Chelsea Clinton, and the left went nuts demanding he apologize. they were right to do so. She was off limits, and he stepped over the line. Now we see that sort of thing all the time, and the vast majority of it comes from the left. They’ve lost the sense that there are some rules for behavior in life.

No, the real problem here is that the blatant display of sexism and misogyny is being given a pass by the folks who would get their panties in a knot if the same were said of MeChelle or one of the Obama daughters.

This type of drag ‘em through the mud, take no prisoners treatment of the families of those on the other side of the aisle is despicable.

Weren’t we told, all the way back to at least Amy Carter, that the children were rightfully off limits? Wasn’t it trumpeted to the roof tops that jokes about Chelsea Clinton were unacceptable?

Of course, those limits of decency and decorum were never imposed when it came to Jenna and Barbara Bush.

Why, that would have required some sort of consistency and we all know that the Left is consistently inconsistent.

No, jokes about women in politics looking “slutty” are not appropriate, no matter which side of the aisle you’re on. You don’t hear people making “slutty” comments about Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Edwards do you? Of course not.

Joking about someone getting a 13 or 14 year old girl pregnant is disgusting and unacceptable in any setting.

It’s amazing to me that anyone would turn a blind eye to that sort of behavior and casually dismiss it as a ratings ploy.

@Evil Otto:

As a side note Otto, the Rush joke that you refer to was not a joke at all but a technical error on his TV show for which he immediately apologized.

The lie about that story has been told so many times that it has now come to be seen as the truth.

I posted on that matter at great length here.

Sorry, Aye Chihuahua, I’m not willing to give Limbaugh a pass on that any more than I’m willing to give Letterman a pass. I have never bought that it was a “technical error.” I think it was exactly what it appeared to be: an inappropriate joke that went wrong. At least Limbaugh apologized. Think we’ll see that from Letterman?

You’re certainly welcome to believe what you wish to believe about what happened on Rush’s TV show way back in 1992 even if your beliefs go against the grain of the evidence on the matter.

The transcripts, and the video tape, show it for what it was.

Did you read the post that I referenced?

As to Letterman, no, I doubt he will apologize.

These weren’t at all funny because they don’t have the slightest bearing on even a kernel of truth with respect to Gov Palin. She does not laugh at ‘funny looking’ foreigners, indeed her loving treatment of what some might call her ‘funny looking’ baby Tripp, should be enough to show that she doesn’t have that xenophobia that is the leftwing loons caricature of conservatism. The jibe at her not knowing any Jews is likewise insane. She spent the campaign with Sen. Joe Lieberman, an orthodox Jew, and interacted with and has many friendships with Jews and I bet with many Israelis as well (because unlike Obama she really is dedicated to this country’s ‘unbreakable bond’ with Israel). Moreover, she was the one photographed with the Israeli flag in her office (amazing she could find one in Alaska, when none could be found in Obama’s Offices either in Chicago or Wash DC). Furthermore, when a new Rabbi came to preside over a main synagogue in Anchorage, Sarah Palin welcomed him personally to the city and pledged the hospitality of Alaska to him and the congregation. Yet she doesn’t know Jews, or is some type of closet ‘antisemite’ according to Letterman (hence the smear reference to Mel Gibson).

But the worst reference and unfunny ‘joke’ was the number six reference that with a ‘wind and a nod’ Gov Palin got a kilo of crack. I mean are Letterman’s writers on some dubious substances.

Where is there any support for such a libel? I mean, New Yorkers have a Governor who admitted to adultery and using cocaine, but no such allegations have ever been documented against Gov Palin. Moreover, the whole ‘wink and nod’ is a New Yorky euphemism for prostitution. Thus payment for prostitution wasn’t in cash but for drugs. Thus he called the Gov a crackhead prostitute. While comedy works on exaggeration, this is really sexist misogyny. Furthermore, coming out after that magazine hit piece in Playboy about raping conservative women, including Gov. Palin, this whole segment was a hate crime.

Letterman’s vicious comments about Willow are just further examples of leftist hatred and sexism. I believe the reason for this hit piece aside from Gov Palin’s star power, is the number one on the top ten, she declined to appear on Letterman’s show and that p—ed him off no end so this was his revenge. But it was so stupid and unfunny and hateful, that in the end he gave himself the black eye.

Yes, I read it. I have also seen it on video on several occasions. And Rush’s mannerisms during the bit do not indicate to me that he screwed up. I have no doubt he regretted it and felt genuinely bad after, but people say things they regret all the time. Limbaugh, after that, did not ever go after Chelsea again, nor has he made jokes about Obama’s children. Letterman, on the other hand, probably has no regrets. After all, to the left, Conservatives are the Enemy, and any tactics are fair game when going after the enemy. Attack their family, their friends, anything.

The Christians describe the Enemy as one ‘without whom Nothing is strong’. And Nothing is very strong: strong enough to steal away a man’s best years not in sweet sins but in a dreary flickering of the mind over it knows not what and knows not why, in the gratification of curiosities so feeble that the man is only half aware of them, in drumming of fingers and kicking of heels, in whistling tunes that he does not like, or in the long, dim labyrinth of reveries that have not even lust or ambition to give them a relish, but which, once chance association has started them, the creature is too weak and fuddled to shake off.

You will say that these are very small sins; and doubtless, like all young tempters, you are anxious to be able to report spectacular wickedness. But do remember, the only thing that matters is the extent to which you separate the man from the Enemy. It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one—the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.

Hard Right, I agree and stopped watching him at the same time.

I just emailed cBS and called the FCC to tell them how appalling it was that a ‘comedian’ could slur not only Sarah, but suggest rape of her 14 year old daughter! I asked them to have letterman apologize AND taken off the air for a certain amount of time. When I finished my argument, the man said he’d never heard of letterman! I had to spell his name for him! HELLO!!!! Is this still the U.S.A!

The people they have answering phones to take comments at the FCC do not know anything about radio or tv in our country! They did want my name, address and telephone number, tho.

Actually, I thought Mr. Letterman’s “slutty flight attendant” remark was supposed to be a compliment. I’m sure that Gov. Palin reminds Mr. Letterman of when “Dave’s Mom” used to dress up for him when he was a child.

And, Mr. Letterman doesn’t need anymore pressure at this moment. He’s busy trying to work on his “trophy wife” concept.

Letterman’s right, to make his remarks, is covered under free speech — as much as I believe they are inciting “hate” speech and that his fixation on Sarah Palin is bordering on pathological. I also believe implying that the public rape of a teenage girl — is a joke — happens to be one of the most disgusting things ever uttered on television or other mass communications media.

As I cannot afford to buy-out CBS, fire him, and create a new network from top to bottom (that might attract viewers) I exercised MY rights of free speech and advise all of you to consider similar communications.

I sent a polite, to-the-point note to CBS executives and The Late Show explaining that my family did not find misogyny humorous nor the implied statutory rape of a 14-year-old. Further I explained that all tv access to CBS was now blocked within our household with an explanation to our children…while free speech is guaranteed — we can exercise free speech with OUR selection of entertainment and support (or not) of advertising sponsors.

Finally, I sent a letter to Mirriam-Webster Dictionary nominating a new, additional definition for misogynist — “A David Letterman.”

Despicable of Letterman. I don’t accept that his ‘apology’ was anything of the kind. An apology means nothing if it is not sincere, and he definitely was not at all contrite. If NOW had not also stood squarely behind Palin on this, I doubt Letterman would have apologized at all. Matt Lauer’s inference that Palin’s response to Letterman’s “joke” was overreacting, was not well received in this household. (My wife was at one time a rape victim counselor.) Many parents would have reacted much more angrily than Sarah Palin, and I commend the restraint of her and Todd. The shameless self serving gall of Letterman to invite Palin on his program, after his slanderous attack on her 14 year old daughter, deserves nothing but our scorn for this assh*le.

I’m certainly NOT defending Letterman by posting this but Leno told a joke about one of Palin’s daughters back during the Presidential campaigns.

The Joke:

“Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it”. — “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” 9/2/08

Comedians just don’t seem to have any filters these days.
