And yet he visited the Blue Mosque in Turkey without a similar request!

Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House RequestWednesday, April 15, 2009
By Edwin Mora

(CNSNews.com) – Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”–symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

Georgetown, which is run by the Jesuit order, is one of the most prestigious Catholic institutions of higher education in the United States.

Roman Catholics traditionally use “IHS” as an abbreviation for Jesus’ name.

PhotobucketThe pediment as it normally appears is in the photo at right with a highlight in red. The pediment as it appeared during Obama’s speech is below.

It seems an odd request from the White House especially when you consider the protests against pro-abortion Obama’s planned speech at Notre Dame University. Will he ask the Fighting Irish to cover their religious symbols during his visit? What’s next? Will the Secret Service confiscate the Nun’s Rosary Beads?

Obama Visits Mosque and Complies with Islamic EdictPhotobucket

And yet when President Obama visited the Blue Mosque in Istanbul earlier this month he “padded, shoeless like his entire entourage in accordance with religious custom, across the carpeted mosque interior.”

Photos from that visit and this video do not show any religious symbols in the mosque covered.

Neither do we recall any requests to Israeli authorities to cover Jewish symbols when Obama visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem last year. On the contrary, Obama donned a yarmulke, the traditional Jewish headdress.

Apparently, it’s only Christian symbols that offend Obama!

And Obama offends this Christian!!!

This is absolute madness. And now I wonder how the evangelical Christians that voted for BHO are feeling. Buyers remorse, maybe! I hope!

@Lorraine: It’s my understanding that a large number of Catholics did vote for Obama. They bought the phony story about how he was a centrist and wouldn’t be an activist for abortion.

On that issue and many others Catholics and other Christians are coming around.

It’s not too late to contain the damage Obama will do to our values if we put aside our differences and unite on the central issues we agree on before 2010.

Then watch out in 2012.

Grade A Hypocrite!

Why not do a address at a secular university. Obama is basically rubbing it in. He has an Islamic indoctrination from his growing up years but has claimed to be a Christian although he has not shown any witness thereof. Aside from his Kenyan Islamic roots, his deliberate shrouding of anything Christian in his presence is troubling.

Steve: He did claim to be a Christian when he was running. The only problem was that when confronted with Christian doctrine, his explanations fell far short of what the should have been. That was a warning flag that should have been heeded by Christians and Catholics, but unfortunately, for many of them, it wasn’t.

Mikes America: It’s not too late to contain the damage Obama will do to our values if we put aside our differences and unite on the central issues we agree on before 2010.

That is my main conern. Uniting on the central issues. To me, the most important is Fiscal responsibility and smaller government. Secondary issues: Pro-life and the 2nd Amendment. But are we going to nit-pick a candidate to death if he/she is okay on all of that but also agrees with the global warming groupies (of which I DO NOT belong). WOuld I be able to lay that aside if they held to my four important ssues. Probably. But would others. That seems to be the questions that hurts us every election

First, they tell us he did not bow and now the WH in a nonsensical denial is telling us it’s all in our heads, no cover up requested, they just wanted a “consistant backdrop of American flags.”

White House to Brody File: No Georgetown Coverup… Cross or otherwise

The President appreciated the gracious hosts at Georgetown University where he delivered his speech on the state of the economy. Decisions made about the backdrop for the speech were made to have a consistent background of American flags, which is standard for many presidential events. Any suggestions to the contrary are simply false.”

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/581525.aspx

From Mike’s source:

“In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday’s event, Georgetown honored the White House staff’s request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols behind Gaston Hall stage,” Julie Green Bataille, associate vice president for communications at Georgetown, told CNSNews.com….

“The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches,” she added. “Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.”

The only thing appearing out of context in Gaston Hall was Obama.

Regardless of who asked whom to do what, Georgetown University should have simply said “no”, if PEBO then didnt show up because of that well they could have stated he wouldn’t speak because of not covering the symbol.

For a self proclaim “Christian” he’s seems to be running away from it now that he is president. After all he doesn’t have to play the “faith” game to relate to people and earn their vote. Now that he’s president you must look up to him as a god!

Kinda a reminds of that bible verse found in Luke 12

8 “Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9 But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.”

Will he have this same problem at Norte Dame?

This may suprise some but I blame the folks at Georgetown more than I blame Obama! What they did as Catholics is far more serious than what Obama, the phony Chrisitian, did.

Anyone of Christian faith knew from day one that Obama isn’t anymore a Christian than the Pope is Muslim. As evil as Obama’s acts are, there really isn’t much that is a suprise.

Now if he changes his mind and doesn’t revoke Bush’s conscience clause, THAT will be a suprise.

To everyone who claims to be a Christian and is just now “being shocked”, perhaps you should ask yourself why you didn’t see it in his actions from the start; they were more than obvious.

But who knows, God is certainly not limited by a White House backdrop. Maybe in one of these Catholic Institutions, Obama will encounter a moment of great grace! My best “spirtual guess” at this point is that God will do what he always does with evil, and that is, use it for a greater good, somewhere, somehow in things to come.

Have faith. At least as Christians we know how it all ends; we win!

@Lorraine: It’s a tricky thing to get our conservative friends united on anything. We’re too often easily manipulated by the left into demanding 100% ideological purity or else. What it takes is a leader who can navigate the tricky shoals and lead.

There is all this energy out there waiting to be tapped and a movement begging to be led.

Mike:

You know what’s great about the tea party’s is it demonstrates the individuality of us REAL American’s unlike those who are of a hired mob or led around by a just master being told where to go and what to do in protests.

We did this on our own from the ground up without any intellectual guidance. That being said, this is almost how the birth of America came about…by her people with a dream, a vision and it went up to our founding fathers.

The left couldn’t doing any of this on their own unless they are being told what to protest against. They are presents guided like lemmings able to run off a cliff like a herd of panicked buffalo.

I am very encouraged from all this because there is something deeper that is building.

A different perspective…

Georgetown University is saying that The White House made the request to cover all symbols around the stage but it’s important to point out at there are dozens of religious symbols in Gaston Hall and those were not covered up. Also, other still pictures from the event show portraits of Jesus in the background which are off center from the stage. In addition, I can tell you that it has been my experience on the campaign trail that advance teams do typically make backdrops as generic as possible. It’s pretty much standard fare to make them that way. Also, the fact that Georgetown University actually has a perfectly fit triangle piece to cover up the cross and monogram suggests that they have done this before at other events. We are waiting on Georgetown to provide us a response to that question.

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/581525.aspx

However – it would have been better to have left it though. If the venue has religious symbols then stick with it or hold it somewhere else.

@b1jetmech: It’s very true that the Tea Parties are a natural political movement. Compared to the Rent-a-Mobs created by ACORN, labor unions or communist “anti-war” groups the Tea Parties are genuine Americana at it’s best.

It will be interesting to see how this moves forward. I hope the effort isn’t derailed by some third party siren song that only serves to re-elect Democrats. People should have learned that lesson with Perot and Clinton.

@GaffaUK: The White House made a deliberate effort to sanitize the area that Obama was in so that no photos of him would be taken with Christian symbols. Apparently, that is not their concern when visiting Mosques or Jewish Holy Sites.

Do you understand the problem now?

Ridiculous.. Not even worth commenting on except for one thing.. Mike, you had mentioned there is an energy that just needs tapping into.. I agree. People like Alfonzo (macho sauce) could be and are, a great catalyst. He needs to be supported and posted more often. We need people that are unashamed of the truth and are willing to stand up to the propaganda machine. Hitler used propaganda to his fullest ability. It is hard to fight, and is a very real tactic that the military uses constantly against its enemy, event today. The brain is a powerful thing. Turn it one way, and it justifies the slaughter of innocent babies while at the /very/ same time, convicting maniacs of double homicide in murder cases with pregnant women (makes no sense in any logical argument). Turn it another way, and it becomes a vigilante of justice for truth and righteousness that can block out all that is evil. It seems that the latter is far less common these days.

Check out his earlier videos as well. He is just now getting some major coverage. He is also writing a book (which I am really interested in reading). He’s got the charisma, the faith, the conviction to really make a difference. Like you said, there is an energy pipeline that is just waiting to be tapped into. Good call.

Well you know my views on religion – but I think it should the same rule for all religions. And if this is true – then I disagree with that happening if one religion is favoured over another in term of photo ops/speeches etc. However these things can be distorted and hyped. As someone here mentioned – Georgetown should of disagree and the WhiteHouse shouldn’t of requested it.

As far as religious symbols go and holidays etc – I have no time for the Political correct BS around such minor things. As long as it’s fair and reasonable. The west has a christian background so it reasonable for the West to celebrate Christmas etc and not have it renamed as Winter Festival so no one feels offended. But government should try to keep church and state seperate in terms of law making. If a government office has a xmas tree or the President says in God we Trust etc – then that’s fine. You would think this was common sense but like most things there are people on both extremes who take it too far…

Here’s a photo of Laura Bush speaking at the same place. Unlike Obama, Laura appears to know who the real savior is. Here’s the translation for any non Catholics; explains a lot!

Iesus (Jesus), Hominum (of men) and Salvator (Savior).

I (Iesus) means Jesus
H (Hominum), means “of men”
S (Salvator) means “Savior”

Savior of Men, hmmmm. If we took a survey of all Americans, who do you think would win, Jesus or Obama?

Until we figure out that we are not going to be saved by any “political savior”, not much will change, at least for the better.

Religious symbols are free speech and protected by the 1st amendment.

“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Such Liberals with their rabid, ingrained vehemence against religion, display their own ignorance of the Constitution when they support the “establishment clause” but overlook the “free exercise clause.” The 1st Amendment works both ways. Georgetown should have told the Obama administration that the Executive department’s request was a violation of their Constitutional rights and as such, the symbols would remain uncovered.

Breaking News: Former Ambassador Mary Ann Glendon declines the Laetere Medal at Notre Dame; Obama related.

Last month, when you called to tell me that the commencement speech was to be given by President Obama, I mentioned to you that I would have to rewrite my speech. Over the ensuing weeks, the task that once seemed so delightful has been complicated by a number of factors.

First, as a longtime consultant to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, I could not help but be dismayed by the news that Notre Dame also planned to award the president an honorary degree. This, as you must know, was in disregard of the U.S. bishops’ express request of 2004 that Catholic institutions “should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles” and that such persons “should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.” That request, which in no way seeks to control or interfere with an institution’s freedom to invite and engage in serious debate with whomever it wishes, seems to me so reasonable that I am at a loss to understand why a Catholic university should disrespect it
