Democrats Screw Up Stimulus Package

Loading

Welp, there goes my new PC for a while. Thanks Harry! Great job-NOT

“The US Senate this evening rejected a broad economic stimulus bill in a procedural vote, as it failed to muster the 60 members needed to end debate on the bill and allow a final vote later this week.”

“The Senate bill, which costs about 158 bln usd, would offer tax rebates to taxpayers, but also to low-income individuals and families that do not pay taxes, and recipients of Social Security and veterans benefits. The House bill, which costs 146 bln usd, only allows refund checks to wage earners. Senate Republicans this week offered to vote on the House bill with an amendment to allow seniors and veterans to receive a rebate, but no other additions.

The Democrats’ broader stimulus package bill would also extend unemployment insurance, allow companies to backdate operating losses to prior years, fund state and local efforts to refinance mortgages, and offer a range of energy-related tax breaks for companies and individuals. The House bill does not include any of this language.”

fund state and local efforts to refinance mortgages

I pay my mortgage on time every month. Now the Dems want me to also pay for other people’s houses?

Um… no thanks.

Is this even a stimulus pakage or a socialist take over? I wouldn’t even call the first version a stimulus package. If it was, it would have been very short term. A real stimulus package would be a mix of retraining for the long term and infrastructure programs for the short term. Not only does the U.S. have $1 trillion in infrasture upgrades that can be done, 76 million people will hit retirement age in the next 20 years, while the U.S. has 6 (which may go up slightly) million listed as unemployed at any one time.

One project that needs to be done is parts of the northern aquaduct system is not earthquake resistant even though it’s in a high earthquake zone. A decent earthquake could shut off the water supllies to much of Southern California. There is also a threat of saltwater contamination. The estimated cost would be $4.8 billion to protect the water supply of 21 million people. Because the repairs have to be done on 19 reservoirs, roughly 270 kilometers of pipeline and 500 miles of levees, this will require thousands of people. They could double the money to hire even more workers (probably every unemployed Californian) to get the project done faster. Now that’s a real and useful stimulus program.

Greg,

See, there you go talking real solutions again during an election year…. shame on you.

Get used to it, worse is coming.

Well, there goes my big screen TV.

From the beginning, you knew the Dems were going to mess up an easy piece of legislation. And, a package in which everybody looks good. But, I guess this is what BDS does to people.

I’m sure Reid is saying “The only way to stimulate the economy is a new round of taxes, something which the President and the Republicans simply don’t understand.”

Sure, Harry. Whatever you say Harry.
