Great roundup

Great post, Mike.

However, you forgot to add one thing about SEN Clinton. While she admits the “surge”-offensive is working, she has stated that the way to honor our troops is to bring them home. So I guess that means she is no longer in favor of an indefinite US presence in Iraq and is now in favor of bringing them home, even though they are succeeding?

I can’t keep up with all the political posturing of the Democrats. A new day, a new political group, a new pander and a new position on the war effort for these fools.

Michael in MI: Hillary’s not said that she would bring ALL the troops home.

This might be another of those occasions, such as in her husbands Administration where the troops from Bosnia would be “home by Christmas.” But Bill never said Christmas of which year.

Bush has also said he wants to bring the troops home. But he qualifies that by saying something about achieving VICTORY first. Hillary’s never been that clear.

You know the war in Iraq is won and coming to a close when the French want in the fight.

President Bush has had an Iraq strategy PDF file on his website since 2003. The Democrats have NEVER had a plan for Iraq. Sure, a handful of Senators will put up a 1-3 page summary or brainstorm or thesis, but they’ve never had a plan. They didn’t have one for the 2004 election.
They didn’t have one for the 2006 election (although they did con the American people into thinking that since they had a title, The New Direction in Iraq, that they had a real plan that went beyond cover page. Gov Dean admitted they didn’t on election night as polls were closing in Alaska.)
They don’t have one now.

The most they have is this idea that they want to bring the troops home ____ (fill in blank to pander to audience as appropriate). Duh. Everyone wants the troops home-W especially. If W could bring the troops home this year and have a victory parade down Pennsylvania Ave, it’d be a deathblow for the Democratic Party as such a move would prove the base to have been misled, and that the Joe Liebermans and other moderates were right. As it is, he can’t. In a few months….perhaps a few tens of thousands CAN come home-with success under their belts instead of defeat. Put another way, Democrats’ plan for Iraq is retreat, and retreat is defeat. It’s just that simple.
