Iraq, WMD’s, and Osama

Ed Morrissey has posted a couple new Saddam Document translations that are quite interesting.  The first one is document ISGZ-2004-009247 which details Osama Bin Ladens contacts with the Iraqi Regime.

The Reform and Advice Committee:

Headed by the Saudi Usamah Bin Ladin [UBL], who is a member of a wealthy Saudi family with his roots going back to Hadhramut. This family has a strong ties with the ruling family in Saudi. He is one of the leaders of the Afghan-Arabs, who volunteered for jihad in Afghanistan. After the expulsion of the Russians, he moved to live in Sudan in 1992 subsequent to the Islamists arrival to power in Sudan.

[A]s a result of his antagonistic positions against the ruling Saudi family in opposition to the foreign presence in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi authorities issued a decree to withdrawing his Saudi Citizenship. We approached the committee by doing the following:

A. During the visit of the Sudanese Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sunusi to Iraq and his meeting with Mr. `Uday Saddam Hussein, on December 13th 1994, with the presence of the respectable, Mr. Director of the Intelligence Services, he [Dr. Al-Sunusi] pointed out that the opposing Usamah Bin Ladin, residing in Sudan, who expressed reservations and fear that he may be depicted by his enemies as an agent for Iraq; is ready to meet with us in Sudan (The Honorable Presidency was informed of the results of the meeting in our letter 782 on December 17th 1994).

B. An approval to meet with opposer Usama Bin Ladin by the Intelligence Services was given by the Honorable Presidency in its letter 138, dated January 11th 1995 (attachment 6). He [UBL] was met by the previous general director of M 'I M 4 [QCC: possible the previous General Director of Intelligence] in Sudan, with the presence of the Sudanese, Ibrahim Al-Sannusi, on February 19th 1995. A discussion ensued with him about his organization, he [UBL] requested the broadcasting of the speeches of Sheikh Sulayman Al-`Udah (who has an influence within Saudi Arabia and outside, due to his religious and influential personality), to designate a program for them through the radio broadcast directed inside Iraq, and to perform joint operations against the foreign forces in the land of Hijaz. (The Honorable Presidency was informed of the details of the meeting in our letter 370 on March 4th 1995, attachment 7)

C. The approval was received from the Leader, Mr. President, may God keep him, to designate a program for them {QCC: UBL and the Sheikh] through the directed radio broadcast. We were left to develop the relationship and the cooperation between the two sides to find out what other avenues of cooperation and agreement would open up. The Sudanese were informed of the Honorable Presidency's approval of the above through the representative of the Respectable Director of Intelligence Services our Ambassador in Khartoum.

D. Due to the recent situation in Sudan, and being accused of supporting and embracing terrorism, an agreement with the opposer Saudi Usamah Bin Laden was reached, to depart Sudan to another region; whereas, he left Khartoum in July of 1996. The information indicates that he is currently in Afghanistan.

The relationship with him is ongoing through the Sudanese side. Currently, we are working to revitalize this relationship through a new channel in light of his present location.

Saddam's son Uday, head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, met with the Sudanese to facilitate a meeting with Osama.  If that doesn't go high enough for you then nothing will.

The memo details how the Iraqi's were asked by Osama to help in planning attacks in Saudi Arabia.  The Khobar Towers were hit in 1996 by Al-Qaeda.  How much help was given to them by Iraq?  Two years later the Embassies in Africa were attacked.  Then the Cole and finally 9/11.

This memo proves that Iraq was working with Osama and wanted to continue to work with him all the way up to 1996…..were they still in contact with him 5 years later?

The second document shows us what lengths the Iraqi regime went to in hiding their weapons programs from inspectors:

Republic of Iraq Intelligence Service Secret, Personal and Urgent (TC: foreign classification) Letter # M6/1/2/1488 Date 3/23/1997

To: General Managers & Top Officials
Re: Instructions

We noticed during the last inspection of the Agency location by UN team #182, that the team asked about specific acronyms of some of the Agency's directorates and procedures. Their questions are aimed at determining the activities of these directorates and finding a connection between their intelligence work and the country's military industrial activities. In order to avoid the possibility of any discoveries by the upcoming inspection teams, we find it is necessary to do the following:

1. Go through all the records and files, remove the documents linked to the Atomic Energy Organization and the Military Industrial Commission, or other stations & departments related to restricted weapon programs such
as offers, research, studies, manuals, examinations & invitations to consultants
….. etc.

2. Remove all documents and reports related to tracking the UN inspection teams and UNSCOM, and nterdepartmental memos in that regard.

3. Remove the restricted materials, devices, dual use equipment, documents catalogs, and related books from libraries and technical departments. Ensure clean-up of the laboratories, warehouses and factories from all traces of chemical, biological or radiation that were previously used or stored.

4. The process of removing or destroying the documents, reports and equipment must be done by special committee in accordance with the rules and regulations, and that will obtain the necessary approvals to destroy or move them to a substitute location.

5. Use a standard method of dealing with UN inspection team members. Answers are not permitted other than through the authorized representative. If they question the departments or organizations outside of the agency site, a standard response is to be made to all questions that this is intelligence-related work, and that they have to consult with higher authorities for permission to answer.

6. Directorate 3 is to check all computer work stations, microfilm, computer terminals, discs, and storage retrieval devices to transfer information related to the above subject in coordination with the agency of concern to avoid targeting of these devices in the future.

Put these orders into effect and give our agency feed back within a week from the date issued.

Notes: Return this memo to the agency after the above-mentioned procedures are executed.

Signature of the Director of Directorate 6
3/23/1997

Here is a memo specifically telling the workers to clean up biological, chemical, and radiation traces prior to the inspectors arrival.  How much more proof is necessary to prove that Saddam DID have WMD's and actively hid them from the world?

Don’t tell that to Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) whose area is in the turf of Sen. Patty ‘Osomma Momma’ Murray (D-WA).

Last month he released a public statement why he voted ‘no’ on the war resolution Republicans initiated to force the Deomocrats to where they stood.

“Let us be clear about the facts…Based on false threats about weapons…
Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction…”

Read the whole statement. All I could do is shake my head at the distortion of truth and facts.
