VA Chief: Actually Hydroxychloroquine Has Been Working Against COVID-19; Stopped Disease Progression on Middle-age and Younger veterans

Loading

The anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine has been working in COVID-19 patients, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie said on Wednesday.

Wilkie’s comments come after a study looking at the effects of the drug in 368 patients in Veterans Health Administration hospitals found no evidence the drug is effective against COVID-19, a new disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

Responding to the results during an appearance on MSNBC, Wilkie said, “That’s an observational study. It’s not a clinical study. It was done on a small number of veterans; sadly, those of whom were in the last stages of life, and the drug was given to them.”

The drug “has been working on middle-age and younger veterans,” Wilkie added. By that, he meant that it was “stopping the progression of” COVID-19.

What we don’t know about this virus could fill many books.
For instance just today:
Analysis of COVID-19 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship found lung damage in 54% of asymptomatic cases.
https://pubs.rsna.org/doi/10.1148/ryct.2020200110
So, you might feel fine but damage is being done on your insides.
Damage that makes you more likely to get seriously ill with something else years later.

Anyone who really watched the entire briefing today noticed the research on humidity and temperature and sunlight all had to do with HARD SURFACES, not the human body.
The news media who later asked questions seemed to be quite stupid as they conflated the two (the HARD SURFACES with the human body.)
And, apparently, some here are quite confused about this, too….sticking a black light up one’s butt, indeed!
If one is that stupid, does one know it?
Or is one oblivious to it?

@George Wells:

Yes, I did. And I couldn’t stop laughing! Orange-Daddy is so painfully clueless – if you can’t laugh, you have to cry.

But you somehow missed the entire presentation of the experimentation done before Trump spoke about the presentation and the experimentation?

What is a “disinfectant”? Any idea? Because of your bias, prejudice, hatred and STUPIDITY, you have a closed mind. Do you know what “chemotherapy” is? How about radiation treatment? However, try…. TRY to think what a disinfectant is and what it does. Then try to adult yourself up and accept ideas that aren’t off the wall but are actually being experimented with.

How stupid is it to think smoking pot helps with some medical conditions? What t totally absurd concept; only an IDIOT would believe such a thing. Oh… it works? Really? Well… press on.

I could be wrong, but no, you DIDN’T watch the briefing. Either that or you had your head up your ass while a presentation was made of different experiments with killing the virus and treatments. Don’t misinterpret me (your forte). I’m not defending or cheering Trump or any of the ideas; I am merely sick of the ignorance surrounding the opposition and obstruction of the vast efforts to combat this epidemic and save lives. It is the most shameful activity in the country.

I recall how many Republicans explained they voted for Bush simply because they felt they could comfortably have a beer with the guy. The GOP hasn’t changed.

As in an honest guy. How many was that? Yet, Democrats voted for Obama for one reason… he’s black. And they were only half-right about that. The Democrats certainly haven’t changed; gimmicks, ignorance and racism drives their agenda. I’ll say this: EVERY liberal I know is absolutely insane with hatred of Trump and it eliminates any semblance of logic, rationality or compassion. I would say, THAT has changed over the years.

@Nan G:

he news media who later asked questions seemed to be quite stupid as they conflated the two (the HARD SURFACES with the human body.)

That is absolutely intentional. People on the left don’t WANT to get it, they want to denigrate. For them to be smarter than everyone else (their default position), since they AREN’T very smart, then everyone else needs to be made to look STUPID.

@Nan G:

When Trump got to the part about ultraviolet light, he first touched on simply administering the UV light to the outside of the body, in effect what sunlight does. That would have been OK if he had stopped there, but he didn’t. He went on to speculate about the benefits of putting UV light INTO an infected body. Well, here’s some science for morons: UV light doesn’t pass through flesh the same way X-Rays do. UV is absorbed at the surface, where its radiant energy gets converted into heat. Enough UV radiation will burn the crap out of your skin – just ask anyone dumb enough to fall asleep inside a tanning booth – but it won’t make it a single centimeter INTO your body. So when Trump asks about putting UV radiation INTO a body, the only way that would happen would be if you INTRODUCED a UV light source INTO the body. Surgically, or through a pre-existing orifice. GET THE PICTURE?

And don’t try to spin your way out of Trump’s suggestion to INJECT disinfectants into the body. That ludicrous idea was so dangerous that the LYSOL Corporation immediately put out a warning to NOT DO THAT SH-T! But maybe y’all are just as dumb as your Orange-Daddy, and maybe you’re planning to drum up some “anecdotal evidence” for His Worshipfulness.” Lysol WOULD work fine, but just remember to use a REALLY big syringe… you wouldn’t want to leave behind any doubt about what happened.

@George Wells: So, since YOU don’t know how something can be done, NO ONE should try? No experimentation, no research? Yeah, that’s how problems are solved. Trump never said anything about Lysol. Only a really, really stupid person would suggest such a thing. REALLY stupid.

@Deplorable Me:

What is a “disinfectant”?

Ha! Good Try! For that “THEORY” to hold water, you’d have to accept that, for Trump, English is a second language, AND that he hasn’t got a clue how to use it. Chemotherapy is chemotherapy, not a disinfectant. Cancer doesn’t INFECT a body, it INVADES it. Yes, for a simpleton, trying to kill cancer cells may be exactly the same as trying to kill germs and viruses, or rats, but for the latter you call an “exterminator”, not a “disinfectant.” Buy Orange-Daddy a dictionary and hire a tutor to read it for him.

@Deplorable Me:

Surely you must be embarrassed in a deep and personal way to find yourself needing to defend this idiot president. You have my sympathy.

@George Wells:

Cancer doesn’t INFECT a body, it INVADES it.

Did you have to put on your dancing shoes to write that? It is injecting CHEMICALS into the body to KILL invading organisms. I THINK that is where the “chemo” part of the term is derived. What’s more, those chemicals are POISONOUS. They have to be carefully metered or else they KILL the patient. Trump never mentioned Lysol. Never. Not implied, hinted, suggested or recommended. That is YOUR interpretation, one derived of ignorance, a rejection of common sense and a desire to try and show Trump is stupid. In fact, Trump emphasized that this wasn’t a recommendation, treatment or cure; it was a prospect. Well, HE isn’t the one that turns out looking stupid.

By the way, Lysol was once advertised as a douche.

@George Wells: I believe that Trump was using the wrong words for chemicals that actually kill viruses within the body. I have not heard a word about the ignorant questions asked by the media, but then we know where your loyalties are.

@George Wells: And what have you done for the country Mr Wells? Have you done any research on the processes that have been proposed, or do you just criticize? Have you supported any of those who are working many sleepless nights to find solutions or are you just one of those who want the country to fail. greggie got my message. If you Mr Wells or greggie had been assigned to a search and destroy team in Vietnam and you both showed the lack of working as a team for the common good of the team, you likely would have been found with .223 sized particles some where in your bodies. No one has to like our President, but no one can deny that he is trying to do the best for our country despite people like you and greggie who are causing great harm to many of the people who live in the US. Thomas Paine a great patriot said “lead, follow or get out of the way” is still great advice to accomplishing great things. So since you can not lead nor follow, just get out of the way of those who can.

@Randy:

we know where your loyalties are.

Then you know that Trump makes me rich, not the Democrats, and then you ALSO know that I intend to vote for Trump for that same, simple, selfish reason.
That doesn’t give Trump free license to say incredibly stupid things, nor does it prevent me from calling him out for such nonsense.

Your suggestion that Trump merely used the wrong words for virus killing drugs seems to miss the obvious point that EVERYBODY has ALREADY been talking a blue streak about virus-killing drugs. When Trump asked of “injecting disinfectants” into patients, he OBVIOUSLY wasn’t talking about drugs like hydroxychloroquine or other pharmaceuticals, he was talking about household disinfectants. Stop trying to spin him into a get-out-of-jail-free space. He had a really embarrassing brain-fart, and that’s that.

Show a bit of Tucker Carlson’s courage to speak truth to power and stop the cloned forked-tongue act. You HAVE to be smarter than that.

@Deplorable Me: Dont tell George we have been putting chlorine and floride in our water for a long time one of those has no purpose in stopping cholera epidemics both are poison as hell.
Trump is getting a bit desperate to find a way to end the Pandemic as quickly as possible.

@kitt:

Trump is getting a bit desperate to find a way to end the Pandemic as quickly as possible.

Why? Because he realizes that he might not get reelected if the country is still midway toward recovery or worse? Is he willing to kill how many people? Just to buoy up the stock market? Yes, he IS desparate, and that’s a cowardly state for him to be in. The lives of his countrymen are more important than his silly job.

And FYI, Chlorine and Fluorine in the water supply ARE disinfectants, NOT drugs. If you took them internally, they would qualify as drugs, but would also be considered poisons above a certain concentration. Applied externally, they would still be topical disinfectants.

@George Wells: So you are a mind reader? If you know where my loyalties are, then you understand why I spent 32 years in the US Army and many other years in federal service. I served loyally even under Obama and Clinton and Carter. I supported them when they made decisions that helped our country, but did not resist them when they didn’t. Carter screwed up Iran. I know people who died in his ignorant attempt to free hostages. Biden released classified information on Seal Team Six and had many killed. My loyalties are to the country to which I gave my oath many years ago. It is also the country to which I gave my pledge every day since that first day in first grade. You can not say the same.

@Randy:

And what have you done for the country Mr Wells?

I am a Vietnam War veteran. I’ve served my country, I pay my taxes and I vote and I exercise my right of free speech. Your suggestion that Trump benefits from surrounding himself with nothing but “yes-men” is insulting even to him.

@Randy:
There is no courage in lying for ANYONE, and that includes the POTUS.

After my long rant yesterday of Trump’s deadly missteps and endangering people due to his gut reactions as a result of being beyond his realm of capability , we have today Lysol and Proctor & Gamble frantically begging their customers not to drink their cleaning products.

As most here may have detected, I’m not a particular fan on the low rent mafia figure in the WH. However I really don’t think the guy is being his general evil self here and I think he’d truly like to resolve this. I think he just doesn’t know how. He’s being pulled by some corporate owners to open up now while some are telling him it’s too early as they want to protect their golden goose. Doctors and scientist are telling him things he doesn’t want to hear and he doesn’t know which way to turn. He knows that the economy is his main ticket to reelection and he’s incapable of making s decision which he himself would be solely accountable for. He’s like that squirrel in the highway with an approaching car, not knowing which way to turn but knowing something bad is about to happen. He’s like a fence post turtle.

@George Wells: Mr Wells, I do not lie. You on the other hand either lie or are too ignorant to understand what is being said. You wish to interpret you own meanings instead of following “Seeking first to understand” like Covey preaches. When you do that, one understands what is meant by the speaker and one is not as likely to use his own words to interpret what is being said. But then again, you are just to ignorant to understand.

@George Wells: Trump does not just surround himself with yes men. He surrounds himself with knowledgeable people who provide courses of action. Those who subvert his administration he fires. You have not read is book so you would not understand. I did notice that you just served your country but failed to add the important part that you served honorably and loyally.

@George Wells: Floride is not florine, floride is toxic waste from aluminum processing and never proven to stop tooth decay, a good brushing with baking soda is much less toxic, read your toothpaste label, if a child ingests more than a pea size amt call the poison center.
Trump had a pretty good life before and will have a pretty good life after the Presidency. I will grant he doesnt like to lose at anything and wants to beat this germ. He has done a damn good job being President and uncovering how screwed up many of the ABC depts were, no matter how much money they were given they were in no way ready for this germ.
Seriously people have to be told not to ingest cleaning products? Actually sounds like darwinism.

@kitt:

Seriously people have to be told not to ingest cleaning products? Actually sounds like darwinism.

I will grant you that. Why, though, does trump keep… musing? about the science he knows nothing about. He should shut his pie trap when someone asks a science question and punt to his science experts. That would have nipped this stupid thread in the bud.

As for fluorine and fluoride (please note the correct spelling of fluorine), they are both toxic, but hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas are toxic in low ppm concentrations, while fluorides are orders of magnitude less toxic. BOTH produce chronic debilitation of bone tissue. (Remember I am a retired analytical chemist, and we worked with both…)

It’s ironic that it is Fredo Cuomo’s wife who is bathing in CLOROX!
She is also admitting to taking her own HOMEMADE version of hydroxychloroquine!
Yet, somehow it is the US president who is crazy stupid.
It is HIS supporters who would do such dumb things.
Well, NOT!
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/04/the_cuomo_familys_wuhan_virus_experience_is_a_window_into_a_weird_world.html

@George Wells: Then you know its toxic. tnx for the spell check. Its still mostly CNN and MSLSD watchers that had to be warned not to inject cleaning solutions. Just as a warning to you dont shove any type of lightbulb up your ass, its an upper respiratory infection try the other end dude, tell us all how it works out. Never mind I guess your head might be up your ass, best of luck with your self medicating.

@Ronald J,. Ward:

we have today Lysol and Proctor & Gamble frantically begging their customers not to drink their cleaning products.

Obviously there is no end to the stupidity of Democrats.

He’s being pulled by some corporate owners to open up now while some are telling him it’s too early as they want to protect their golden goose.

News flash; it’s not “corporate owners” who are marching on state capitals wanting their states to reopen because they can’t survive much longer without a paycheck.

He knows that the economy is his main ticket to reelection and he’s incapable of making s decision which he himself would be solely accountable for.

Actually, anyone with an I.Q. above their shoe size knows that the U.S. cannot continue this economic disaster we are in for much longer. Now the rocket scientist, AOC, is telling people NOT to go back to work and to boycott their jobs as she cheered the loss of the oil industry (a tweet she later deleted) that put tens of thousands out of work. This seems to be the leadership of the Democrat Party while Malig-Nancy tells unemployed Americans to eat $12/a pint designer ice cream. Talk about a party that is tone deaf.

He’s like a fence post turtle.

Sorry, the term is simply “post turtle.” But the post turtle left the Oval Office on January 20, 2017. For eight years, the American people suffered under the Soy Boy. No argument that David Axelrod will go down as the most brilliant politico in American history.

@Randy:

Trump does not just surround himself with yes men. He surrounds himself with knowledgeable people who provide courses of action. Those who subvert his administration he fires.

There are two kind of government workers; those that honestly want to do a good job for the American taxpayer and those who are simply leeches on the taxpayer teat. Fauci, IMHO, is in the second category. He doesn’t want to open the country until there is NOT one death, or one new case recorded.

So here is the $2 trillion question; what happens when the Chi-Com virus rears its ugly head again this fall? Another shut down? Invading privacy by demanding everyone test and carry proof they are negative? Wrist bands saying we’re negative? Having Chi-Com made drones monitoring everyone’s temperature as we go about our daily business? How much of our G-d given freedoms are we willing to forfeit?

What happened to the nation that was built on risk? If we had been managed by the Comrade Greggies and the George Wells of this nation, the Rockies would have never been crossed and any land past Kentucky would still be a no man’s land.

@retire05:

If we had been managed by the Comrade Greggies and the George Wells of this nation, the Rockies would have never been crossed and any land past Kentucky would still be a no man’s land.

Since I have argued quite rationally in favor of states opening whenever they want to, I can’t imagine why you might think I want either our states or our economy to be timid. We will almost certainly reach herd immunity well before an effective vaccine in at hand, something that will doubtless disappoint the pharmaceutical industry but will hasten the LASTING recovery of our economy. At 70 and diabetic, I won’t be on the front line of the bio-infantry, but I’ll be cheering them on.

@George Wells:

he OBVIOUSLY wasn’t talking about drugs like hydroxychloroquine or other pharmaceuticals, he was talking about household disinfectants.

How is that so obvious? Perhaps to a wilfully ignorant person, someone inclined to be hateful and prejudiced, but not to anyone capable of logical thought

@kitt: He realizes, like we do, what a disaster turning the country over to Democrats in this condition would be. Look how they totally bungled the previous recovery.

@Deplorable Me: The recovery had a huge flaw in it, they chained AHCA to its leg, like cement shoes for swimming lessons. Hold down the number of employees add massive paperwork limit hours you can give those employees and snatch away tax refunds from those that simply didnt want it or made just enough to not qualify huge discounts on one size fits none health “insurance” living paycheck to paycheck.

@Deplorable Me:

How is that so obvious?

Well, seeing as Trump has now CLAIMED that the whole “injecting disinfectants” thing was a sarcastic joke… a “test” for the media, that pretty much admits that the media took his meaning correctly – that he WAS suggesting injecting disinfectants, but that it was just a funny joke. Funny how Dr. Birx wasn’t in on the laugh, and you have to hope that none of trump’s followers took him seriously, either, or there will be some deaths like that poor sucker who took a lethal dose of fish-tank-cleaning chloroquine. A pandemic task force briefing would seem to be a proper place to float a potentially deadly “joke” only to an idiot or a sociopath.

@George Wells: No, they DIDN’T take it correctly because he never recommended anyone to do anything.

Apparently, Trump is used to dealing with intelligent people, not morons or people looking for an excuse to misinterpret anything and everything he says and criticize for no reason. I myself find it difficult to comprehend the stupidity that exists out there, but Democrats demonstrate daily just how much there is.

@George Wells:

Why, though, does trump keep… musing? about the science he knows nothing about.

Because that is what the general public is thinking. He takes them through the thought process in a more simple language than the specialists who are briefing and the so called media who skew everything he says.

@Deplorable Me:
TRUMP said it was a joke.
You want to explain how a COVID-19 Presidential Task Force Briefing is a good place for the President of the United States to crack a joke about a COVID-19 treatment that, if taken seriously, could kill people?
REALLY?
That’s the position you want to take??? Over 50,000 AMERICANS have already died from this virus, and tens of thousands more will ALSO die. And you think that maybe what everyone needs at this point is some sick gallows humor to lighten the moment?
REALLY?

@Randy:

He takes them through the thought process in a more simple language than the specialists who are briefing and the so called media who skew everything he says.

No. His “Abbey-Normal” brain has a particularly stupid thought and the short-circuit between his cerebral cortex and the Broca area of his left cerebrum makes him blurt out that stupid thought. It’s like he has some g-rated Tourette syndrome working. Like I said, someone needs to muzzle him, and goodness knows, there isn’t anyone left in the GOP with enough courage to do it. Spineless fools, all.

@George Wells: @George Wells: You need to read his book and when you can earn billions of dollars being as stupid as you are then maybe people will believe your rants about Trump!

@Randy:
He didn’t write so much as a thank you note and you know it.

@Randy:

Ignore George. He’s just here to make gays look bad.

Wonder what ever happened to George’s blog where he ragged on straights and Christians?

Statement from Malig-Nancy Pelosi according to CSpan:

“The president is asking people to inject Lysol into their lungs and Mitch was saying that states should go bankrupt. It’s a clear, visible within 24 hours of how the Republicans reject science and reject governance.”

My G-d, this woman is dangerous. She should be immediately held on ethics charges. Not to mention that she wants taxpayers in flyover country to bail out not only her failed state, but New York who can’t meet their union pension requirements and are terribly in debt.

@George Wells: WHO drinks disinfectant? Besides, Trump NEVER SAID TO DO IT. NEVER.

@retire05:

“The president is asking people to inject Lysol into their lungs and Mitch was saying that states should go bankrupt. It’s a clear, visible within 24 hours of how the Republicans reject science and reject governance.”

And that is EXACTLY what people like George base their ranting and raving on. Pelosi is a miserable liar. She always has been. She is lying scumbag trash, but she has the level of credibility liberals are satisfied with.

@Deplorable Me:

Hey! Looks like Captain Crozier will be getting a hearty salute from his men on the Roosevelt! I suspect that the team of admirals reviewing the evidence concluded that crowning a hero was better than hanging a martyr.

And finally the dog is muzzled! Handlers should have been on the job weeks ago.

drinks disinfectant? What?????????

@Deplorable Me:

WHO drinks disinfectant?

Obamaphone holders?

May 15, 2020 – Studies: Hydroxychloroquine Useless Against COVID

FRIDAY, May 15, 2020 (HealthDay News) — Two new studies are the latest in a series to show that a drug touted by U.S. President Donald Trump as a potential game changer against COVID-19 doesn’t work.

Hydroxychloroquine reduces inflammation, pain and swelling, and is widely used to treat rheumatic diseases and malaria.

Laboratory tests of the drug against COVID-19 yielded promising results, but mounting evidence from clinical and observational studies suggest that it doesn’t provide any meaningful benefits for COVID-19 patients.

In the first of the two new studies published May 14 in the BMJ, researchers in France assessed the effectiveness and safety of hydroxychloroquine compared with standard care in 181 adults hospitalized with pneumonia due to COVID-19 who needed oxygen.

Of those patients, 84 received hydroxychloroquine within 48 hours of admission and 97 did not. Treatment with the drug did not significantly reduce admission to intensive care or death within seven days, or the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome within 10 days.

The findings do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia, said the team led by Matthieu Mahevas, from the department of internal medicine at Henri-Mondor Hospital, Assistance Publique-Hopitaux de Paris.

The second study, led by Qing Xie, from the department of infectious disease at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, was conducted in China and included 150 adults hospitalized with mainly mild or moderate COVID-19. Half received hydroxychloroquine in addition to standard care and the others received standard care only.

Both groups had similar rates of COVID-19 recovery after 28 days, but those who received hydroxychloroquine experienced more adverse events. There was little difference in reduction of symptoms and time to relief of symptoms between the two groups of patients.

The findings do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat patients with persistent mild to moderate COVID-19, the study authors said in a journal news release.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration now warns against use of the drug outside clinical trials or hospital settings due to the risk of heart rhythm problems.

Adverse effects, with no apparent benefits—i.e., for COVID-19, there’s mounting evidence that it’s worse than useless.

Meanwhile, we have a new theory from the Prez:

“Don’t forget, we have more cases than anybody in the world. But why? Because we do more testing.

“When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing we would have very few cases.

“They don’t want to write that. It’s just common sense.”

@Greg:
That was one of Orange-Daddy’s most stupid moments ever! Just imagine that if we had never tested for this virus, nobody would be dying from it today.

Simply incredible!

@Greg: Well, too late. It’s already shown to be 90% effective, doing the same for pennies that Remdesvir does for hundreds of dollars a dose.

Why do liberals reject science just to attack Trump? How can anyone trust these liars?

Maybe there’s another repurposed medication that’s equally effective against delusional thinking. It’s the application of science that has been punching holes in the hydroxychloroquine claim.

May 15, 2020 – Drug promoted by Trump as coronavirus ‘game changer’ increasingly linked to deaths

In spite of which, the VA is still using it to treat COVID-19 infected vets.

May 16, 2020 – Veterans Affairs won’t halt hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 vets

The department refuses to disclose the precise number of patients that have been administered hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 since January, but a recent analysis of VA hospital stats showed that hundreds of vets had taken it by early April.

As of Friday, nearly 12,000 veterans had reportedly been infected with coronavirus among which there are 985 confirmed fatalities, according to data.

Why would they refuse to disclose the number of patients to whom it has been administered? It wouldn’t involve revealing names, but the statistics could be very helpful in evaluating the usefulness vs. risks of the treatment.

@Greg:
The Veterans Administration REPORTS that it is still using hydroxychloroquine because reporting otherwise would be an embarrassment to Trump, who would then fire the head of the VA because he “lost confidence” in the head’s ability to demonstrate loyalty to Trump at his every turn.

The VA refuses to disclose the number of Veterans being HCQ-treated because the Veterans Administration knows what everyone else with half a brain knows, that the stupid drug doesn’t work and that the stupid people who are still inexplicably promoting it are doing so at their own legal peril. I suspect that anyone stupid enough to actually request HCQ is being made to sign a liability release form that specifically spells just how worthlessness the drug is before it will be administered.

Nothing except stem cell therapy works on very very ill patients, the therapy accepted by thousands of doctors, thousands world wide is hydrox and zpac. Side effects well known.
There are safer more effective treatments in development outside of Remdesvir with totally its unknown and troubling possible side effects.
The way Faux xi handled HIV I would not trust him one inch.

@George Wells:

everyone else with half a brain knows, that the stupid drug doesn’t work

Really?
