It looks like labor unions might be getting tax relief from Obamacare, according to a report from kaiserhealthnews.org.
“Weeks after denying labor’s request to give union members access to health-law subsidies, the Obama administration is signaling it intends to exempt some union plans from one of the law’s substantial taxes,” reads the report.
Buried in rules issued last week is the disclosure that the administration will propose exempting “certain self-insured, self-administered plans” from the law’s temporary reinsurance fee in 2015 and 2016.
That’s a description that applies to many Taft-Hartley union plans acting as their own insurance company and claims processor, said Edward Fensholt, a senior vice president at Lockton Cos., a large insurance broker.
Insurance companies and self-insured employers that hire outside claims administrators would still be liable for the fee, which starts at $63 per insurance plan member next year and is projected to raise $25 billion over three years.
Unless it is written in the obamacare bill, the president doesn’t have any power to change any part of the bill. Only congress can do that. Why are the republicans letting him change things like he is? Are there any republicans left in congress?
@Smorgasbord:
But he’s going to do it anyway
@DrJohn: #2
This is why I say there are no more republicans left in congress. They know that obamacare has been declared a tax, and all tax revenue bills must originate from the house, and obamacare originated from the senate, but they don’t end obamacare over this. Now, they are letting obama change the law as he wants. We now have two types of liberals in congress:
(1) Those with an “R” after their name.
(2) Those with a “D” after their name.
It might also describe many other plans soon……
Remember back when Obama first took office and imposed Davis-Bacon law on ALL employment where even one penny came from the government?
Same thing.
Our condos were recently all ”winterized” for ”no cost to us.”
The taxpayers paid it all in full!
See, these guys got together and claimed they were getting union wages for blowing insulation into attics when, in truth, they were coming out money way ahead simply by collecting the rebate for each home!
So, they went around and offered ”free” insulation to hundreds of homes in our area.
Our group took them up on it.
There are ways around the Davis-Bacon act, just like this.
I bet there are other ways non-union people can benefit from Obama’s attempt at carving out favors for his buddies.
