Trump Fires Back After Mattis Scorches Him: ‘World’s Most Overrated General’

Loading

President Donald Trump is firing back after being lambasted by former U.S. Department of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

On Wednesday night, Trump took to Twitter with a series of tweets in response to Mattis’ criticism of his leadership and the civil unrest across the United States.

Noting that Mattis was also terminated by former President Barack Obama, Trump described Mattis as “the world’s most overrated General.”

“Probably the only thing Barack Obama [and] I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General. I asked for his letter of resignation, [and] felt great about it. His nickname was ‘Chaos’, which I didn’t like, [and] changed to ‘Mad Dog.’”

He went on to criticize Mattis’ leadership as the president insisted he is glad that Mattis is gone.

“His primary strength was not military, but rather personal public relations. I gave him a new life, things to do, and battles to win, but he seldom ‘brought home the bacon’. I didn’t like his ‘leadership’ style or much else about him, and many others agree. Glad he is gone!” Trump continued.

Trump’s tweets came hours after Mattis’ statement where he expressed deep concern about the country.

Courtesy of Breitbart, here is what he said:

When I joined the military, some 50 years ago, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.

At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors. Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict—a false conflict—between the military and civilian society.

Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that “The Nazi slogan for destroying us…was ‘Divide and Conquer.’ Our American answer is ‘In Union there is Strength.’” We must summon that unity to surmount this crisis—confident that we are better than our politics.

We know that we are better than the abuse of executive authority that we witnessed in Lafayette Square. We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution. At the same time, we must remember Lincoln’s “better angels,” and listen to them, as we work to unite.

I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

As did I and millions of others, many of whom recognize this for what it is- an attempt to undermine our government and transform the country into a Marxist utopia. He needs to better acquaint himself with Antifa’s stated goals and the various statements and actions of the demokrats, MSM, and the Deep State. It has been going on since Trump was elected. This is not an isolated incident. Surely he’s familiar with SOCOM’s definition of an insurgency.

Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens

And what Constitutional rights were violated? PT has been very explicit more than once that his actions are directed against the rioters not the protestors. With regards to assembly, the 1st Amendment states “peaceful” not “riot”. Apparently he has not heard of the Insurrection Act either which has been around since 1807. Nor apparently is he aware of historical precedence such as Washington putting down the Whiskey Rebellion; Grant using the military during Reconstruction to battle the Klan, or Ike using the Army in Little Rock to enforce Civil Rights decisions. It was also used for the wrong purpose by Hoover to squash the WWI Vets who were protesting for the benefits they were promised and in Waco.

In addition to that, the instigators of the violence have crossed state lines making it a Federal issue as well as a state and local issue meaning POTUS has every right to weigh in. I wonder if the General heard of the thing in the Constitution known as the General Health and Welfare Clause which makes the U.S. government responsible for the general health and welfare of its citizens. There have been hundreds if not thousands injured by the rioters as well as untold millions if not billions worth of damages across the country. That would seem to fall under the category of “General Health and Welfare”. Contrary to his statement about “a few” being responsible for the riots, in one night in NYC alone there were over 300 arrests made and that was only a fraction of the perpetrators. This is going on nationwide. It is far more than a few.

At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors. Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict—a false conflict—between the military and civilian society.

In 100% agreement. There was not a false conflict in DC between the military and civilians or anywhere else. Whose dividing the country now? That was the Park Police battling the crowds. Quit relying on debunked fake news reports from CNN. The National Guard was also out in force. Not only in DC but in the states as well. Is that militarizing the response? The Guard is part of the U.S. Army in addition to being a state asset. Enticing local and state leaders to do more to protect their citizens by reminding them of tools available to the President such as the Insurrection Act is a far cry from militarizing the response. Until the federal troops are deployed, the response has not been militarized unless he wants to consider the deployment of the Guard which would mean the governors militarized the response.

“The Nazi slogan for destroying us…was ‘Divide and Conquer.’

Tell that to the MSM and the demokrats, including Obama. They are the ones who have divided the country with this as has he now by weighing in with gaslighting statements.

We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution.

Unless their names are Obama, Brennan, Holder, Clapper, Biden, Comey, McCabe, Rice, Lynch, and, oh well, you get the picture.

I like Mattis and respect his service. However, I feel he is wrong in his criticism and believe he injected himself into this for political reasons.

I like Mattis and respect his service. However, I feel as though he is wrong in his criticism and believe he injected himself into this for political reasons.

I agree, Gen. Mattis spoke for political reasons. But we should carefully consider a question before judging Gen. Mattis too harshly:

If someone of Gen. Mattis’s stature honestly believes that any president is becoming an increasingly serious danger to the rule of constitutional law and to the safety of the nation itself, what legitimate constitutional response is there, other than a political one?

Mattis is hardly a lone voice crying out in the wilderness. There are serious people who expressing quiet concerns that we might actually see an attempt to cancel the November election on some contrived pretext. There are also armed lunatics talking about the possibility of a civil war. They’re far more worthy of being singled out for harsh criticism than Gen. James Mattis.

Mattis had his chance to be an important figure in history, he blew it. Not delivering a total victory in Syria over ISIS. Poof no one will study about his great victories in West Point. Now and old used pawn of leftists, such a sad ending for the old warrior.
Greg there is a huge difference between relish and resolve, we will hold our constitution and Republic, we will not go quietly into the socialist or communist model night.
We might get some very painful points across, we wont let you control the language we wont bow or take a knee, no tapping out. And unlike Mattis we wont halt and allow the enemy to regroup and gain strength.

@kitt, #3:

Gen. James Mattis is an important figure in history.

It’s a shame Gen. Mattis can’t accept that fact that Trump has been RIGHT about pulling the troops out that we’ve pulled out. But, those who disagree with Trump aren’t usually able to admit he knew more about the situation than they did.

Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.

Right there he makes a bold and incorrect assumption. Really a shame.

Gen. Mattis is still a great patriot. I wish Trump would accept his criticism for what it is; ill- and poorly-advised wrong opinion.

The Great Divider

Televangelist Pat Robertson says you’re not cool, Mr. Trump:

“He said, ‘I’m ready to send in military troops if the nation’s governors don’t act to quell the violence that has rocked American cities.’ A matter of fact, he spoke of them as being jerks. You just don’t do that, Mr President. It isn’t cool!”

If you’ve lost Pat Robertson, you’re clearly damaging your own reality TV ratings. I think your goose is cooked, your duck is done, and the horse you rode in on is badly limping.

@Greg: Wow. Now Pat Robertson is the person your turn to for your Constitutional guidance?

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, today, June 4, 2020:

“When I saw General Mattis’ comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we are getting to a point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up.”

OK, there’s an admission. How many of them have thus far been so intimidated that they’ve been afraid to say what they’re really thinking? And they’re not yet at they point where they’re ready. They just feel like perhaps they might be getting there.

@Greg:

How many of them have thus far been so intimidated that they’ve been afraid to say what they’re really thinking?

Not many. You had many government officials abandoning their oath of office due to being radically politicized by the Democrat party, thus trying destroy the legal rights of a duly elected President to do his job…all for political gain.

No one voted for Mattis. We voted for Trump.

“yawn”

Oh no!! Somebody is telling us how horrible Trump is!!!

At least he’s not burying people like Obama and Clintons.

@Greg:

The Great Divider

Barack Obama. Showed up just in time to exploit more dead black people. Good for him.

Interesting. Nobody seems to know who many of the armed “police” who cleared the street of protester for Trump’s Tuesday photo op actually were. Many on the scene were without identifying name tags, badges, or department insignia of any kind. Reports have been coming in from DC that this is not an isolated occurrence. There are many “official” armed enforcement personnel wearing riot equipment by no identifying badges or insignia. All of that has been removed. Even the mayor of DC hasn’t been able to find out who these people are.

Apparently men wearing black riot gear and guns are to be obeyed by DC residents without question. You don’t need to know what official authority is behind them.

Some appear to be out of state Bureau of Prison uniforms. (Click on the partial image at the top of the linked page to see the full picture.) The public streets of Washington, DC would be way the hell out of their lawful jurisdiction, and way the hell different from the situations they’re trained to deal with.

@Nathan Blue, #9:

Not many.

Right. Trump’s methodical public gelding of republicans who got in his way or openly opposed him has had no effect whatsoever on anyone’s willingness to speak out.

@Greg:

Trump’s methodical public gelding of republicans who got in his way or openly opposed him has had no effect whatsoever on anyone’s willingness to speak out.

Not even close. Your weak invocation of Mattis proves as much.

And as a helpful reminder, Trump isn’t a Republican.

If you need to see what real gelding of dissenting voices looks like, see Obama/Soros.

June 5, 2020 – John Kelly, President Donald Trump’s longest-serving Chief of Staff and a retired Marine Corps general, said on Friday that he agreed with former Secretary of Defense James Mattis’ assessment that Trump was harming the US.

And Admiral William McRaven, also today: Retired Navy admiral behind bin Laden raid: Forcefully clearing DC protesters was not ‘morally right’

Military professionals of their stature generally do not make such statements. They wouldn’t be doing so now, were they not concluding that a real danger exists. Such men recognize a higher duty to the nation and its Constitution than to any individual political leader. Our Constitution is at the heart of what is America. Political leaders are only momentary figures in a passing historical parade.

@Greg: Keep scouring the bottom of the internet we are still unimpressed.

Are you going to believe men like Gen. Jim Mattis, Gen. John Kelly, and Admiral William McRaven, or men like Tucker Carlson?

@Greg: Says Greg screeching in his best Karen voice.

Are you going to believe men like Gen. Jim Mattis, Gen. John Kelly, and Admiral William McRaven, or men like Tucker Carlson?

Yawn
The Bin Laden raid where they got the info from some bin Laden piss bucket boy by water boarding him? Got his porn collection, Aisyah does Bagdad…That raid?

@Greg:

Interesting. Nobody seems to know who many of the armed “police” who cleared the street of protester for Trump’s Tuesday photo op actually were.

But all the liberals seem to know teargas was used, which is a complete lie.

Are you going to believe men like Gen. Jim Mattis, Gen. John Kelly, and Admiral William McRaven, or men like Tucker Carlson?

I am going to believe the fact that Democrats are inciting violence and promoting a violent insurrection and Democrat mayors and governors don’t have the guts to handle it.

I am going to believe the fact that Democrats are inciting violence and promoting a violent insurrection and Democrat mayors and governors don’t have the guts to handle it.

Democrats conduct any necessary regime change at their nation’s ballot boxes, in accordance with the peaceful and orderly process established by the U.S. Constitution.

@Greg:

Democrats conduct any necessary regime change at their nation’s ballot boxes, in accordance with the peaceful and orderly process established by the U.S. Constitution.

Sure. That’s why they’ve pushed the Russian collusion lie they KNEW was a lie, tried to impeach him for extortion committed by Biden, used unnecessarily extended “quarantine” to execute massive voter fraud and then exploited a tragic death to foment nation-wide violent insurrection. Because they respect the Constitution so much.

That’s why they’ve pushed the Russian collusion lie they KNEW was a lie, tried to impeach him…

They didn’t try to impeach him. They actually did impeach him.

Had he not misused his powers of office to obstruct justice by blocking the testimony of over a dozen material witnesses and locking down evidence, he probably would have been removed from office as well.

@Greg: He abused nothing (it was Biden, Schumer, Pelosi and that fat glob Nadler) and no testimony was blocked but by Democrats.

@Greg:

Had he not misused his powers of office to obstruct justice by blocking the testimony of over a dozen material witnesses and locking down evidence, he probably would have been removed from office as well.

Hell, Comrade Greggie, Obama actually got people killed with Fast and Furious and should have been removed from office for that alone yet you still defend him.

Says a lot about you.

@Deplorable Me, #23:

He abused nothing (it was Biden, Schumer, Pelosi and that fat glob Nadler) and no testimony was blocked but by Democrats.

Yeah, right. Multiple White House insiders having direct, first-hand knowledge of events directly related to the matter under investigation openly defied House subpoenas to appear to testify at the direction of the President who was under investigation. It was in the news for weeks. It was at the center of the controversy.

And then Senate republicans voted to disallow the calling of the same witnesses at the instruction of White House counsel and Mitch McConnell, who publicly announced the outcome of the trial before it even began. Hey, what was that oath they all took before the trial began all about, anyway?

How has all of that somehow dropped out of your memory? Did you purge it all at once, or did it never register to begin with?

@Greg: Uh… there WERE no subpoenas. Remember? It was more important to the Democrat narrative to PRETEND they were subpoenaed than to actually get their testimony, because like the Russian collusion LIE, they knew there was nothing there. Democrats have done nothing but lie and obstruct. And steal. And trample the Constitution.

I can remember Schiff keeping testimony secret that he KNEW confirmed there was no Russian collusion and all of them lying in the media that Trump was a Russian asset. I can remember Schiff denying Republicans the opportunity to call their witnesses and present their evidence so he could run his Nazi version of “justice”. I remember Biden bragging on video that he extorted Ukraine with US aid to protect his kickbacks from his worthless son. I remember all that.

This is why we still have an increasingly unbalanced and dangerous incompetent in the Oval Office, and it’s why a significant number of people are going to become unhinged when he’s voted out.

@Greg: You’re way ahead of yourself. Biden hasn’t made it yet.

Maybe this will refresh your faulty memory:

From The Denver Post, November 4, 2019 – White House officials defy subpoenas to testify in impeachment inquiry as investigators release transcripts

WASHINGTON — House investigators on Monday released the first transcripts from closed-door depositions taken as part of the impeachment inquiry as four White House officials, including John Eisenberg, a lawyer central to the Ukraine controversy, defied subpoenas to testify.

The refusals to cooperate are coming on a day in which Trump tweeted that he sees “no reason” for lawmakers to summon witnesses regarding his July call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which he again contended was “perfect.”

House Democrats are encountering renewed stonewalling from the White House as they attempt to move deeper into the ranks of officials with knowledge of Trump’s efforts to press Ukraine’s president to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden at a time when U.S. military aid was being withheld from that country.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., called the four officials who declined to appear on Monday “first-hand witnesses to serious misconduct” and said that their absence was further evidence of Trump trying to obstruct Congress.

“These witnesses are significant, and the White House understands they are significant,” Schiff told reporters. “We may infer by the White House obstruction here that their testimony would be further incriminating to the president.”

More refusals would follow. The list grew considerably longer. Anyone who hasn’t taken up permanent residence in the alternate reality of the right’s increasingly bizarre pro-Trump propaganda construct remembers what actually happened. There’s room for interpretation, but the hard, documented historical facts are not a matter of opinion.

Joe Biden is an old man. Trump is a bat shit-crazy old man. When it comes down to a choice, I know who I’m choosing. We can’t afford to have bat shit crazy in the White House. The dangers of it are not an abstraction.

Not that his post has anything to do with jackass generals.

@Deplorable Me, #30:

They issued lawful subpoenas. The subpoenas were received by the witnesses whose appearances were ordered. The witnesses refused to comply.

Were they then supposed to give Trump’s lawyers a golden opportunity to bring the entire impeachment process to a halt by tying each one up with endless motions in court until Trump permanently retired to a walled compound in Florida? Because that’s how Trump’s army of lawyers handle everything that gets thrown at him, in business and in life. That’s how he continues to keep his tax returns locked down in defiance of a perfectly clear law.

I’m sure they knew how things would work out in the Senate. Trump has the GOP-controlled Senate’s gonads in a glass bottle on his desk.

This guy has got to go. This is why toilets have flush levers, and the nation has elections.

@Greg: They weren’t lawful. If they were, the Democrats would have pursued them. As I clearly showed, Democrats don’t care about subpoenas.

Sure you did. With geometric logic.

I’m out of here. A good evening to you.

Sure you agree these men are Patriots and great warriors.

Do you think Goodall and Brees statements politically motivated?

How bout that poll and the pathetic defund the police foolishness. Normies of both parties know these freaks are insane, lets start by pulling all police away from fancy gated communities like where the democrat politicians live. Then send the “mostly peaceful and masked protestors” there!
