Whenever there’s a story that could make Democratic lawmakers and their supporters look insane or unworthy of voters’ trust, some major newsroom rushes to make the real story about how conservatives are exploiting the moment.
It’s the “Republicans pounce” or the “ Republicans seize” trope, and it has become more predictable over time.
Left-wing agitators have recently chased Republican lawmakers and White House officials from restaurants. Left-wing demonstrators also came out in force last week during the fight to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. They have disrupted hearings and floor proceedings and intimidated lawmakers. Two protesters notably cornered Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., in an elevator, berating him for roughly 10 minutes over his decision to support the judge. Other lawmakers, including Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, were also followed and scolded by teams of angry demonstrators. On Saturday, as the U.S. Senate prepared to vote to confirm Kavanaugh, police in the nation’s capital arrested more than 100 protesters, many of whom had broken past barricades set up around the Capitol building.
Republicans, including President Trump himself, have referred to these bands of irate, screaming individuals as a “mob.”
“You don’t hand matches to an arsonist, and you don’t give power to an angry left-wing mob. Democrats have become too EXTREME and TOO DANGEROUS to govern,” the president tweeted Saturday. “Republicans believe in the rule of law – not the rule of the mob. VOTE REPUBLICAN!”
In a normal world, this wouldn’t be that controversial. Indeed, as anyone who remembers as far back as 2009 can attest, using the word “mob” to refer to groups of angry political protesters is not exactly breaking new ground. But we’re not in normal times, and certain newsrooms need to find ways to make the story of Republicans being targeted by angry demonstrators about … how Republicans are exploiting the story.
Lets time travel back to just after the civil war. To regain control of the state of NC, Democrats in 1898 employed scare tactics similar to the Democrats of the 1870s, including the cries of “negro domination.” 1898 Democratic campaign, often referred to as the White Supremacy Campaign, and describes how Democrats played on racial fears of whites to regain control of the state political apparatus.
Today the democrat apparatus MSM reported on MSLSD that a black man in the White House was an assault on the White House….yes anchor Stephanie Ruhle launched a vicious racist rant about a Black man expressing his personal views.
Accepting an invitation to have lunch with our President was described by this unhinged anchor. ” It’s stunning that just took place.” What next Ms. Ruhle a good old fashioned lynching and a picnic? Should the President be arrested for harboring a run away slave?
Yes continue to cover Republican responses to the mentally ill actions of the “new” lol democrat party.
@kitt: Kanye admittedly has mental problems–The stream of consciousness he unleashed in the oval office with the fist pounding should be a true sign he needs help—Trump using him as prop–DT found him amusing then troublesome
A black man who supports Trump. Whoda thunk it? He must have mental problems. That’s the only excuse racist RW can think of. Can’t be that Kanye realizes that Democrats only win when they keep black Americans on the Democrat plantation promising more free stuff instead of jobs, neighborhood security, better schools. After all, Kanye pounded his fist. OMG. That is so much more unhinged than saying “They bring a knife, we bring a gun.”
@Richard Wheeler: Kayne said his mental issues were misdiagnosed, he was suffering from exhaustion at that time.
Only hear what you want to, racist, your lack of empathy for someone who worked to exhaustion and had temporary issues is astounding.
Is that all you heard from him?
He’s bipolar and has been treated for this disorder–he admits to mental problems.calls it a stregth—-did you listen to him?—did he seem all there?—DT is using him as a photo op. Kanye’s got zero cred among African American voters..
I forgot—To you, our tweeter in chief, who has his own version of the truth, is perfectly fine.
Less than 30 days to go—you like Repub. chances to hold The House? I can’t wait.
Kitt Kanye is diagnosing himself? Makes perfect sense. He thinks he’s a Dr–sometimes–and a rapper at others—what else a politician?
@Richard Wheeler: You know that he saw no other doctor for a second opinion?
Do you see the new campaign by big pharma?
They want just about everyone on their mind altering medications
a 16 trillion dollar payday for them, like everyone needs to be on metformin and lipator.
Just when we think we get a small win for good clean food a liberal Judge may destroy it all San Francisco Superior Court Judge Suzanne Bolanos may over turn the monsanto suit.
A brazilian Judge has overturned the legal suspension of the use of products containing glyphosate.
You know good clean food would solve many health issues both for body and mind.
I am too waiting to see the mid-term results, have you seen the turnouts for rallies on the GOP side? So high they have to put up jumbo-trons outside of the venues for those that cant get inside.
So now you’re slamming someone who has mental issues but is wise enough to seek help? Now you’re a mental health treatment opponent? Seems to me half your state could benefit from mental health treatment.
A person admits to having a weakness but turns it into a strength, i.e. turning a negative into a positive, and you slam them for that? You really have gone to the dark side, Wheeler.
Everyone of us have our own way of expressing our opinions. Now, if you want someone who doesn’t seem “all there”, I suggest you listen to one of Maxine Water’s speeches.
OMG, stop the presses. DT had a photo op. So glad Clinton or Obama never used a personality for a photo op.
And how many African Americans did you personally poll?
I’m not diagnosing the guy—Drs. and Kanye himself are doing that.
You like what he’s got to say—that’s great
What’s your opinion of his music?—of his wife and in laws the Kardashians?
Don’t think he likes Kimmy getting more press than him. That whole family, including Kanye AKA Mr Kardasian–media wh—s
Would love for someone to show me that African Americans are polling 35% Repub. as stated here—how bout 25% ? Not the case
Kitt–he got 2nd opinion— himself–actually I’m fine with that.
Clean food–how bout plant based
Big Pharma–the scourge–
There is no pattern that confirms a 4th quarter sell -off. Markets clearly over bought and a correction was inevitable DT blaming Fed hikes which were also inevitable
Really? And you have been in contact with his Drs. when?
Didn’t say that but that never stopped you from putting words in anyone else’s mouth, did it?
Not a fan. Also not a fan of that Taylor Swift gal. But now she’s being touted as the voice of women. What a joke that is.
Not interested in them. They do their thing; I do mine.
No one but you seems to care.
You mean like the Clintons, Michael Moore-on, Alex Baldwin, Bruce Jenner and most of Hollywood?
What do you think of Whoppi Goldberg propositioning a 15 year old?
1 in 6 American adults took a drug to treat a mental illness at least once in 2013, with antidepressants as the most common prescription filled.
About 12% of adults said they used antidepressants;
8.3% filled a prescription for an anxiolytic, sedatives or hyponotic; and
1.6% reported taking an antipsychotic.
So, what’s your problem?
Under Obama a whole lot of normal Americans were threatened that their guns would be taken away from them simply for needing help with their paperwork: banking & taxes!
Who wouldn’t run to the doctor with complaints over crap like that?
But you didn’t see them rioting in the streets or setting up illegal roadblocks like terrorists in $#!+hole countries (and Portland, Oregon.)
>Nan G: ONE IN SIX not bad. – anti-depressants?–get some exercise
I take no meds–how bout you?
Obama never threatened to take people’s guns away for sloppy paperwork. lol You saying that FEAR sent them scurrying to a shrink–buck up snowflakes.
Still looking for ANY data showing African Americans support Repubs. over 25% how bout 20%?
@richard wheeler: No, we’re good.
And our signatures are OK, so
The article reports that the Social Security Administration was crafting a new policy that would have prevented gun purchases by certain types of beneficiaries. The ineligible beneficiaries would be those who have their finances handled by another party, known as a “representative payee.”
It would not affect all Social Security recipients, but rather those who have already been declared incapable of signing their name, and thus ineligible under law from purchasing a gun. Only in California could the policy lead to gun seizures.
At the time this was passing into regulatory policy we were still living in CA.
@richard wheeler: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/financial-theory/09/october-effect.asp
The algorthims that now run 80 % of trading might just need a little adjustment or have been adjusted for the mids.
CNN reported the news but then twisted themselves like you will to say its wrong
@kitt: Reality check Repub poll Ras has DT AT 49% approval–has had him as high as 59%-
Real Clear Politics average has him at 42% approval and African American approval average at 23% still significantly better than 2016..
Repub biggest problem with female voters—dropping from 42% in 2016 to 35% currently—Female vote 51% of electorate–African American 11%
Expect Repubs to hold Senate 52-48–Lose House 231-204
@Richard Wheeler: See I knew you could use the internet to find things on your own, good boy.
Oh how accurate were the polls for Nov 2016?
The tremendous attendance for rallies is proof of popularity I can see with my own eyes.
@retire05: The party of slavery, Jim Crow, and the KKK are unglued about a black man expressing opinions contrary to theirs. Who would have thought? Perhaps he (along with football legend Jim Brown) needs to be sent to a reeducation camp to straighten him out and get him thinking the way he’s supposed to think.
@kitt: You are looking at his base which got him only 46% in 2016–he has held them–except with some women–but he has failed to expand on it. That’s why The House goes Dem—actually not that unusual in midterm elections
Just as importantly I got N.D.currently 6-0 RUNNING THE TABLE to 12-0 and playing 12-0 Alabama for National Championship
Where is Red Team?
But the Dems loves him when he said that Bush hated black people. How quickly their loyalty dissipates.
Even with 98% negative press. Compared to Obama’s approval rating of 44.9% on October 13, 2010 with 98% positive press. Amazing, isn’t it?
Again, what do you think of Whoppi Goldberg propositioning a 15 year old?
@Richard Wheeler: RT is on a beer run for our Kav victory/toga party RBG is passed out in the can with the friggin door locked, no man here wants to slip the lock without an emergency supply of eye bleach JIC.
She kept looking at Kav and asking “Who the hell are you and wheres the hell is Toni?”
She was crushed in trivial pursuit the Constitution Edition. Then fell into a “me too” story about Abe Lincoln and General Grant…..
Whoppi Who– No interest in what she does–
Notice how you cherry pick Ras when quoting me.
Eact Trump is at 42% RCP approval—has never hit 50% and he won Presidency with only 46% approval—a minority Prez—-Obama got over 50% in both victories and was never mired under 45% like Trump has been.
Trump is easily the most unpopular Prez since Tricky Dick hopped on the helicopter and waved goodbye
You can blame the media—most would simply blame the man.
Kitt — Beer lovers unite behind Kav I’m having one getting ready for Dodgers against your upstart BREWERS–APPROPRIATE.
RBG You should be that healthy at 85–Guess Tony couldn’t keep up.
Actually Dodgers up 1-0 after 2–Kershaw throwing=BANK
Oh, I see; you have no interest in Whoppie but unnatural interest in what Kanye West has to say. Cherry picking again, Wheeler?
Didn’t cherry pick (that’s your forte) but gave you the RCP average for October 13, 2010.
That’s expected when you have a national press that is basically dishonest and nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party.
Just for you, Wheeler, an article written by a liberal:
