The real story on Buttigieg’s military record

Loading

But Mr. Buttigieg’s stint in the Navy isn’t as impressive as he makes it out to be. His 2019 memoir is called “Shortest Way Home,” an apt description of his military service. He entered the military through a little-used shortcut: direct commission in the reserves. The usual route to an officer’s commission includes four years at Annapolis or another military academy or months of intense training at Officer Candidate School. ROTC programs send prospective officers to far-flung summer training programs and require military drills during the academic year. Mr. Buttigieg skipped all that—no obstacle courses, no weapons training, no evaluation of his ability or willingness to lead. Paperwork, a health exam and a background check were all it took to make him a naval officer.

Mr. Buttigieg spent some five months in Afghanistan, where he writes that he remained less busy than he’d been at City Hall, with “more time for reflection and reading than I was used to back home.” He writes that he would take “a laptop and a cigar up to the roof at midnight to pick up a Wi-Fi signal and patch via Skype into a staff meeting at home.” The closest he came to combat was ferrying other staffers around in an SUV: In his campaign kickoff speech last April he referred to “119 trips I took outside the wire, driving or guarding a vehicle.” That’s a strange thing to count. Combat sorties in an F-18 are carefully logged. Driving a car isn’t.

Military service is military service. Not everyone is Sgt. York. As long as he wasn’t a traitor or turned against his country, it is honorable and commendable.

Misrepresentation, though, is detestable.

When I was in, they were called Direct Input Limited Duty Officers (I’m not kidding. Look at the first letter, and realize what that spells. That’s what we called them…)

@Nathan Blue: He isnt getting anyone knocked up either.

@kitt: Actually, I have to take that back. I’m not sure what program he went through, so I’ll rescind his D*LDO status. Seems he was a reserve intelligence officer.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the system used by Hunter Biden making him a lt, JG?

Buttigieg was in the rear guard.

@kitt: Hemorrhoids, maybe.

@Nathan Blue:

I just heard a Buttigieg campaign worker say that Buttigieg put his “life on the line for his nation.”

He writes that he would take “a laptop and a cigar up to the roof at midnight to pick up a Wi-Fi signal and patch via Skype into a staff meeting at home.”

What? Was Buttigieg attack by a hoard of anti-American killer fireflies while on that roof top?

Well, he was stationed near Chicago at Great Lakes.

Service is service.
My bro was a cook on a nuke sub back during the Cold War, unbeknownst to us (at the time) he was in the waters near Cuba almost his entire stint.
We just thought, cook.
Pete’s vehicle could have hit a mine on any of those 118 trips.
And, yes, his compound could have been hit at night.
Still, military service is not a “make or break” to the voting public anymore.

@Nan G: Pete could prove himself better by improving his city, not just trying to fast track to the Whitehouse with zero positive accomplishments.

@Nathan Blue: I’ve got no problem with his service or deployment to Afghanistan as Naval Intelligence Officer—-
Harvard Grad with honors and Rhodes Scholor
Lets also remember he volunteered for service

Personally wouldn’t consider anyplace in that country “safe”

Think primary season will be long and combative for Dems—probably a brokered convention—-Bloomberg, Bernie,. Amy and a wounded Biden at the finish line. Too close to call this early. Pretty sure Bloomberg or Amy could beat Trump

No doubt CNN, Perez and Bloomberg entry hurt Tulsi badly, but we’ll see her again–She’s a fighter

@Richard Wheeler: Sorry to say your track record on politics…its bad.
Mini Bloomers jumped out to a lead in NH in some tiny Berg that votes at midnight with an astounding 3 write in votes. 3 out of 5 total.

@kitt: HISTORIC Dixville Notch I believe -Love politics — great sport!!
I had HRC 50–44 ended 48-46 missed by only 2% pretty damn close—Comey made the diff with his reopening only 5 days out

Where’s RT?–Traveling with Rudy perhaps?

Watch JOAQUIN’S speech—-Mercy For Animals—-“Run to the rescue with Love and Peace will follow”

Buttgigs ‘military’ service was almost like mine, except I went to Basic, did two different MOS’s, wound up with 3 somehow, was responsible for millions of dollars in aircraft parts and served 3 years 10 months, got an early RIF. Maybe I should run for President.

@Boris Badenov: Might as well—hasn’t stopped “ol bone spurs.”
You spend any time in a war zone?

@Richard Wheeler: Does San FranFreakshow during the Summer of Love count? Or does seeing perfectly good kids my age get on planes and old men and bodies come off count? I ,as quite a few other did, took an oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America from all Enemies, Foreign and Domestic. Seems that Mayor Buttgigs forgot that part.

When did you serve?

@Richard Wheeler: #12 A lifetime actor, no real life experience at all, he play pretends for a living. Sorry if I couldnt GAF what any of them think.
Did he wear leather or fossil fuel based shoes that night?
They are fake. They are all fake.

@Richard Wheeler: I’d vote for Tulsi. She has a long, long road ahead of her….

@kitt: @Boris Badenov: Marine Corps Officer –active duty I966-70 RVN 11/67-11/68

Nathan Very long road–probably she’ll withdraw after S.C. and Nev.–but she’ll be back

Kitt—Does he care what you GAF about? Not much
Phoenix has a lifetime of experiences and his views of the world make a lot more sense than does those of Teletubby

@Richard Wheeler: I know it’s hard for Dems/Liberals to see, but their party really needs and overhaul. The DNC engineered Clinton’s candidacy (against the will of their own voters, who wanted Bernie), and know Clinton called Tulsi a Russian asset…like they do to Republicans.

Haven’t heard any Libs be honest about all that. It’s not good.

As a candidate, like Obama, Buttigieg is a gimmick… a novelty. Democrats will gleefully overlook his lack of achievement, failure as Mayor, racist tendencies, ruinous economic agenda simply because he is gay and THEY want to vote for the first gay President. That’s how we got 8 years of failure under Obama.

I wonder if Mayor Butt will be in South Bend today as 2,411 aborted babies are given a proper burial. I doubt it. What is it to him that one of the doctors who practiced in his city was responsible for the deaths of over 30,000 babies in his (the doctor’s) not-so-illustrious career?

Of course, like the Goznell story, this is one the left wing legacy media will ignore. Can’t have the horror of abortion tainting one of their candidates.

Mayor Butt is a red diaper baby. Research his father, the father Mayor Butt says he worshipped. The acorn hasn’t fallen far from the tree in that family. It seems the Democrats can’t find anyone to run who is not either an open, or a closet Socialist.

Meanwhile, Wheeler shouts “but, but………………………………puppies.”

If the race gets any tighter, I have no doubt the Democrats will make how many abortions each candidate is responsible for a competition. To appeal to their sick, far left base they have to totally embrace barbarism.

@Richard Wheeler:

Kitt—Does he care what you GAF about? Not much
Phoenix has a lifetime of experiences

No He doesnt care about his own species.
Do you really want to go where his life experiences could have been as a child actor in Pedowood?
He will continue to be praised as long as he keeps his mouth shut about his grooming.

@kitt: Maybe he can recommend a good cow lawyer? Well, I’m innocent; I drink my coffee black.

It’s hysterical how liberals hate the military except when one of their own was in it.

Like the heroic John Kerry, for example.

I’d like to see the jacket of you punks criticizing Butigege. Did any of you kill a man in hand to hand combat or shoot the eyes out of another person. I bet not you’re just windbags who watched “Pearl Harbor” or “Desert Storm One” on TV. It’s surprising how many candy-ass office boys who sit around on barstools or “the internets” criticizing those who actually did something for your country. While you punks do nothing but claim some one who DID serve “didn’t do enough”, “didn’t do what you WOULD have done” IF YOU had the balls to serve.

It’s not too late, saddle up. That includes the “author” of this tripe who IF he did serve, was attached to a rear element writing smart-ass remarks about sailors, soldiers and marines who actually fought.
