Earlier today White House Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki falsely claimed a United States President can do nothing about gasoline prices. This is an oft familiar claim by the political left, is is also one of the more transparently false assertions in their arsenal of deceit. First, WATCH:
So what can a U.S. President and administration specifically do?
We have abundant U.S. energy resources. Quite literally the strongest in the entire world.
- Permit the use of preexisting approved leases in ANWAR (Alaska) to put more volume into the Alaskan oil pipeline that is severely underutilized.
- Finish the Dakota access pipeline.
- Re-approve the preexisting energy leases in New Mexico, Arizona, NE Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
- Retract the stoppage of the Keystone pipeline to permit efficient oil transport shipments from Canada.
- Stop blocking the expansion of coastal oil refineries in Texas, Louisiana and Alabama (regulatory issue), as well as Northwest, Northeast and Southeast seaboard.
- Continue to develop natural gas as a clean burning fuel.
- Drive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an export.
None of this requires any approval from OPEC.

I even recall actually arguing in defense of Bush that he simply couldn’t pick of the phone and tell Exxon et al to lower their prices while there was world wide demand. Even if he could, why wouldn’t Exxon turn their ships around and send them where they could get more $?
Demand for gas is up because Americans and others are springing back from lockdowns. It’s also up due to hurricane Ida. If you look at the prices of gas over the past 20 years, it’s been continuously up and down.
Of course, gas isn’t the only thing soaring.
According to Americans for Tax Fairness and the Institute for Policy Studies, the 764 American billionaires grew $2.1 trillion richer during the pandemic. They held just under $3 trillion prior to COVID and now have over $5 trillion.
The Federal Reserve Board estimates these 764 people hold nearly 70% more than over half of U.S. households.
The meat industry, which is now monopolized by 4 major corporations, is making record obscene profits while cattle producers are going bankrupt and we’re paying record high prices at the grocery.
It’s also worth noting the these 764 people are spending fortunes to discourage vaccinations and masking.

The price of oil is controlled by supply. When OPEC is the supplier, THEY control the price of oil by controlling output. Increasing output reduces the price. Decreasing output raises the price.
When Trump opened US production without restraint, we no longer needed OPEC AND we were increasing world-wide production. OPEC is no longer in control. The US is. Thus, due directly to Trump’s energy policies, oil and LPG prices DROPPED. Of course, it can only drop so far, as it has to be cost effective to produce.
Remember when Russia and OPEC colluded to try and put out production out of business? They flooded the market with oil, causing the price to plunge. Why would they do that? Is US production some sort of threat to Russian and OPEC control of supplies and, thus, government policy? Trump, of course, played their game, filling our reserves with cheap oil. Game, set, match.
Little did OPEC and Russia know that all they have to do to destroy our energy production and energy independence, thus allowing them to control supplies and prices, is to put a dottering, stumbling, corrupt, lying idiot in office. For just a few million dollars, they got idiot Biden to make the US vulnerable to foreign control once again. There really is no “superior policies” or legislation trail to support that claim. Not only that but much like the GWB/Republican economic crash and burn of 2008, Trump left us again in ruins. The only notable act to point at is the tax scam which proved to be an abject failure. It didn’t create jobs of any significant number, shifted around $2 trillion to the most wealthy, and added $trillions to an already exploded the deficit.
Even prior to COVID, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturing jobs were tanking in the 3rd quarter of 2019. A further look at those BLS numbers shows that more jobs were added under Obama than Trump. Trump was merely riding off of the coattails of Obama’s success and gradually screwing it up in the process.
And speaking of the BLS, Trump claimed their numbers to be fake while campaigning in 2016 but then claimed they were legit when using them after elected. At the same time he was claiming the BLS numbers showed a roaring economy, his were actually worse than Obamas. So again, Trump never created any roaring economy but was able to persuade his basket of gullible to believe it.
Perhaps his economic failure is another reason the C-SPAN’s 2021 Presidential Historians Survey, Siena College’s Presidential Expert Poll and the Presidential Greatness Rankings conducted by professors at the University of Houston and Boise State University ranked Trump as the 2nd worst U.S. president in history.
But in fairness, I’m sure demanding political favors from Ukraine in exchange for congressional approved military aid and then inciting a mob to storm the Capitol to stop the Electoral College results from being certified by Congress didn’t help him much in his poor ranking.
