Score one for Trump: North Korea backs down

WSJ:

SEOUL—North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has decided not to launch a threatened missile attack on Guam, Pyongyang’s state media reported on Tuesday, but warned that he could change his mind “if the Yankees persist in their extremely dangerous reckless actions.”

The report, published early Tuesday, could help dial back tensions that had spiraled last week following an exchange of threats between North Korea and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mr. Trump warned Pyongyang last week that the U.S. military was “locked and loaded” and could engulf the North in “fire and fury,” while North Korea, through its state media, had threatened to fire four missiles in a bid to surround the U.S. territory of Guam in “enveloping fire.”

North Korean state media said in its report Tuesday that Mr. Kim had made his decision not to fire on Guam after visiting a military command post and examining a military plan presented to him by his senior officers.

Yeah right dj, like Kim Jong was totally unaware that the US would even remotely consider retaliation.

Is there any trump turd you won’t polish?

The North Korean vulture eye to eye with the eagle and and the vulture blink a look at that little twerp Kim Jong Un

Un: I have decided not to get my ass kicked today.

It appears that instead of the world descending into nuclear apocalypse, as the left predicted, Trump knew exactly what he was doing and the logically expected results are being achieved.

Nine people shot to death in Chicago over the weekend….. no major news coverage.
North Korea stops with the bluster and backs down…..no major news coverage.
A youth who should be on psycho drugs goes nuts and rams two other cars causing the death on one person….the media goes WILD.
Trump was his co-pilot, apparently.

Lil kim went bullying for another payoff, and was not expecting to be told to kiss our mule.
Dont give a dog a treat for growling and barring his teeth. https://www.voanews.com/a/united-states-humanitarian-aid-goes-to-north-korea/3692811.html
With Generals advising Trump this didnt all come from Trump, but he took the heat from ignoramuses.

Score one for Trump: North Korea backs down

Score one in Trump’s imagination. The public threats and counter-threats have let up a bit, but the North Koreans haven’t altered their missile or nuclear programs one bit. We should probably hold off on the victory dance until that happens.

North Korean military ratchets up war rhetoric

@Greg: Perhaps you missed the part where Un promised to fire missiles at Guam. After pondering if he would rather do something profoundly stupid or live, he decided Trump was not Obama and he better not push his luck.

@Greg: Perhaps it isnt Trumps imagination but the writer of the article.
I agree its too early to say standing up to and not paying the nutter off has worked, aid has only given him money for his dangerous toys.
Wonder why Kerry gave him a quick pay off it didnt stop his insanity. Seems that admin had no respect for sanctions.

@Deplorable Me, #7:

Missiles without warheads, targeting the ocean 25 miles away from Guam. That turned out to be hot air, but hot air obviously impresses the hell out of Trump supporters.

@Greg: Just how accurate do you think NK is?
Many people think Guam is all by it’s lonesome:

But the reality is a bit different:

Chances to hit an island or a ship or boat would be pretty high.
Glad Un chickened out.
Thanks to strong horse Pres Trump.

North Korea just lobbed a long-range ballistic missile directly over Japan and into the Pacific Ocean east of Hokkaido Island.

Apparently the score is actually none for Trump. He has not yet formulated a retaliatory Twitter response. Of course, he has been fully engaged on Twitter responding to the emergency in Texas, as this special message from the Governor makes abundantly clear.

(Uh, the ratings? Could you please repeat that?)

@Greg: Why don’t you just cheer, “YAY North Korea!! Kick Trump’s ass!!” Can you BE more anti-American, pro-US enemies? I doubt it.

Currently, Trump has a little ordeal called Hurricane Harvey going on, so we don’t really know what the response will be, but you can be guaranteed he won’t be paying Un a ransom to stop.

I have friends in Japan. I am not convinced that Donald Trump can be trusted to act in their best interest. I’m not even convinced that he can be trusted to act in our best interest. He too busy worrying about his ratings with his target audience. Yanking Kim Jong-un’s chain was not especially productive. Kim can out-crazy Trump any day of the week. Kim might call his bluff. He’s not spooked by his bluster. That’s the level he operates on.

@Greg: Believe me, YOUR best interests and the best interests of the United States are not parallel.

North Korea missile: ‘Most serious missile launch yet’

The North Korea crisis in 300 words

@Greg:

Says a man who has probably never personally been any closer to a war than his television set…

Says a man that is a part of an ideology that spits on soldiers, weakens the military and accuses it of war crimes whenever possible. Says a man that worships a President that gave Iran carte blanc to develop a nuclear weapon, ballistic missiles and PAID them to do it. Says a man that defended a crook that made all State Department communications and classified information available to our enemies, sacrificed 4 Americans on her alter of incompetency and lied about it all. No, your interests and the BEST interests of the United States and her citizens are certainly not identical.

You think you can shame me, who has always supported our country and our military. I have NEVER turned against those who serve, as the Democrats do… as liberals do. You are the left bear the shame, the stench of disloyalty.

Trump has gotten a unanimous condemnation of N.Korea from the UN. He has also gotten China to proclaim neutrality if the US has to respond to a N.Korean attack… meaning N.Korea will NOT attack. China also came out condemning these latest launches.

Only Trump’s strong stance and determination has brought about this progress. Obama’s weakness and empty threats only encouraged aggression. Gee, I bet even sending a folk singer to N. Korea wouldn’t have helped them take Obama seriously.

Only Trump’s strong stance and determination has brought about this progress.

I haven’t noticed any progress. We seem closer to a disastrous conflagration on the Korean Peninsula than at any other time in decades.

I’m not sure that some people don’t confuse the very thing we want to avoid with a solution to the problem.

Good lord. I’m in agreement with a statement by Steve Bannon. Of course, it may well be the statement that got him fired.

Steve Bannon, August 16:

“Until somebody solves the part of the equation that shows me that ten million people in Seoul don’t die in the first 30 minutes from conventional weapons, I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no military solution here, they got us.”

They’ve got us. At the moment. Bearing in mind that the “they” in question consists of a relatively few highly problematic people, as mortal as anyone else.

@Greg:

I haven’t noticed any progress. We seem closer to a disastrous conflagration on the Korean Peninsula than at any other time in decades.

You don’t? Well, of course you don’t; you think 1% economic growth is great because the media tells you so. You also think Trump has done nothing positive because the media tells you so.

You don’t think getting a unanimous vote to condemn N.Korea’s aggression is progress? You don’t think getting China to publicly state that if N.Korea attacks anyone, China is going to stand back while Un gets his taffy ass kicked? No, of course you don’t… you think unless he bows to them and pays them a ransom he hasn’t accomplished anything.

It will be progress when North Korea shows the first sign of altering their intentions or behavior. Which they have not done.

As Steve Bannon pointed out, “kicking Kim Jong un’s ass” isn’t presently a viable option—which Kim Jong un knows. You should stop pretending that someone has scored a point with a clever move. Nobody has yet figured out a clever move.

November 28, 2017 – North Korea fires intercontinental ballistic missile; Trump says U.S. ‘will take care of it’

North Korea fired what appears to be its longest-ranging intercontinental ballistic missile Wednesday, breaking a 10-week lull between test launches this year and dashing hopes that the country may be curbing its aggressive pursuit of a nuclear weapon that could strike the U.S. mainland.

The missile flew 600 miles in a high trajectory, but would have had a range of 8,100 miles had it flown in a flat trajectory, according to calculations by David Wright, an expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists. That would make it capable of reaching Washington, D.C.*

*The distance from North Korea to Washington D.C. is 6,742 miles. An ICBM would arrive 41 minutes after launching.

@Greg: Good thing Trump is dealing with it. Clinton and Obama sure couldn’t handle it.

Also, the N. Koreans are working to fire these from submarines. While their subs would be easily detectable, they wouldn’t actually NEED the range.

North Korea’s Hwasong-15; they just released photographs: North Korea has shown us its new missile, and it’s scarier than we thought

The Hwasong-15 is rumored to be equipped with a highly advanced evasion technology system that renders it invulnerable to Twitter posts.

It’s pointless to keep talking about preventing North Korea from acquiring nuclear capability. That horse is already out of the barn and wandering around the pasture.

@Greg: Ok. So now what? What would HRC do?
Pull a Libya? I don’t think there are any good answers for this mess.
Try to reply with something that doesn’t fall into another I hate Trump screed.

@Greg:

The Hwasong-15 is rumored to be equipped with a highly advanced evasion technology system that renders it invulnerable to Twitter posts.

It also proved impervious to billion dollar payoffs, and then turning our backs on it. You should watch the clip of Bill Clinton bragging on his deal with N. Korea that stops their nuclear and missile programs (though he sold missile technology to DPRK’s best buddy, China in exchange for campaign money). Doesn’t seem to have worked, does it? One can only imagine how well Obama’s policy of giving the Iranians everything they ask for and paying them to take it will work out.

You should be hoping and praying Trump has the ability to overcome the ineptitude and abject stupidity of the people you supported. If war comes, you can thank them.

@Mully: Hillary would do what Bill did. Take a big contribution and call it a done deal. Nuclear blackmail should mean at least $200 million in the Clinton Foundation coffers to ignore. She would also send them a button. Maybe a folk singer. Pull out all the stops.

If she got really tough, she could sent B2’s over to drop loads of her unsold books on them.
