Reince Priebus to Trump: For cripes sake, stop whining

Loading

Allah:

Note to Reince: This is only going to lead to much, much more whining.

That attack didn’t come out of the blue. On the contrary, it was a counterattack:

Donald Trump on Tuesday slammed the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), claiming the party’s system for selecting its presidential nominee is a “scam” and a “disgrace.”

During an exclusive interview with The Hill at Trump Tower, Trump said, “It’s a disgrace for the party. And Reince Priebus should be ashamed of himself. He should be ashamed of himself because he knows what’s going on.”…

Pressed on whether he would file a lawsuit against the RNC, Trump said, “I don’t want to think about suing yet. I’m not looking to do the lawsuits. I’m looking to have it steered right.”

Paul Manafort claimed this weekend that Team Trump is planning to file multiple protests with the RNC over “Gestapo tactics” being used by Team Cruz to win delegates, like, I assume, (a) calling them up, (b) asking for their support, (c) making sure they attend the requisite meetings. The Trump campaign would never stoop to such things. In fact, spinning away organizational failures is likely to be a key part of Manafort’s job going forward: Even if he succeeds in making Trump competitive in delegate-wrangling going forward, it’s already too late in many states.

In Virginia — a state where Trump won the primary — he has missed the deadlines to assemble lists of potential delegates. Cruz, however, has delegate candidates in 10 of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts.

The application deadline was last month.

Indiana’s primary is May 3, but 27 of the state’s 57 delegates — the actual people — have already been selected at congressional district caucuses. The deadline to register as a candidate for delegate was March 15.

In all, at least nine states have picked some or all of their delegates: Colorado, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

There are still dozens of states left on the table but the hallmark of Trump’s campaign is how small it is, until recently relying on a handful of inner-circle advisors plus a patchwork of volunteers at the state level, many of whom were participating in party politics for the first time. He hasn’t taken care to maintain his operations in some states that he’s already won either, leaving him short-handed in delegate outreach there. What’s Manafort supposed to do to win delegate elections in dozens of states without dozens of deputies who know what they’re doing? Even more ominous, via Erick Erickson, is how Cruz is out-organizing Trump in California, which nearly everyone expects will decide on June 7th whether Trump gets anywhere near 1,237 delegates or not. Not only will Trump likely need to clear 70 percent of California’s delegates to clinch, noted Yahoo News yesterday — which is no easy organizational task in a state that’s winner-take-all by congressional district — but the candidates are responsible for choosing their own delegate slate in each district by May 7th. It took Team Cruz five months to identify three core supporters plus three alternates in each of California’s 53 districts. Team Trump, meanwhile, just hired a political director for California … yesterday. What happens if Trump beats Cruz handily on June 7th but his campaign failed to name delegates in the districts he’s won? According to Team Cruz, that means Trump gets skunked in those districts. Good luck, Paul Manafort.

Rather than tending to the business of continuing to organize, some of his supporters here in Colorado have resorted to making death threats against the state GOP chairman via social media and email (stupid in that law enforcement knows who to visit) or by calling on the home phone to the state chairman. Instead, they should be doing whether they can find delegates in the CO contingent who are willing to support Trump if the nominating process goes to a second or third ballot.

What his fans cannot see is they are being conditioned, everything is so unfair. The rules for CO were set in Aug of 2014, ahead of the Oct deadline. The rules are available to each candidate. At that time we were all laying bets on date or event that would cause his demise musing the teflon Don. since then he has been attacked on all sides, some feeling empathy for him then defensive and well working into protective and offensive. There will be riots if they are unfair and steal this from me, so hand it to him on a silver platter? So a few Trump backers lash out at rallies, they are forgiven cause we dont like the BLM cause anyway, they chant highly offensive things.
So now death threats, gonna release the addresses and phone numbers of the delegates the hotel rooms, their spouses and kids wont be safe. I know only a few of his fans would be involved in this kind of behavior, but get them concentrated at the convention, and its 1968 Democratic National, tear gas police dogs and water cannons when the delegates bail to another candidate. And how many will be loyal after having the party maligned called a corrupt system, they work in the party for years to be elected as a presidential delegate. We are going to need each and everyone of those delegates to replace the goons that were given appointments in this administration.

@kitt:

The rules for CO were set in Aug of 2014,

I don’t believe that is true. If it is, you should be able to link to the published rules and those rules should clearly state that the state would not allow citizens to vote for delegates and that they would all be awarded based on a whim of the moment. So I’m sure several folks will be posting links to those ‘clearly published in 2014 rules.” The actual published rules of the Republican party in Colorado says that there will be no presidential preference poll and that the delegates would go to the convention unbound to any candidate. Yes I can provide a link to that, and will do so just after I see the link posted that shows where the rules were posted in 2014.

@Redteam: I dont care what you think Red you want something from the internet ,you look for it, you lazy liberal

What Trump supporters are seizing on is the decision of the Colorado GOP to scrap the presidential straw vote (preference poll) at the precinct caucuses. The decision to scrap the straw vote was based on that it doesn’t matter who wins it because it still gets back to a candidate to have organizational strength and a solid ground game to win at the county and state convention levels. Win at county and state, good chance the candidate will have delegate strength at the national convention. In ’08, Romney beat McCain in the straw vote, but McCain had more delegates at the RNC convention that year. In ’12, Santorum edged out Romney in the straw vote, but Romney had won all of the CO delegates because of organizational strength.

So when the media outlets reported the caucuses had cancelled the presidential preference poll before the precinct caucuses were held, Trump supporters took that as a signal there would be no precinct caucuses and stayed home. If Trump had any organization in CO, and they didn’t, they would have been in better position to have their supporters in place and offer a slate of delegates. The Trump campaign opted not to have any organization in CO.

The only ones who were confused was the Trump campaign because they failed to have a campaign organization, to read the rules, and ask questions.

@David: And his fans answer to his lack of basic foundation (important in building things) is to call the GOP and leave death threats. He has a plethora of attorneys that could have looked into the issue. But they are all busy with fraud and other lawsuits.
