Obama responds to Russian bombing in Syria by bombing hospital

Loading

Eager to show Putin he’s serious, Obama finally took action.

U.S. officials have launched an investigation after 12 local staff members of Doctors Without Borders and at least seven patients, three of them children, were killed after an explosion near their hospital in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz that may have been caused by a nearby airstrike.

In a statement, the international charity said the “sustained bombing” took place Saturday at 2:10 a.m local time. Afghan forces backed by U.S. airstrikes have been fighting to dislodge Taliban insurgents who overran Kunduz on Monday.

At least 37 other people were seriously injured–19 staff members and 18 patients and caretakers, the organization said. Dozens were missing, raising concerns the death toll could rise.

A senior defense official told Fox News on Saturday that the Taliban have been in control of the area around the hospital since Monday, guarding the building and drawing U.S. special operations forces into a firefight in the area. U.S. forces called in the airstrike because they were under fire and needed cover, the official said.

It is unfortunate the Doctors W/O Borders clinic was hit. They are notorious for setting up their facilities along the frontlines and allowing bad actors to operate in and around their clinics and hospitals – saw this in both A-stan and Iraq. We have told them repeatedly to set up in safer areas, we would help, but they always ignore the advice. They assume the risk.

I find it odd that DWOB is making such a tremendous deal out of the hospital being hit, as if the US has a history of deliberately bombing hospitals. Something is up with this, as if someone deliberately had this hospital targeted.

There was a time, pre-Obama when we never painted a target from the ground unless we had fully vetted the one doing the painting…..usually they were our own men.

Now we have No One on the ground that we can trust!
So, what did Obama expect?
I know, Russia is on the ”wrong side of history,” and the ”arc of history is looooooooong, but someday it bends toward us all being dead,” (or at least Obama being out of office.)

I’m sure the accidental bombing can be addressed with more gun control.

This seems to be a Democrat C in C trend; recall Clinton hitting the Chinese embassy during our airstrikes in Belgrade.

US General John Campbell admitted today that he took his targeting advice from ”Afghanis” on the ground.
Well, obviously, we cannot trust ”Afghanis.”
Afghani police do NOT value Western doctors or sick children in the same way we traditionally have.
They do not share our values at all!
They KNEW they were telling US forces to hit a hospital and did it anyway!

@Bill:

Agreed. I did a hot minute of research for us.

We’ll get better sources searching Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

MSF (Doctors without Borders) is a French NGO that keeps popping up hospitals in war zones (within the context of Syria and Afghan theaters), areas contested by islamists, and these hospitals keep treating terrorists, especially Al Qaeda which many would understand why that would be an issue with a gov’t that’s dealing with an insurrection.

Afghans did take issue, and have had a problem with that hospital for a while with their special forces raiding it earlier this year to grab an Al-Qaeda HVT.

Assad and Ghani both have had issues with MSF. The domestic media of both counties argue the MSF hospitals are part of the insurgency infrastructure. And an other argument made, is because they are NGO, you cannot starve these de facto field hospitals financially.

It’s worth a mention, the tinhats argue the presence of the Treasurer of Goldman Sachs and other prominent bankers on MSF’s Board of Directors proves that Financiers are involved in disability of Syria and Afghanistan.

There’s also some spin on Assad’s first reported chemical weapon attack being made from MSF hospitals that were operating in insurgent controlled areas of Syria that had no MSF personnel at said facility.

“Since 2012, MSF has built a strong and reliable collaboration with medical networks, hospitals and medical points in the Damascus governorate, and has been providing them with drugs, medical equipment and technical support. Due to significant security risks, MSF staff members have not been able to access the facilities…

MSF can neither scientifically confirm the cause of these symptoms nor establish who is responsible for the attack (chemical weapons),” said Dr. Janssens.

Circling back to Afghanistan – what’s been evidenced by Russia and their kicking of NGOs out their country, and googling domestic opinion of MSF in Assad’s Syria and Afghanistan, there’s a lot of ill will towards western NGO’s for being agents of destabilization.

Understanding MSF is a humanitarian agency, the argument made about their legitimacy, and if that makes them legitimate targets or not, that’s a good question. But like Nanny G said, Afghans did call in the strike. And it was also reported the Afghan army was taking small arms fire from around the facility.

That was a fun dive. G’nite.

@mossomo: Interesting–Thanks

And we do know who is in control of the guns right now.

This just in… the bombing was caused by a video. There, stop talking about it.

As of today, Obama has changed the ”official” story about this incident FOUR TIMES in four days!
