Obama Leaves Another Hot Mess

For eight years, countless liberal Jews and other supporters of Israel have insisted that Obama is resolutely pro-Israel. By refusing to veto the U.N. resolution today, Obama has just thrown all of them under the bus. Elliott Abrams has a more exhaustive take that is very much worth reading. I’ll just focus on a few points of my own.

Unlike his ban on offshore oil drilling or his other regulatory schemes to hamper Donald Trump or pad his legacy, this move doesn’t help Democrats or hurt Donald Trump, but rather the other way around. This move will infuriate many pro-Israel Democratic donors and further cement the view that the Democratic Party, in its heart, is no longer a pro-Israel party. That is a gift to Donald Trump. It may even increase the likelihood that he moves the embassy to Jerusalem.

It is now the official position of the United States of America that the Western Wall and the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians. That is madness.

Moreover, while this move is definitely bad for Israel, it is a gift to Bibi Netanyahu who can now more easily argue to Israelis that the bad relationship with America these last 8 years wasn’t his fault — but Obama’s.

And what, exactly, are the benefits to this move? Surely the Obama administration thinks this will produce some tangible benefit? I’ll leave that to that modern day Metternich Ben Rhodes to explain:

It is time to get the UN out of the USA and the USA out of the UN. There has never been more conclusive proof that obama is a JEW HATING MUSLIM.

Never has there been a more anti-Israel Administration, and today’s United Nations vote is the culmination of their systemic agenda to weaken Israel and strengthen its enemies.

“I agree with the senior Israeli government official who said today:

‘President Obama and Secretary Kerry are behind this shameful move against Israel at the UN….The U.S. administration secretly cooked up with the Palestinians an extreme anti-Israeli resolution behind Israel’s back which would be a tailwind for terror and boycotts.’

“Every Obama foreign policy official should be ashamed of today’s UN resolution, and any official who disagrees with or hopes to avoid the anti-Israel legacy of this Administration should resign on principle today.

“I also emphatically second the call of my colleague Sen. Lindsey Graham that the consequences of this disgraceful UN resolution should be severe. I look forward to working with Sen. Graham, and with the incoming Administration of President-elect Trump, to significantly reduce or even eliminate U.S. funding of the United Nations, and also to seriously reconsider financial support for the nations that supported this resolution. For those who have put your name to this despicable attack on Israel, you did so with full knowledge of the consequences of your actions.

“And for those who acquiesced or facilitated the UN resolution–especially President Obama, Secretary Kerry, and Ambassador Power–history will record your abiding and shameful legacy undermining our friend and ally Israel. I am hopeful at least some Senate Democrats will choose to repudiate your anti-Israel actions, and I am grateful that the new Administration has committed to once again restoring our strong and unequivocal support for the Nation of Israel.”

WH: Obama Has Done More For Israel Than Any Previous U.S. President

Ask any Israeli citizen. They will tell you very bluntly obama has not been a friend to Israel. obama has done more for our enemies and made enemies of our friends. A real piece if shit. We’ll be glad to see him go. And stay out of the public eye. No one wants his lies, lack of leadership, and garbage any more.
