obama can’t find a tie for his eulogy of Scalia

In such matters as the death of a great man, respect matters — especially from our political leaders. Dignity and sober ceremony are called for. These are not trivial requirements, nor are they mere accessories to the event.  They are part of the bedrock of enlightened civilization. Surely when America’s president appeared before the TV cameras Saturday evening to deliver his scripted remarks about the death of a Supreme Court Justice, the great Antonin Scalia, Obama should have taken the trouble to dress at least as well as your average law student applying for a summer job.

Instead, flanked by the flags that signal ceremony, but dressed-down after a day on the golf course, the top button of his shirt undone, Obama appeared without a necktie.

TV commentators, in their instant reaction, focused on Obama’s remarks, which combined a brief eulogy of Scalia with Obama’s marker that — suddenly interested at this late date in the Constitution — he expects to have the pleasure of seeing the Senate confirm whomever he nominates as a replacement, rather than waiting for the next president.

But to my mind, the real statement was Obama’s casual omission of a tie — with the attendant implications of disregard for his own office, for the Supreme Court, for the American people he was addressing, and for the late Justice Scalia, who was extraordinary above all for his dedication to liberty. Which does not figure large on Obama’s agenda.

This was, as Claudia points out, Obama’s equivalent to putting his shoes on the desk made from the wood of the Resolute ship.
He was sticking his middle finger up to the American people as well as to the Scalia family.
But, listen to him carefully.
Our president was either drunk or stoned.
He slurred and mispronounced about 6 different words in that short statement as it came out of TOTUS.
When most powerful men play golf it is an excuse to get together informally with men who can wheel and deal over the afternoon.
Obama golfs with three men he’s known since high (very high) school in HI.
The same three men who he used to teach how to get better highs to with his rolled-up windows in their van.
What good can they do our country?
Absolutely none.
All they can do is enable our president in his bad habits.

I’m hoping that my eulogy is given by a person who doesn’t despise me. Assuming I can find one.

Nanny enough with the feet on the desk Bush had many pics taken with his feet there when you castigate only Obama for doing that it seems as though you are holding him to a higher standard here is a link showing 2 others with their feet up on the same deskhttp://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/photos/desk.asp

@mos 8541:
Cocaine ? And Scalia ?
Well maybe that is why there is not going to be an autopsy. The only rumors I saw were: traveling with an unnamed companion, pillow over his face when they found him, and a possible V*agra overdose, maybe a heart attack from rough sex He was only 72
The pillow on his face doesn’t seem to go with “natural causes” does it ?

The late Judge Scalia was married to the same woman since 1960 he had 9 children, he was 79 years old when he passed.
Repeating unfounded rumors that would dishonor his memory and bring increased heartache to his widow and children shows only extremely poor manners.

@Nanny G: Are you kidding? Powerful men playing golf are looking to get to the 19th hole ASAP while claiming their getting exercise driving their carts from shot to shot.

@Richard Wheeler: Let’s face it RW, you know he was stoned when he gave that speech. I don’t think anyone would logically try to deny that.
