North Korea agrees to ‘complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’ after Trump-Kim summit

Fox News:

President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a document on Tuesday stating that Pyongyang would to work toward “complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula”— a historic concession, which was one of the requirements the U.S. sought at the summit in Singapore.

The historic agreement came after the two leaders held several meetings throughout the day. Trump was asked by a reporter if Kim agreed to denuclearize and he said, “We are starting that process very quickly.”

Trump did not refer to the document as a treaty or agreement. He said there will be a press conference in the next few hours.

“You’ll be seeing everything in a little while,” Trump said, speaking to reporters on Singapore’s Sentosa island. “I think both sides will be impressed with the result.”

The joint declaration states that the U.S. has committed to providing “security guarantees” to Pyongyang.

It’s unclear exactly what Trump has promised Kim in terms of security. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declined to say Monday whether guarantees might include withdrawing U.S. troops from the Korean Peninsula.

@Greg:

I would prefer to dispense with any illusions that North Korea intends to give up its nuclear weapons.

So… what? War? Strike them and take them out? Or, do what everyone in the past has done and try to buy them off which, by the way, hasn’t worked at all.

Trump is left with a very serious problem and all you leftists can think to do is criticize him no matter which way he turns. No doubt, even if he sat on his thumb and fanned his nuts like Obama did, you would criticize THAT, too.

While some of the nation (the loudest, whiniest, crybabies) obstruct everything Trump tries to do to secure peace, adversaries are encouraged to try and wait him out. This endangers world peace. Democrats would rather take the side of any and all of our opponents than support the United States as long as Trump is President.

@Greg: We could just draw redlines we have no intention of doing anything about if they are crossed . Or call him and tell him to “knock it off”. Call him the JV team then wait till he is much more powerful.
Its over, the old letting the US get rolled, is over that would be World wide. We have the most robust economy on the Planet now, The forever gone manufacturing jobs are returning. Pelosi and Shummer will never get our crumbs back to waste. As soon as we get more seats in the mid terms we turn on our own and demand they keep the promises they made, Ryan is out next Turtleman or he better shape up. I would think Cruz or Lee would be great picks to replace Mitch.
Trump goal is 0 tarriffs, none applied on either side anywhere.

“Strike them and take them out” is not a sane option. It isn’t even workable. North Korea is estimated by U.S. intelligence to have between 30 and 60 nuclear weapons. They have proven delivery systems. They could respond to any such attempt by quickly nuking Seoul or Tokyo. From North Korea’s perspective, creating such a military impasse was the entire point of acquiring the damn things to begin with. They won’t surrender what they worked decades to acquire.

That is reality, as opposed to reality television. The fact that we don’t like it doesn’t alter it one bit.

Melania is stunning arriving at the Palace, skip to 24minutes

@Greg: So, aside from what Trump is doing, you have NO option but to blindly criticize anything and everything he does.

Got it.

@Deplorable Me: What else can the left do? They have never had any solutions except go to war! Who started WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam?

@Randy: Well, they could shut the F**K up, get out of the way and allow the adults in the room (since the left failed completely and left a tremendous mess) to handle the situation. THEN discuss the results.

@kitt:Melania Stunning indeed—-DT– Fatter every time I see him—gotta be pushing 250.
Little rocket man still playing games—-would love an invite to Palm Beach..

@Richard Wheeler:

would love an invite to Palm Beach..

If thats what it takes to get peace, a small price to pay dont you think so?

@Deplorable Me, #55:

So, aside from what Trump is doing, you have NO option but to blindly criticize anything and everything he does.

Nobody is “blindly criticizing’ Donald Trump. There are very specific reasons why people are criticizing this idiot.

Look at the title of this thread: “North Korea agrees to ‘complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’ after Trump-Kim summit.” That’s a lie. No such thing is happening. No such thing is going to happen. Kim Jong-un cannot be trusted, any more than Vladimir Putin can be trusted. What they both want runs counter to the best interests of the United States and our allies. Accepting that obvious fact is the first step in dealing with them effectively. It’s a serious mistake to give them something without getting something in return.

If we base our actions as a nation on politically useful lies rather than on a clear understanding of the reality that actually exists, there will be very real hell to pay.

@kitt: The last thing the left wants is peace if Trump receives any credit for it. They prefer war, fighting, death, murder, rape and tension because they can make better use of all that politically.

@Greg:

Nobody is “blindly criticizing’ Donald Trump. There are very specific reasons why people are criticizing this idiot.

… he said in blind, hateful criticism.

Look at the title of this thread: “North Korea agrees to ‘complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’ after Trump-Kim summit.” That’s a lie. No such thing is happening.

That’s exactly what they agreed to. It’s what the entire meeting was based on. Un committed to it BEFORE he even met with Trump. YOU are lying.

Kim Jong-un cannot be trusted, any more than Vladimir Putin can be trusted.

So…. what do YOU suggest? Stop talking? Stop trying? WAR? Pallets of cash? Apologies? Red lines? Begging? Being more flexible?

Blind, hateful criticism.

That’s exactly what they agreed to. It’s what the entire meeting was based on. Un committed to it BEFORE he even met with Trump. YOU are lying.

Shall we go over a checklist of the promises that Adolf Hitler broke before he burned down half of the civilized world? It might be an instructive exercise.

It took North Korea 60 years of focused effort to acquire their nuclear weapons. Whatever they say, they are not going to give them away—especially with this president on the scene. I know this because I am not frickin’ stupid.

So…. what do YOU suggest? Stop talking? Stop trying? WAR? Pallets of cash? Apologies? Red lines? Begging? Being more flexible?

I suggest we stop talking about war as some sort of solution to the problem, because it isn’t. I suggest we stop lying about North Korea’s claim that they’ll give up their nukes, because they won’t. Any effective strategy will have to take those two factors into account. We will have to be more flexible. So will they. I think we might get there over a decade or two by taking one small step at a time. There will be no successful grandstand play. If we’re careful, we may avoid any monumental mistake. That’s the pragmatic approach. Don’t blow up southeast Asia, and slowly work to make things better.

@Greg:

Shall we go over a checklist of the promises that Adolf Hitler broke before he burned down half of the civilized world? It might be an instructive exercise.

No, but we can agree that you are wrong and N. Korea DID sign an agreement committing them to denuclearization. Correct?

Yes, Hitler lied and went on to start a World War. How? Because he was only confronted by weak, frightened, naive diplomats who would do anything to avoid war and he had them sized up perfectly. Does Trump strike you as someone that is not going to take action? A few months ago you were accusing him of leading us into another World War… now he is getting fooled by Un (who has been FORCED into coming to the table to talk).

Whatever comes of the talks, it is but a step in the process… either towards peace or war. You liberals seem committed to war, just to try and make Trump look bad. How stupid of you.

No, but we can agree that you are wrong and N. Korea DID sign an agreement committing them to denuclearization. Correct?

Sure. And I once had a Secret Squadron identification card signed by Captain Midnight. It was a piece of paper.

@Greg: Cool a Secret Squadron identification card why did you swap it for a communist party card, from stomping out evil in the world to promoting it?

@kitt:Next he might ask for a state dinner at WH with a big bear hug from Melania—-then maybe little rocket man play time with Baron
He’s a con man–er kid– like his daddy

@Richard Wheeler: Dont think he will get his chubby cheeks near our sweet Melania. He barely is as high as her stilettos. I know what he is, but if a bit of wine and dine keeps him from blasting Japan or SK might get some technology to the farmers to feed the poor of that country. Let him see what a little capitolism can do for is country. But just forking over american Tax dollars for nuthin is stoopid, every single President that did it was a moron.

@Greg:

I suggest we stop talking about war as some sort of solution to the problem, because it isn’t.

Yes, war is a LARGE PART of the solution for without the THREAT of war, there will be no solution that doesn’t include being held hostage to N. Korean nukes.

I suggest we stop lying about North Korea’s claim that they’ll give up their nukes, because they won’t. Any effective strategy will have to take those two factors into account.

Any effective LIBERAL strategy… AKA “surrender”, or “give up and pay up.” You leftists, being unfamiliar with standing up for the country, leadership or success want to find a way to buy your way out… with taxpayer money, of course. That hasn’t been working.

Sure. And I once had a Secret Squadron identification card signed by Captain Midnight. It was a piece of paper.

But there IS an agreement signed by Un, right? There IS a signed agreement to denuclearize. You denied there was one. No one else has gotten that.

I think there is a power struggle in N. Korea. I think Un wants peace and the military wants HIM out. But, I could be wrong and we will see. This is a speculation.

@kitt: That’s also where he gets his directions of who to vote for, what to believe and what to say.

July 30, 2018 — U.S. spy agencies: North Korea is working on new missiles

U.S. spy agencies are seeing signs that North Korea is constructing new missiles at a factory that produced the country’s first intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States, according to officials familiar with the intelligence.

Newly obtained evidence, including satellite photos taken in recent weeks, indicates that work is underway on at least one and possibly two liquid-fueled ICBMs at a large research facility in Sanumdong, on the outskirts of Pyongyang, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe classified intelligence.

The findings are the latest to show ongoing activity inside North Korea’s nuclear and missile facilities at a time when the country’s leaders are engaged in arms talks with the United States. The new intelligence does not suggest an expansion of North Korea’s capabilities but shows that work on advanced weapons is continuing weeks after President Trump declared in a Twitter posting that Pyongyang was “no longer a Nuclear Threat.”

The reports about new missile construction come after recent revelations about a suspected uranium-enrichment facility, called Kangson, that North Korea is operating in secret. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo acknowledged during Senate testimony last week that North Korean factories “continue to produce fissile material” used in making nuclear weapons. He declined to say whether Pyongyang is building new missiles.

No one should be surprised. We have a reality TV host as President, and a State Department that has been methodically stripped of most experience and expertise. We essentially have no coherent foreign policy. Anyone who disputes that assertion might want to sum up what they believe it to be in a couple of concise paragraphs.

@Greg: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/08/01/north-korea-returned-1-dog-tag-with-55-sets-soldier-remains-us-official-says.html

We’ve lifted no sanctions and paid N. Korea no pallets of cash.

Of course, we are dealing with a communist regime, so any time one deals with the left, one should expect to be lied to and misled. But, Trump is not some community organizer throwing slogans at the opposition; he is a leader and a negotiator. If results can be achieved through peaceful means, he is the best chance we have had.

@Deplorable Me, #71:

We’ve lifted no sanctions and paid N. Korea no pallets of cash.

U.S. military readiness exercises with South Korea were officially cancelled, without the bother of first discussing this with either South Korea or Japan. That’s a notable achievement for Kim Jong-un, who’s apparently still busily pursuing his nuclear warhead and ICBM program, and a slap in the faces of our two regional allies.

We’re also about to slap more tariffs on China in Trump’s escalating trade war. Maybe they’ll help us pressure North Korea in spite of that—or maybe they won’t, realizing that such cooperation could be used as a bargaining chip. They already hold $1.18 trillion in U.S. debt, so that’s one more high-value card they could play.

@Greg: Well, take heart. We have a true leader and strong negotiator at the helm, not a limp dishcloth that would give anything and everything away for some headlines to fill out his “legacy”.

@Greg: We dont need China they are only really consumers of raw products. With decent deals where people make real wages, the EU, we consume our own raw products through to finished cutting out the middleman that make crap out of good raw material while polluting like crazy.
I know you wont see the upside. China will come to the table.

@kitt: Trump is getting the EU to take the soybeans China won’t. Zing.

We dont need China they are only really consumers of raw products.

They are the suppliers of most of the inexpensive goods working American families have come to depend on—thanks to the corporations that have off-shored production to boost profits and line their own pockets and those of their shareholders. These would be the same corporations that have just had their tax rate permanently reduced from 35 percent to 21 percent.

@Deplorable Me: hina after Trump ups the tariffs to 25 % from 10

@Greg:

They are the suppliers of most of the inexpensive goods working American families have come to depend on

Thanks to the tariffs on American goods, unions and the regulations on production here at home, American made products have been put out of reach of the marketplace, even though they are more often superior. Trump is addressing all of that.

I hope the remains N. Korea have returned can be identified soon enough for them to vote Democrat in the 2018 elections.

@kitt: Indeed, the world has encountered a new kind of leader; one that is less interested in personal prestige than in solving problems.

Thanks to the tariffs on American goods, unions and the regulations on production here at home, American made products have been put out of reach of the marketplace, even though they are more often superior. Trump is addressing all of that.

All of the factors you condemn existed during America’s longest, greatest, and most inclusive period of prosperity—in addition to a more progressive tax rate schedule.

Trump is addressing a panel of long-established buttons that he needs to push in order to manipulate his reality television audience.

November 7, 2019 – North Korea’s U.N. envoy says denuclearization off negotiating table with United States

At least we finally got an honest statement from them.
