John, honestly do you even realize how hypocritical and thoughtless your positions are? Conservatives are very supportive of personal charity, but we are not at all interested in some government hack manipulating people into feeling so guilty that they give up their hard earned incomes for a government bureaucrat to steal money from us, siphon off graft for themselves, then dispense pennies on the dollar to buy the votes of the uneducated, the lazy, the greedy, and the irresponsible. The multiple Obama and Biden vacations during a period when White House tours have been cancelled because of the sequestration budget cuts comes glaringly to mind.
Catholic Charities does phenomenal work helping people in need, providing clothing, food, and yes, the large Catholic hospital system in this country. Other religious groups do the same. Yet obamacare supporting thugs are insisting that Catholic and other religious hospitals be required to violate their Constitutionally protected religious beliefs and perform abortions. There are certain totalitarian medical cabals that are openly discussing forcing all obstetricians to perform abortions, regardless of the personal beliefs of the obstetricians regarding abortions.
Just because you have misplaced guilt about the fact that there are people living in poverty does not mean you nor any politician has the right to demand that everyone else cough up money for the government to sanction personal irresponsibility. If you really want to do something about people living in poverty, John, then you can donate as much of YOUR money and time to private charities as you feel is necessary. How arrogant of you to assume that resistance to outrageous, wasteful taxation is the same as being uncaring about the poor.
I donate services to poor parents who have no insurance to pay for simple procedures like infant circumcisions all the time. I call in prescriptions for parents and children without charging for office visits or my time involved in examining the patient for simple things that would otherwise cost them a couple hundred dollars for an office visit. And I don’t deduct those expenses from my income taxes either. I am not applying for sainthood in telling you this. The point is that I make the personal CHOICE to help these people with something they need as an act of charity. Obviously I cannot do this for every patient, and when they are wearing $150 tennis shoes and talking on the latest iPhone, they don’t need the charity. But a struggling couple out of work or a single mother trying to do the right thing…yeah, I do what I can to help. So do lots of other doctors…and so do lots of conservatives, both religious and secular, without some deceptive government bureaucrat stealing from them to do it.
So tell us, John. How is killing what you seem to believe is a mere inconvenience morally superior to opposing what I believe to be wasteful government spending on failed bureaucratic welfare programs that do nothing but make people dependent upon government largesse?
