A doctor in Los Angeles is reporting remarkable success in treating COVID-19 patients with a combination of zinc and the Trump-touted anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine.
Dr. Anthony Cardillo, an ER specialist and the CEO of Mend Urgent Care, has been prescribing the combination of drugs to patients experiencing severe symptoms of the disease after contracting the novel coronavirus.
“Every patient I’ve prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free,” Cardillo said in an interview Sunday with KABC-TV. “So, clinically I am seeing a resolution.”
He added that combining the drug with zinc has been the key to the success. The hydroxychloroquine, he said, “opens the zinc channel” allowing the zinc to enter the cell, which then “blocks the replication of cellular machinery.”
Cardillo was careful to note that the drug should only be prescribed for patients who are extremely sick and in urgent need so as to not blow through the limited supply of the drug, which is used to treat other illnesses, as well.
“We have to be cautious and mindful that we don’t prescribe it for patients who have COVID who are well,” he said. “It should be reserved for people who are really sick, in the hospital or at home very sick, who need that medication. Otherwise we’re going to blow through our supply for patients that take it regularly for other disease processes.”
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration fast-tracked hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19 late last month after three separate studies showed the pair of anti-malaria drugs to be a potentially promising remedy against the infectious disease.
@Greg: Actually greggie, I am older than you. I have ben in a shooting war. I ask the question because if you had been in a real situation where you had to depend on others to stay alive with your current ideology, you likely would not be writing here.
That’s a standard ad hominem attack. They tend to be evasions of whatever is under discussion.
My own political views are mostly shared by my remaining friends from Vietnam. My personal count of those is now down to two. The best guess by the American War Library is that only around 1/3 of us remain alive at this point. I went to Vietnam when I was 19 years old. That was half-a-century ago. I’ve talked to young people who don’t have a clue about that era. There was a deep political division then, too. People on both sides of that divide were sent to and served in Vietnam. Fifty years later, the war makes no more sense to me than it did then. We got sucked, a little bit at a time, until it was very hard to get out even when we recognized the pointlessness of it all. This was no war to liberate Europe and save Western Civilization from the lunacy of Adolf Hitler, though it ran on the patriotic feelings and sense of mission that we still had from those days. It was an error. The only thing that mattered in the end was loyalty to our fellow soldiers. Fifty years later, that can still bring a tear to my eye. The effects the war had on everyone who was there were permanent. We all have scars, outside where they show or inside where they don’t.
That’s what I can tell you about Vietnam. It’s all I usually care to say. The rest is just a collection of small personal details and experiences, some good and some bad, like old ribbons and medals kept in a drawer or cigar box.
@Randy: While our Governor shut down fabric and hobby shops where you can get supplies to sew your own PPE, and were sewing them for hospitals, our Senator Tammy B. writes to the President to provide PPE for ordinary citizens, the demands never cease or become reasonable. She needs to write to Evers and ask him to open our resources to elastic and cloth. Let groups of citizens sit 6 feet apart and assembly line style make these reuseable needed items.
As more and more of these success stories with HDC come out the more strident the left becomes about not quarantine of ill people, needed but the healthy too , tyranny.
@Greg:
It is if your out of reason “restrictions” deny citizens their First and Second Amendment rights. Shutting down houses of worship, or giving drive-in church goes tickets for fines of $500..00 is unconstitutional all the while pot houses and abortion clinics are free to continue to conduct business.
You need to read the U.S. Constitution. No where is there an asterisk that says “except in the case of a pandemic.”
What a pathetic little weasel you are. From your posts just today, it seems you have spent your whole life in fear. How sad. If you are so worried about the use of fossil fuels, why do you spend so much time on your computer?
@Greg: And now greggie, you are just like Biden. You missed the point of my comments. With your current ideology and allowing your ideology to deprive others of their Constitutional rights, you are lucky you survived this long. I doubt 1/3 of the Vietnam veterans adhere to you ideology. All of them I know still carry the flag and are patriots. They are concerned about the US and the direction. Pot smokers and drug users excepted. Your life views area as skewed as Bidens.
News flash: Respecting the flag and being patriot are not incompatible with reaching the conclusion that Donald Trump is a dangerous nincompoop.
Maybe he should start holding free stadium-size anti-coronavirus rallies. Attendees could all be given complimentary MAGA masks.
Wow a line to get in would be 35 miles long! Trump has no time to rally he is way too busy. The masks as a fund raiser a very good idea coordinate with the hat & little individual packets of hand sanitzer wipes. All available to order from the RNC website. You are genius.
@Greg: @kitt: See, greggie is exhibiting Biden characteristics. Too much dope in Vietnam or current location. Dementia!
April 21, 2020 – More Deaths, No Benefit From Malaria Drug in VA Virus Study
@Greg: Not a rigorous study not even tracking side effects, not even worth mentioning.
Doctors using HDC were to report to the CDC where are those numbers? It is just as scientific as the Veterans admin that had a “reputation, mostly handing out opiates like candy and never treating the source of injuries”. A 22% death rate seems much much higher than average.
The article linked says nothing of ages, underlying conditions, dosage ect ect ect.
Source NBC (Nothing But Crap)
Thanks anyway brother.
@kitt:
Comrade Greggie doesn’t give a tinker’s damn about those vets. He just desparately wants to show that hydroxycholoquine doesn’t work because OrangeManBad.
One of Comrade Greggie’s favorite places to link, NPR, did a story on a man I know well, Dr. Robin Armstrong. He treated the residents of a senior center with hydroxycholoroquine and had NO DEATHS in those residents who are at highest risk. NPR went after him with a vengeance. Why? Oh, yeah, Dr. Armstrong is a RNC Committeeman. See, Comrade Greggie would prefer that Dr. Armstrong just let those seniors die because…………………………OrangeManBad. Never mind that NPR, that loves to play the race card, had no problems smearing a BLACK doctor.
Of all the people that have ever showed up on this site, Comrade Greggie has to be one of the most vile.
@kitt: @retire05: Both of you are right. Who can take the word of a Veteran Administration study. They let people die before they see them!
@Randy: The President did allow vets to sek doctors ouside the VA and good thing to.

Looks like a great place for a few FEMA trailers
Trump didn’t promote hydroxychloroquine repeatedly because it has been demonstrated to be a safe and effective treatment for COVID-19 illness.
He has repeatedly promoted it without any solid evidence of that because belief that there’s an effective treatment in hand makes it easier to convince people to gamble on an early reopening of the U.S. economy. He may have convinced himself before setting out to convince others, but the evidence isn’t there.
@Greg: Do you think its the only drug that is in trials? We could do without the 2 doctors that shut the economy down, we need 5 to begin trials on effective treatments before the Congress spends us into Venezuela by printing fake money. States wanting bail outs screw them and spending and taxing like drunkards let them trim fat keep the damn schools closed and sell the buildings fire the teachers. We now know they are nonessential.
@Greg:
He didn’t “promote” the drug. He reported that it was being used showing good results. Why do you have to lie?
Name the doctors, btw who are working their asses off to save lives, that used hydroxycholoroquine because of Trump. Name those doctors, you lying POS.
@Greg: Just anecdotal.
@retire05: Well, the Democrats do believe death, misery and tragedy are their allies.
