Hollywood’s Selective Bully Hatred — Watch Meryl Streep and Friends Applaud a Child Rapist

David French:

Last night Meryl Streep went hard after Donald Trump for mocking a disabled reporter (Trump strongly denies he mocks the man’s disability, but no one doubts he was insulting). In doing so, she eloquently stated the moral imperative that the strong not prey on the weak:

But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh, and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.

Remember those words as you watch this video, now racing around the internet:

Yes, that’s Streep standing and applauding at the 1:10 mark. For those who don’t remember, Roman Polanski pled guilty to statutory rape and admitted in open court to having sex with his victim when he knew she was only 13 years old. Polanski was 43. In so doing, he avoided trial on a number of more serious charges. His victim’s grand jury testimony was chilling:

And its these same Hollywood bunch who have been big time supporters of cop killer Abdul Jimar and the infamous Leorard Pelter who both should have been strapped into old sparky and fried until they sizzled Hollywoods become a vile place not what it was anymore in the better days

Roman Polanski is a rapist and hiding in Europe-sweet so the snowflakes of ollywood support rapists, drug users, alcoholics, rapist, physical abusers -oh sorry that is all of ollywook.
forgot how many time was Meryl was in rehab

Liberals never met a liberal rapist they didn’t like.

You do understand that Roman Polanski’s 2003 lifetime achievement award was for the films he made, rather than for a statutory rape that occurred some 26 years earlier, don’t you?

I can certainly understand holding that against Polanski for decades, but holding it against Meryl Streep, who didn’t have a damn thing to do with it, is just typical right-wing stupidity and vindictiveness.

You just don’t like what Streep said about Donald Trump—all of which is honest option, well-stated. A lot of people don’t like what Donald Trump says, with far better reason.

Meanwhile, way back in October 2016:

SESSIONS: This was very improper language, and he’s acknowledged that.

TWS: But beyond the language, would you characterize the behavior described in that [video] as sexual assault if that behavior actually took place?

SESSIONS: I don’t characterize that as sexual assault. I think that’s a stretch. I don’t know what he meant—

TWS: So if you grab a woman by the genitals, that’s not sexual assault?

SESSIONS: I don’t know. It’s not clear that he—how that would occur.

That would be Jeff Sessions, Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, who apparently doesn’t know his butt from a barn door when it comes to the matter of sexual assault. Ask any woman if she believes such behavior constitutes sexual assault.

@Greg: Ohhh… so RAPE several years back is no big deal, but naughty words are a hanging offense?? Apparently so, since Sessions, who PROSECUTED the Klan is being raked over the coals for a joke… A JOKE he cracked 20 years ago (and it was funny, too, if you are not some vindictive, hateful liberal). Of course, you liberals still worship Ted Kennedy, who let his mistress drown while he scurried to safety to get his stories straight.

Oh, and Trump never grabbed anyone (unlike Bill Clinton, another sexual abusing liberal god). He just stated a powerful man could probably grab whatever he wanted (like Bill DID). Which is, of course, a fact.

Yeah, Greg. It was just rape. What’s that compared to making a movie?

Roman Polanski has nothing whatsoever to do with Meryl Streep’s observation that Trump is an appalling choice for President.

A difficult point for the propaganda-addled right-wing brain to take in, I know. Logical thought and the political right parted company long ago—probably sometime around the demise of William F Buckley, Jr.

@Greg: But here comments have everything to do with liberal hypocrisy. See, a liberal can commit any crime. ANY. Liberals don’t care. They simply have to support liberals to maintain a unity which tries to cover up the failures.

Polanski rapes a 13 year old. So? He’s a liberal.

Teddy drowns his mistress. So? He’s a liberal.

Bubba rapes and sexually assaults multiple women. So? He’s a liberal.

Al Sharpton dodges his taxes and incites racial violence. So? He’s a liberal.

Hillary gets Americans needlessly killed, compromised national security and lies, repeatedly, to Congress. So? She’s a liberal.

See the pattern?

Obama was an ignorant choice for President which turned into an abysmal and disastrous choice. Trump offers every possibility of being enormously successful, which will irk Democrats even more, for it will, again, further expose liberal failure.

So, why is it that liberals feel qualified to judge anyone else, particularly when they use bold-face lies to base that judgement on?
