FLASHBACK Jan. 14: WHO Tells Everyone Don’t Worry Because China Says Coronavirus Isn’t Contagious

The World Health Organization (WHO) tried to cam fears of a pandemic on Jan. 14 by repeating China’s claim that coronavirus was not contagious among humans.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China,” the WHO tweeted.

Just 60 days later, the global death toll from coronavirus had topped 8000 and continued to climb. Over 200,000 cases had been documented in 145 countries.

But the virus’ means of transmission was far from the only misinformation coming from Chinese officials.

Beijing reported that the first known cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded in mid-December — but later reporting from outside sources suggested that the earliest cases were tracked in November and kept under wraps.

In addition, Caixin Global reported that Chinese officials had identified the virus as early as mid-December — but were instructed to destroy both their test results and their samples.

The UK Times reported:

@Greg: I believe he TOLD people the truth; there was a virus spreading in China for which there was no treatment or vaccine and little was know about its effects, so travel from China was cut off. You Democrats called it “racist”. Perhaps if you got information from somewhere besides CNN or MSNBC you would not be missing so many details.

Panic was caused by the left by them declaring, no matter what Trump did or said, that he was incompetent, that he had no experts, that he would not listen to his experts (that he didn’t have), that he was lying and many, many, many things he never even said. This leaves the impression that the virus is going to spread out of control with no abatement, which is ABSOLUTELY not the case. Yes, indeed, the left drove the fear and panic. Maybe they were too stupid to understand the consequences, but I happen to believe they had a definite intention of creating fear and panic and blame Trump for the consequences.

@Deplorable Me, #51:

You Democrats called it “racist”

Perhaps some democrats did, though I don’t recall hearing that anywhere myself. If some did, that doesn’t make it the official Democratic position. Neither does your claim that it is.

Straight pandemic information with no political spin:

EarthSky’s essential coronavirus links for March 15-19

@Greg:Well, it WAS (is) the official Democrat position. Leadership and all your Democrat media sang the same tune. Here’s you Democrats doing more of what you do best… be miserable, disgusting worms.

CNN & MSNBC Commentator Literally Calls for Melania To Be Infected with Coronavirus

The Federalist Papers article is “literally” full of it. Rick Wilson is a former republican political strategist. That hardly makes him a spokesman for the Democratic Party. Nor do I see where this former republican actually said what they’re claiming he “literally” said. They should buy themselves a dictionary and look up the word.

@Greg: Fess up greggie! Your resisters stepped on it! Have some honor! Admit the truth for just once!

@Greg: Actually, it does. Democrats and Never Trumpers are in the same herd. It is an anti-Trump mentality that breeds this filth. Again, notice the absence of this from the right during Obama’s epidemics.

@Greg:

Perhaps some democrats did, though I don’t recall hearing that anywhere myself.

On January 31, 2020 Joe Biden accused President Trump of “hysterical xenophobia.”

And Susan Rice (yeah, THAT Susan Rice) accused Trump of “racist” accusations.

I call b/s on your claim you did not hear that.

@Greg:

As a propagandist, you’re overpaid, no matter how much you are getting.

Comrade Greggie, you’re an idiot.

@retire05, #57:

Biden, on coronavirus.

@retire05, #58:

Your link doesn’t work, genius. Don’t blame democrats for the behavior of a republican apostate. The fact that Rick Wilson hates Donald Trump doesn’t make him a spokesman for the Democratic Party. A lot of republicans hate Donald Trump.

@Greg: Biden called Trump a xenophobe and accused him of fear mongering for the travel ban to and from China.
Yet you say he downplayed the whole thing, which is it?

March 19, 2020 – GOP senators sold off their stocks ahead of coronavirus economic crash, reports say

WASHINGTON —Two reports on Thursday revealed that Republican Sens. Richard Burr, N.C., and Kelly Loeffler, Ga., sold off significant amounts in stocks shortly before financial markets plunged because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The senators are reported to have had knowledge about the spread of coronavirus ahead of their sales.

ProPublica reported that Burr, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, dumped somewhere between $628,000 and $1.72 million of stocks, much of which came from the hospitality industry. The sales were made in 33 separate transactions on Feb. 13. Records of the transactions are available through the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Just days before, Burr penned a Fox News op-ed with Sen. Lamar Alexander, writing that the country was “better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats.”

And, according to NPR’s Thursday reporting, a couple weeks later, on Feb. 27, Burr informed a gathering at a luncheon that the coronavirus is “much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history,” at a time when President Donald Trump was still responding to the disease’s spread in what some have described as an overly optimistic manner.

March 20, 2020 – Sen. Kelly Loeffler Dumped Millions in Stock After Coronavirus Briefing

The Senate’s newest member sold off seven figures’ worth of stock holdings in the days and weeks after a private, all-senators meeting on the novel coronavirus that subsequently hammered U.S. equities.

Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) reported the first sale of stock jointly owned by her and her husband on Jan. 24, the very day that her committee, the Senate Health Committee, hosted a private, all-senators briefing from administration officials, including the CDC director and Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, on the coronavirus.

“Appreciate today’s briefing from the President’s top health officials on the novel coronavirus outbreak,” she tweeted about the briefing at the time.

That first transaction was a sale of stock in the company Resideo Technologies worth between $50,001 and $100,000. The company’s stock price has fallen by more than half since then, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average overall has shed approximately 10,000 points, dropping about a third of its value.

It was the first of 29 stock transactions that Loeffler and her husband made through mid-February, all but two of which were sales. One of Loeffler’s two purchases was stock worth between $100,000 and $250,000 in Citrix, a technology company that offers teleworking software and which has seen a small bump in its stock price since Loeffler bought in as a result of coronavirus-induced market turmoil.

Loeffler’s office did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast on the transactions and whether they were prompted or informed by information shared at that late January briefing. It’s illegal for members of Congress to trade on non-public information gleaned through their official duties.

Late Thursday night, she did offer a statement, tweeting: “This is a ridiculous and baseless attack. I do not make investment decisions for my portfolio. Investment decisions are made by multiple third-party advisors without my or my husband’s knowledge or involvement.

At least a million dollars worth of stocks were sold over a couple of weeks by their financial advisors without first consulting their clients? Sounds odd, but maybe that’s entirely normal. I wouldn’t know.

@Greg: Insider trading is common with the congress and they themselves are exempt from these laws, they also seem to have family get government contracts Liz Warren and Pelosi are two of the worst offenders.
Futures are mixed for tomorrow so its a we will see. The amount of money these insiders traded had little effect on the market. I read the article in my preferred propaganda too. Blind trusts, my aunt Fannys broom.

insider trading is legal for congressmen647

Why do you think the all become millionaires?

@Greg: Except anytime one of these Never Trumpers speak out against something Trump does, all you Democrats point to their statements as Republicans that and the voice of common sense and rationality. You ACCEPT these people as YOUR voice. They are all YOUR herd.

Um… you forgot to assail Diane Feinstein; SHE dumped stocks, too. But, no one is surprised by her actions.
