Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris Back Reparations for Blacks

Loading

Wow.

Meanwhile, the NeverTrumpers scheme about how to put a Democrat in the White House. To teach us a lesson.

(That lesson is, “Never trust us nor ally yourselves with us ever again.” A lesson we’ve already fully internalized, Ladies.)

From the very first day of the 2020 presidential race, when Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts blamed “generations of discrimination” for black families earning far less than white households, Democratic hopefuls have broadly emphasized racial justice and closing the wealth gap in their policy platforms.

But in recent weeks, some candidates have started embracing specific goals and overtly race-conscious legislation that even the most left-wing elected officials stayed away from in recent years.

Last week, Senator Kamala Harris of California agreed with a radio host’s recent suggestion that government reparations for black Americans were necessary to address the legacies of slavery and discrimination. Ms. Harris later affirmed that support in a statement to The Times.

“We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities,” she said. “I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities.”

Ms. Warren also said she supported reparations for black Americans impacted by slavery — a policy that experts say could cost several trillion dollars, and one that Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and many top Democrats have not supported.

Isn’t that something.

Does Warren identify as a former slave now? Few scenes are more stomach-turning than liberals trying to out-pander each other.

I find reparations an interesting topic. Who pays? Everyone? Anyone with ancestors that owned slaves? Whites? Democrats?

When you look at the people trying to get to the United States that suffer financial status similar to that of the slaves (we are led to believe) that are clamoring to get HERE, maybe we should call it even?

I know one thing; I don’t owe a damn dime.

Count me out, I’m an immigrant from Canada, ancestry is poor farmers in England and Scotland. I’ve had to work for everything I have.

Seems someone should tell them about Liberia.
From 1821, thousands of free black Americans moved to Liberia from the United States. Over twenty years, the colony continued to grow and establish economic stability. In 1847, the legislature of Liberia declared the nation an independent state.

@Mike C: Well, you aren’t the only person that has immigrated since the end of slavery and therein is but one of the more ridiculous aspects of the concept of reparations. If you pay income taxes, YOU’LL pay, too. My family comes from Indiana and Kentucky and were more likely to BE slaves than own them, but so would I be on the hook for reparations.

Thus is the concept of “justice” in the liberal mind.

Fortunately, neither Warren nor Harris will EVER be president of the United States. That must be obvious to people who are otherwise voicing their alarm over the idea of reparations, and some small comfort. Sadly, the suggestion of “reparations” is just one more instance of the perennial effort to buy the votes of people who in the infancy of our Republic would not have had the right to vote in the first place. Not every result of our Constitutional Amendments is positive.

@Mike C: Sorry Mike if you are free, white and over 21 you owe the world a living. The best we can get is to be a free range tax payer.
Lets look at a few what ifs
Do they get less if they have collected any form welfare?
Do I pay less if an ancestor died trying to gain their freedom?
Do they get less if they have taken advantage of forced diversity?
How about we just set them all free in Africa? We can do a DNA test to make sure they get back to the correct region.
Yup the whole thing is damned ridiculous from the concept up.

@kitt:

Whoohoo, restorations.

Let’s see, I’ll take a nice 1,000 acre spot, with historic home, of course, in the Piedmont of the Carolinas and Georgia. No taxes required. Or, if not available, the corner of Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. So what if your ancestors have lived there for 150 years and were brought there against their will. Mine lived there longer and were removed against their will.

:

I KNEW you were over 150!
What I DIDN’T know was that you are related to Elizabeth Warren. That’s a squaw’s feather in your cap!

By the way, they’re talking about “reparations,” not “restorations.”
When you are 150 years old, you might want to have your face “restored,” but if you receive “reparations,” you probably could afford the work.

@George Wells:

Who says queers can’t be hateful?

:

Not me.

@retire05: By the time you get through every one even a drop of blood gets some theres only a postage stamp size left.
I dont get anything from anyone my people were the reason they built castles to keep my kind out.

I say they get their reparations from West African Muslims. They started it.

@Despicable me:

No. No reparations. Sue for damages when the guilty party is around to pay for those damages. After that… 200+ years after that, your legal remedy has expired. The matter of your racial predicament is a matter of ancient history and your personal predicament is your own responsibility. Better yourself or not – it’s your choice, not mine.
