DeSantis Signs Bill Requiring Students to Learn About the Evils of Totalitarianism and Communism

DeSantis said this about the bill:

“The bill also expands our previous efforts in civics to add a requirement for the high school government class that students receive instruction on the evils of communism and totalitarian etiologies. We have a number of people in Florida, particularly southern Florida, who’ve escaped totalitarian regimes, who’ve escaped communist dictatorships to be able to come to America.
 
We want all students to understand the difference, why would somebody flee across shark infested waters say, leaving from Cuba to come to southern Florida? Why would somebody leave a place like Vietnam? Why would people leave these countries and risk their life to be able to come here? It’s important that students understand that. Now as part of this bill, Florida will create a ‘Portraits in Patriotism’ library so students can learn about real patriots who came to this country after seeing the horrors of these communist regimes.”

DeSantis signed three bills, one which requires schools to focus on the Bill of Rights using personal stories of those who fled communism to illustrate the need for human rights. Another creates a standard of civics education.

The third bill requires colleges to annually assess the freedom of speech on their campuses, to make certain that ideas can be shared and are not censored.

The typical “True Conservatives” will whine some pseudolibertarian horseshit about teachers’ rights to indoctrinate our children being inviolable, and claiming that the state should not interfere with curricula.

Notice this pseudolibertarian urge is never around when leftwing bureaucrats are imposing socialist, racist indoctrination on children.

Also notice that while defenders of CRT like David French and other “True Conservatives” insist that children — especially white ones — be taught and re-taught and over-taught the historical evils of whites, they suddenly lose their zeal for teaching about historical evils when it comes to the historical evils of their new bestest friends on the socialist left.
