While January 2021 will go down in the ratings record books for CNN, the last week of the month may offer a portent of what the post-Trump era will be like for the network.
In the first week of the Biden administration, the AT&T-owned news channel saw the audiences that had been flooding into primetime recently drop precipitously on Jan. 25-29 compared with the highs of previous weeks. Meanwhile, rival Fox News Channel saw its own ratings only dip slightly after weeks of registering its own sharp declines.
Another network that has been characterized as left-leaning, MSNBC, has also seen significant declines but nowhere near as steep as what has hit CNN…

While it’s too early to conclude any longer-term direction for news ratings after just one week, the downturn could be interpreted as an indicator of what many industry observers had anticipated: With Biden in the White House, networks that have spent the last four years railing consistently against Trump have lost the main attraction that energized their audience bases, making it difficult to hold onto the elevated viewing levels.
Alas, this means that Fox will just assume that its mad dash to the left, its headlong Extreme Makeover into CNN-with-country-music, did not cause its own ratings fall. They’ll revert to their previous assumption: That the dramatic fall in ratings was just a natural consequence of a demoralized audience, so they don’t have to change anything.

Tucker Carlson had a good formulation about this: For five years, the “news” organizations’ business model has simply been to gin up mass-hatred for Trump, and then get ratings by pandering to the hatred they’d created.
But Trump’s gone now.
And yet, CNN and MSNBC and the networks still need ratings.
So now they’re hunting anyone who supported Trump. That will be their next Ratings Generator.
As Carlson says, “Now that Trump’s gone, you get to be Trump.”

Unlike CNN and MSNBC, Fox has not yet turned to the 24/7 syrup-fest coverage of the idiot Biden and his whore-helper. I guess most people, fearing massive tooth decay and diabetes, are avoiding the over-sweetened coverage of the most popular president* in history that needs to turn DC into an armed redoubt to keep his adoring masses from overrunning him.
Everyone knows what a total moron this guy is and that he never actually won an election. He sickens most and is simply uninteresting to the rest, who voted to oust the propaganda caricature of Trump, not for the most racist, corrupt dipshit to have ever run for the office. The end of their jobs and livelihoods will come as a complete shock to them when it happens, like the union pipe-fitters felt.
Could it be they pulled out of airports, I cant see anyone watching CNN unless the battery was dead on both phone and laptop and stuck in a 6 hour layover with less than 5 bucks in your pocket.

Overall, the ratings of all cable news networks have been declining. The reason isn’t hard to figure out. The election and post election controversy is over. No one is tuning in to see what Trump is going to say or do next because it’s no longer relevant.

More people are realizing that right-leaning media outlets have become toxic. Right-wing media got caught up in its own negative feedback loop and lost sight of how hostile and crazy they were becoming. Becoming apologists for and advocates of Trump’s incessant b.s. is what pushed them over the edge. They let themselves be turned into a Mr. Microphone for Trump’s COVID-19 nonsense and election fraud lies, and then suddenly found themselves covering a violent pro-Trump mob beating police and smashing doors and windows as they invaded the Capitol while the COVID-19 body count simultaneously topped 400 thousand. For a lot of people, that was a moment of epiphany.
On another note, Democrats set new low levels for scumbaggery.
God Bless the memory of Officer Sicknick, but damn the Democrats for using his death as a cheap political prop to promote their impeachment theater. Aside from Trump having NOTHING to do with his death, Democrats call police racists, terrorists and murderers and are defunding their departments all across the nation. They have NEVER done anything to honor a fallen officer.

Capitol Police Officers Jacob J. Chestnut and John M. Gibson were the first private citizens to lie in state beneath the rotunda after they were killed defending the Capitol in 1998. Bill Clinton was President at the time.
Honoring Officer Sicknick in the same way is nobody’s “political prop”. The accusation is typical right-wing bullshit. Right-wing propagandists devote enormous time and energy to their efforts to dehumanize and demonize democrats—far more than they do to thoughtful argument in support of their positions and policies. I don’t actually recall Donald Trump ever having made a coherent, logical argument weighing the pros and cons of anything. He just repeated memes and slogans and punched his audience’s buttons.

Ashli Babbitt was shot while attempting to climb through the smashed out window of barricaded door that opened onto a lobby leading to the House floor, where elected officials had taken cover while waiting to be evacuated. Babbitt was at the front end of a howling mob that was trying to get to them.
The shot was fired to stop them. Why the name of the shooter has not been released should be totally obvious. Were it known, the officer and any family he or she might have would immediately become the target of violent right-wing lunatics. There’s certainly no shortage of those.
It should also be apparent from multiple videos why anyone behind the barricade charged with defending the lives of our elected officials would have fired a shot when the door was actually being breached. People who had no problem rationalizing what Derek Chauvin did are suddenly finding fault with a this? It’s an odd inconsistency, to say the least.
