A California high school teacher has been placed on leave after she wondered if her school would permit an organized walkout to protest abortion.

According to CBS Sacramento, Rocklin High Schoolā€™s Julianne Benzel said all she did was have a conversation with her class last Thursday and Friday about the ā€œpolitics of protestā€ ā€” a lesson ahead of yesterdayā€™s school walkouts. Benzel said ā€œI just kind of used the example which I know itā€™s really controversial, but I know it was the best example I thought of at the timeā€”a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided ā€˜I want to walk out of school for 17 minutesā€™ and go in the quad area and protest abortion, would that be allowed by our administration?ā€

She insists she ā€œnever discouraged her students from participatingā€ in the demonstration, but considered the propriety of a (public) school supporting some protests ā€¦ but not others.
