“This does not appear to be a hate crime,” he said. “It’s very early in this investigation but thus far the evidence and statements suggest that a verbal altercation turned physical and somebody got hurt.”

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and putting together a list of suspects. Brinkley encouraged those involved with come forward voluntarily before arrest warrants are issued.

Police said it is not theirs to charge a hate crime if the situation does turn out to be racially motivated, but that the District Attorney’s office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have been briefed.

“It’s up to the Grand Jury to make this determination. All we do is process the evidence and turn the case over to the District Attorney who in turn presents it to the Grand Jury. It’s within their discretion to add the hate crime enhancement,” Brinkley said.

They are calling it a “Michael Brown revenge attack.” Note that white victim Weems had already entered the establishment when his friend Knighten was warned by man outside “that it wasn’t a safe place for whites, because people were upset by the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.” Clearly, the man outside knew that there were a number of blacks inside had previously made it known that they wanted to commit “vengeance” on a white. How can this possibly be called “revenge” when it was an innocent veteran who was confronted by these thugs, then followed, attacked and beaten. And how can they possibly claim it is not a “hate crime” when the whole reason for these thug’s actions was to specifically target an unsuspecting white as the recipient of a racist mob’s “social justice.”

With races reversed, this is no different than the KKK of the last century attacking innocent blacks for “being black” and in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course it’s a “racially motivated hate crime!”

@DrJohn#2 – Then Mr Holder needs to explain to me and to the American people how, by virtue of being in a minority, you are somehow above being a racist. That a black person attacking a white person is not a racist act, when it is the opposite, white attacking a black it automatically constitutes as a hate or racial crime.

I think America needs to hear this explanation. Especially those of the white persuasion who have had family members murdered, robbed, raped, beaten by blacks.

If he cannot then he needs to undergo psychoanalysis or a psychiatric evaluation to prove he can handle his most important position in a lucid manner.
