The Central Intelligence Agency is continuing its series of “woke” recruitment ads despite continued criticism.
A “cisgender millenial,” a person who has “been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder,” an “intersectional” officer, and now a gay man have all been showcased as the country’s top intelligence agency seeks to “create a more inclusive environment.”
“Growing up gay in a small Southern town, I was lucky to have a wonderful and accepting family. I always struggled with the idea that I may not be able to discuss my personal life at work,” a man in the ad said. “Imagine my surprise when I was taking my oath at the CIA and I noticed a rainbow on then-Director Brennan’s lanyard.”
“I remember being stunned,” the man continued, before explaining that “inclusion is a core value here [at the CIA].”
“Officers from the top-down work hard to ensure that every single person, whatever their gender, gender identity, race, disability, or sexual orientation, can bring their entire self to work every day,” the man said as the ad concluded.

The ad is the latest in a series called “Humans of CIA” and comes as previous recruitment videos were widely ridiculed.
“I am a woman of color. I am a mom. I am a cisgender millennial who has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I am intersectional, but my existence is not a box-checking exercise,” a woman in a previous ad said.
“I did not sneak into CIA,” she added. “I earned my way in, and I earned my way up the ranks.”

We’ve seen the results of the CIA worrying more about checking boxes than seeking out and countering national security threats. Instead of preventing Iran from attaining nuclear weapons or undercutting Chinese aggression, they are concocting false accusations and coup attempts against lawful Presidents.

“Woke” has become a right-wing propaganda term used to put a generalized negative spin on issues involving social conscience. It replaces thought and analysis about important issues with a loaded catchphrase that can be punched like a button to shut them down.
The right has done the same thing with other terms and phrases. “Liberal”, for example, is a broadly positive term as defined by history, by any good dictionary, and as used by progressive thinkers to describe their own social and political views; right wing propagandists have turned it into a disparaging term in the minds of their audiences.
“Mainstream media” is another. For the most part, the mainstream media attempts to adhere to traditional journalistic standards, investigating systematically and reporting truthfully; propaganda outlets that are proven purveyors of false news, disinformation, and biased reporting designed to manipulate their audiences have devoted enormous time and energy to putting a negative spin on the term, while holding themselves out as the only sources of Truth.
When and why did “consensus opinion” become a negative phrase, useful for rendering the most widely held opinions of recognized bodies of experts less credible in the public imagination than the contrary pronouncements of a few known crackpots?

“Woke Democrats” is a right-wing social media meme for the simple minded.
