Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was not in the U.S. Capitol Building when a mob violently stormed it on January 6 but rather in her Cannon Office Building office. The second-term congresswoman has since recanted her experience during the deadly siege, which she has described as “near-death.” However, no rioters broke into Cannon, a Wednesday report from the conservative publication RedState claims.
Ocasio-Cortez has since slammed the report as “the latest manipulative take on the right.”
When running through her experience that day, Ocasio-Cortez said that—out of fear that rioters had entered the building—she hid in her personal room’s bathroom. During a Monday livestream, she claimed that rioters had entered her office, according to Newsweek.
She revealed on an Instagram Live session that she was a survivor of sexual assault and described the feeling she had while locking herself in the bathroom as similar to the one she felt at the time of the assault.
She also said that she was hiding behind the door “and then I just start to hear these yells of, ‘Where is she?’”
The yells, it turns out, came from a Capitol Police officer. He reportedly burst into her office, whose presence, she said, “didn’t feel right” and that he was looking at her “in all of this anger and hostility.” One of her staffers reportedly wondered if he would have to fight the officer.

She clearly stated that the incident she described involving the shouting Capitol Police Officer took place at her office. Only senior members of Congress have a secondary office in the Capitol Building itself. Most don’t. All of their main offices are in adjoining buildings, which are connected to the Capitol by underground walkways. She didn’t lie or mislead anyone about where she was. People are responsible for their own erroneous assumptions.
Attacking Ocasio-Cortez is most likely an attempt to distract from the fact that the House minority is harboring a QAnon lunatic in their midst who moderated a Facebook page where the executions of Democratic members of Congress and Trump opponents was advocated. She new about these posts because she commented on them herself.
As of January 6th, this sort of crap ceased to be amusing.

The Biden administration is presently trying to figure out how to reunite 628 undocumented children with the deported parents that they were forcibly taken from by the Trump administration. They were sent to separate camps—uh, detention facilities—and the parents were separately deported with no system established to keep track of them or reunite them.
Maybe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez empathizes with them more than Donald Trump did. It’s even possible this made her angry.

A violent mob was running wild nearby, not on a television screen. Capitol Police were being dragged from doorways, down steps, and being beaten. Around 140 of them sustained significant injuries. Several were seriously injured. People died. What do you not understand about this?
