Obama promises US “bugging out” amidst increasing violence

On the heels of Obama’s version of a “Mission Accomplished speech” just three days ago, apparently some militants in Afghanistan are registering their thumbs up by executing twin suicide bombings in the following days. On Friday, ten people were killed, 24 wounded, by a bicycle bomb detonated in a busy bazaar in Khad Abad district of the northern province of Kunduz. 24 hours later, a car bombing at a hospital in Logar province, just south of Kabul, killed 60, wounded 120. The hospital attack has been called “unprecedented” in the history of the near-decade-long Afghan war by officials.

President Karzai, criticizing Obama’s politically expedient announcement of the US “bug out”, issued a statement stating that that militancy was on the rise in both his country and the Middle East region.

Obama’s “Nixonian” Moments – Ignores White House Lawyers On Constitutional Authority To Wage War In Libya

So, you’re a liberal who protested against President Bush for being an imperial megalomanic out to control the world and wars against all those oppose him. Now that you’re living with President Obama, who now shows he has even overstepped Nixon’s legacy for imperialism, are you out there protesting?

The Taliban Prison Break…And It’s Aftermath

Close to five hundred captured Taliban are now free once more to fight another day:

In one of the most elaborate prison breaks in recent Afghan history, the Taliban managed to free hundreds of inmates from Kandahar’s central prison in the early hours of Monday morning through a 1,180-foot tunnel.

Two birds, one stone: US “exits” Libya, and has been out of Afghanistan since 2006

Ah, the convenience of “just words” – pretty speeches designed to soothe the savage citizenry, and give us all new definitions by which to gauge “victory” and political approval in the 21st Century. INRE wars and enemies, the global War on Terror is obsolete, and has been replaced with “Overseas Contingencies”. And now, our POTUS has assured us that the US “exit strategy” for Libya “…will be executed this week” when command of the no fly coalition forces is turned over to NATO. This new definition tag teams Curt’s post yesterday about using language to disguise “failure” for Libya.

But some aren’t fooled by this play on words, and Jake Tapper calls out the POTUS on his convenient redefining of the absurd new age war concept, “exit strategy”.

The Libyan Strategy….Or Lack Of Any

Excellent summation of this Libyan situation by George Friedman and why Obama has really stepped in it this time:

…According to the narrative, what happened in Libya was another in a series of democratic uprisings, but in this case suppressed with a brutality outside the bounds of what could be tolerated. Bahrain apparently was inside the bounds, and Egypt was a success, but Libya was a case in which the world could not stand aside while Gadhafi destroyed a democratic uprising. Now, the fact that the world had stood aside for more than 40 years while Gadhafi brutalized his own and other people was not the issue. In the narrative being told, Libya was no longer an isolated tyranny but part of a widespread rising — and the one in which the West’s moral integrity was being tested in the extreme. Now was different from before.
