The woke NFL’s Super Bowl has come and gone, and I could give a rat turd. With pro football taking most of the oxygen of the sports media over the last few days, two NBA teams quietly made a trade that was far bigger than the on court skills of the players involved.
The Houston Rockets are waiving Enes Kanter Freedom after acquiring the center via trade, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Kanter Freedom has averaged 11.7 minutes, 3.7 points, and 4.6 rebounds in 35 games this season. He shot 52.6 percent from the field.
As teams raced to get transactions done before the NBA’s trade deadline concluded on Thursday at 3 p.m. (ET), Boston shipped a package including Kanter Freedom to Houston in exchange for center Daniel Theis — who previously played for the Celtics from 2017 to 2020.
On the surface, this seems like a trade where a team strangely released a player who looks like he could still be a contributor. Sometimes teams make trades for other reasons, such as offering salary cap relief on bad contracts. But of course, this being today’s NBA there is another possible reason:
Freedom’s appearance on the court this season has been scarce, with some fans and supporters speculating that his anti-China messaging caught up to Enes and made him a liability due to the Association’s link with the Chinese market.
The Rockets previously found themselves in hot water with the CCP when former general manager Daryl Morey supported Hong Kong’s independence in 2019. Morey caught flak for tweeting “fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong.”
I’ve never been more than a casual NBA fan. As a North Jersey kid on the 70s & 80s, me & my friends rooted for the Nets. And because of those Nets being hit garbage back then and the fact that all of the Celtics & Knicks fans we knew were a**holes, we also rooted for the Sixers. Phily was a last line of defense against the Celtics and they did have Dr J. And like any other sports fan, even if I never loved hoops the way I did football, it was impossible to not get a little bit caught up in the excitement of the NBA of the 90s – Jordan, the Dream Team, etc. And then they decided they were too prosperous and went on strike in the late 90s, and then… whatever.
But ever since LeBron decided he needed to become an “advocate” and the league went full woke, I now make an effort to avoid watching the NBA – if I come across a game while channel surfing I can’t turn it off quickly enough. The only NBA stories that interst me now are those like this one. Yes, this trade could be completely innocuous, but the fact that an outspoken critic of China gets traded to the team that was in hot water with the Chinese Communist Party for criticizing them is too much of a stretch. So congratulations, China – you can now say that you officially own the NBA.
To reverse Occam’s Razor (Never assume ill intent when stupidity can explain), I offer you what I call Brother Bob’s Razor (I haven’t heard anyone else say this, so I’m claiming it. Feel free to correct me in the comments if I’m wrong) when it comes to explaining political Nimroditude:

Years ago I noted that, in Islam, it was a death offense to disparage Mohammad, and by “Mohammad” Muslims meant any Muslim by any non-Muslim.
A death offense.
Now you are just “cancelled.”
China cancels you and there’s no way back except to eat your words with conviction.

I used to follow the Mavericks, but Cuban destroyed that for me. Now, the NBA has completely kowtowed to China, openly and shamelessly. It’s pretty significant that for all their “wokeness” and outrage over all the racism they see in the US, they completely submit beta-style to the CCP authoritarian dictatorship, ignoring its gross atrocities that only one person, Freedom, has the BALLS to stand up for rights and freedoms. Hearing him interviewed, no doubt this comes as no surprise to him and was fully anticipated.
It only makes me despise the left more the way they ruined sports for me.
