The polls are not an accurate reflection on voter sentiments.
If word got out the President Trump was and has been way ahead of sleepy joe, the campaign would have been over two months ago as it rightly should have been. As embarrassing as it is that clinton was a more formidable opponent in 2016 and the harris/biden ticket is far behind where clinton was in 2016, the media has to make it seem that it is a race. The reality is that joe lost the election even before he was the nominee.
