In the aftermath of the indictments Mueller rolled out against 13 Russians, democrats revved up the hyperbole machine in a preemptive effort to protect against criticism of their own failures.

Friday on MSNBC’s “All In,” Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said Russian interference with U.S. elections and political processes that resulted in 13 indictments against Russian nationals was “equivalent” to the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese in 1941.
He insists that 13 Russian trolls posting smack on the internet are the same as 2300 dead in Pearl Harbor.

Still, numerous Democrats seized on the indictment, with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) lamenting that Trump “denies reality” by minimizing Russia’s offensives and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slamming Trump for presenting no “strategic plan to confront the Russians.”That was the “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” moment.
OK, now for some fun facts
Russia began efforts to mess with US elections in 2014– a year before Trump even announced his candidacy.
The Russian government had a strategic goal to “sow discord in the U.S. political system, including the 2016 presidential election” the indictment reads. The indictment also revealed activity pursued by the Russians to organize political rallies, building partisan social media audiences across the political spectrum, and funding political stunts.
According to Mueller, the Russian government created a sub agency known as the “translator project” which was “focused on the U.S. population and conducted operations on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube” adding that the strategic goal of interfering in the 2016 US election was developed all the way back in May 2014.
The stated goal within the department was to spread “distrust towards candidates at the political system in general.”
It was in 2014 that Devin Nunes warned about Russians trying to meddle in US elections:
He wrote that the Russian government led by Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “pressing threat to American interests” and pointed to an op-ed he wrote in April 2014, a month prior to when Mueller said Russia began its 2016 election interference campaign, in which he warned of the danger of Russian “influence operations” around the world following a trip to Eastern Europe and Ukraine following the seizure of Crimea.
“The House Intelligence Committee has been investigating these threats for many years: in 2014 – the year the Russians began their operation targeting the 2016 elections – I warned about Russia’s worldwide influence operations,” he wrote.
Further, he noted that he said in April 2016 during a CNN interview, in the midst of the 2016 primary season, that the U.S.’ failure to predict Putin’s strategy is “the biggest intelligence failure that we’ve had since 9/11.”
obama learned of Russian attempts to influence the election in 2015. He did nothing. The cover story was that he didn’t want to put his finger on the scales. It could just as well have been obama following through on his promise to be more flexible for Putin. And it was John Kerry who let the Russian operatives into the US.
In contrast to the liberal hysterics generated by the indictments, obama thought them to be kind of amateurish.

Exit question: Do the indictments of the Russians for trolling the election mean Russia is free to indict Hillary Clinton for her interference in the 2011 Russian elections? How about indicting obama for interfering in the Israeli elections? The French elections? Brexit?

This whole deal is a fiasco, playing to the Dimocrats in their theater of the absurd. It’s not against the law for me to interfere in the Russian’s elections. It’s not against the law for Russians to interfere in the US elections. I can say, on this site, as many times as I want to that I want Trump to be elected the next president instead of Putin and there is not a damn thing the Russians can do about that. That’s why I find it very humorous for Mueller to ‘indict’ 13 Russians for interfering in the US election. Does he think Russia is going to export those people over here for him to put on trial? Even if Russia spends millions of dollars to influence the US election, so what? I’ll bet almost any newspaper or magazine or webb site would accept advertising money from me to advertise for Trump to be elected as president of Russia. In fact, next national election they have in France, I’m going to run an ad or two for General Lafayette for president.

@Redteam: And, you know what? If the corrupt liberal media would be doing it’s job instead of serving at the pleasure of the Democrat party, there would be no room for Russian interference. It is a pitiful shame that some scumbag like Assange has to serve the purpose of an objective media that will provide the public with the information they need to make a decision on candidates, but that is the case.
The media will withhold stories they believe (in a common mindset with the politicians they protect) will harm liberals. They weren’t demanding answers in 2016 how Obama was going to safeguard the elections, they weren’t investigating ads and posts that seemed odd or suspicious to them. The President didn’t want anything to muddy the waters in the Hillary victory, so he made sure no one else stirred them up either. Thus, not just a failure to identify and defeat a threat they NOW act as if it were a dire threat but they also played the part of Russian allies in ignoring it and, in the aftermath, making sure the damage was severe.
The Democrats chose to run a corrupt criminal. Even if the accusations against her were not true (but there is no doubt they are), we have seen what happens to candidates when harsh accusations are made against them and they manage to stick, true or not. More times than not, they are forced out of the race for the good of the party. Yet, not only did the DNC leadership support Hillary in the face of all the negatives she carried with her, they rigged the race so she would be the candidate THEY WILLINGLY CHOSE!
The Democrats set themselves up to have been used by the Russians and don’t seem inclined to stop helping any time soon. It’s not Trump that needs to do something to reverse the damage done by Russian interference… it’s the Democrats. They need to SHUT UP.
