About that North Korean ballistic missile test

What we read in the news is often too simple to really convey the gravity of a story.

“North Korea launched a ballistic missile yesterday (5/13/17) that flew about 500 miles and landed in the Sea of Japan”

Here’s what really happened that CNN, MSNBC, Reuters, AP, and others don’t mention.

DPRK launched a missile at 5:27am Seoul time. It headed ENE for 450+ miles, and landed about 97mi S of Vladivostock after 30min flight. HOWEVER, what seems to have everyone shaking their heads is that it flew to 1200+mi in altitude then came down through the unusually high arc.

At almost the same time….

Flying at an altitude that was more than 1000 miles under North Korea’s ballistic missile was the International Space Station. It could be seen from Seoul at 2:47am yesterday, 24 degrees above the horizon, at 250+mi up traveling to the NNE.

The station probably passed over Korea safely without any danger. I’m not saying North Korea tried to hit the ISS, but there had to be a few HOLY CRAP moments at space command yesterday.

The launch was far more likely sabre rattling/ie their norm in response to Putin’s meeting w China.

The ISS only flew directly over short period, and you’d probably be crazy to try and hit it with an unguided ballistic missile (if it’s unguided). Again, my point is to illustrate how dangerous North Korea is to the world-not to claim they tried to shoot down the International Space Station.

Hey Scott!

Do you know much about the new South Korean president? Do you think South Korea will continue to warm to North Korea and Korean unity at the expense of maintaining a strong alliance and bond with the U.S.?

An old post of mine, related.
