The Department of Justice spied at length on James Rosen
The Justice Department spied extensively on Fox News reporter James Rosen in 2010, collecting his telephone records, tracking his movements in and out of the State Department and seizing two days of Rosen’s personal emails, the Washington Post reported on Monday.
In a chilling move sure to rile defenders of civil liberties, an FBI agent also accused Rosen of breaking anti-espionage law with behavior that—as described in the agent’s own affidavit—falls well inside the bounds of traditional news reporting. (Disclosure: This reporter counts Rosen among his friends.)
UPDATE: Fox News responds with a blistering statement that asserts Rosen was “simply doing his job” in his role as “a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”
The revelations surfaced with President Barack Obama’s administration already under fire for seizing two months of telephone records of reporters and editors at the Associated Press. Obama last week said he makes “no apologies” for investigations into national security-related leaks. The AP’s CEO, Gray Pruitt, said Sunday that the seizure was “unconstitutional.”
The Obama administration has prosecuted twice as many leakers as all previous administrations combined.
Since then, it’s only gotten worse.
Maryland State Police and federal agents used a search warrant in an unrelated criminal investigation to seize the private reporting files of an award-winning former investigative journalist for The Washington Times who had exposed problems in the Homeland Security Department’s Federal Air Marshals Service.
Reporter Audrey Hudson said the investigators, who included an agent for Homeland Security’s Coast Guard service, made a pre-dawn raid of her family home Aug. 6 and took her private notes and government documents that she had obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
The documents, some of which chronicled her sources and her work at The Times about problems inside the Homeland Security Department, were seized under a warrant to search for unregistered firearms and a “potato gun” suspected of belonging to her husband, Paul Flanagan, a Coast Guard employee. Mr. Flanagan has not been charged with any wrongdoing since the raid.

The IRS has been targeting conservatives since at least 2010 and together with cooking the census books very likely altered the 2012 election. Obama promised a “full inquiry” into the matter.
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama tried to defuse a trio of controversies Thursday, pledging to work with Congress to ensure the IRS doesn’t abuse its power, urging legislators to provide more money to strengthen security at U.S. diplomatic outposts and promising to seek “a balance” between national security and a need to protect freedom of the press.
“I think we’re going to be able to fix it,” Obama said, speaking in particular of the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups for special scrutiny. He vowed to make sure the agency is “doing its job scrupulously and without even a hint of bias.”
Trying to steer clear of Republican criticism of the administration’s response to the terror attacks that killed four Americans last year in Benghazi, Libya, the president called on Congress to work with the White House to provide more money to strengthen U.S. diplomatic missions’ security.
The result? You can guess.
More than half a year after the IRS targeting scandal broke in May, federal investigators have still not contacted any of the 41 conservative groups represented in the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) lawsuit against the IRS.
Though the FBI and IRS both launched investigations into the wrongdoing, and Eric Holder’s Justice Department vowed to cooperate with the FBI probe, none of these agencies has contacted the ACLJ’s clients to figure out what happened.
“It’s now been more than six months since the public revelation of the IRS targeting scheme. The Obama Administration — including the White House — has repeatedly promised that an investigation would ensue and that we would get to the bottom of this unlawful and unconstitutional scheme. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be happening. To date, not one of our 41 clients has been contacted by the FBI, the Justice Department or any other federal investigative agency,” ACLJ chief counsel Jay Sekulow told The Daily Caller.
Obama’s response is to make persecution of his enemies official policy and make the IRS the enforcer for the democrat party.
Lois Lerner retired to get out of the crosshairs and she will receive a handsome pension as a reward for her contribution to the Obama schemes. IRS Chief Counsel William Wilkins has developed amnesia with regard to his contacts with the White House.
No one has been fired for any of this. No one has been punished. That leads one to a specific conclusion- this is exactly what Obama wants. It’s all part of the plan. Nothing else makes any sense.
The one thing they all have in common is “Obama promises” and you know what that’s worth. If you put all Obama’s promises in one spot they would form one big steaming pile.

Have already seen several articles written in the msm news. These from apparent liberals suggesting that Prez Obama ignore the Constitution and run for a third term. So the push for a 3rd term is actually beginning in the msm. It seems that the Repubs don’t have the ‘grit’ to challange this Democrat Obama train. Scared of the Flack from the msm I imagine.
Also someone on this thread keeps pronouncing that a ‘Majority’ of Americans support Amnesty (or whatever). I beg to differ. Perhaps the msm propaganda causes some to believe that a majority of Americans are IN with all these liberal causes, but from all serious polling I have seen, the Majority of Americans are still Conservative – regardless of party. I think I’d like to see the real true numbers from those who keep saying over and over that the majority of Americans support Amensty (or other liberal causes).
@DrJohn: DJ, I’m as conservative as anyone here, but realistically, there is no way Obama can declare martial law on a national level. If something major happened, such as a big terrorist attack, he could, to cover that situation, but not ‘nationwide’. No one is going to sit by and not have a presidential election in 2016. I don’t think the US military is going to be a major force in killing Americans. That hasn’t happened since everyone’s favorite president, honest Abe did it back in the 1860’s. The constitution is not going to be amended to allow a 3rd term. I will be the first to say that Obama is a total unmitigated disaster as a president and is solidly committed to doing all he can within his 8 years to destroy the Republican style of government and replace it with full blown socialism/communism, but his signature event Obamacare has just about proven to be his complete downfall. No one is going to be standing around shouting for more Obamacare type laws. Even his strongly supporting Unions are deserting him on the issue. He’s on his way out at the end of this term.

Let’s start at the beginning with him wanting a national civilian security force that is as strong as, and equally funded as the military. This statement was not in the speech. For some reason, he added that on his own. If you look at the actual report of the speech, that part is missing. Why was it deleted? Why does he want a civilian security force that is as strong as the military, and when would he ever use it except to defeat the military? When would a force like that be needed when we have many civilian police agencies, several federal police agencies, and the National Guard? The military could then be called up if needed.

He is changing the obamacare law and other things to what he want them to be. Laws passed by congress can only be changed by congress. The president can’t change laws, unless he is a dictator.

I’m not a history buff, and did lousy in it in school, but look up the countries that used to be free, but have some kind of dictatorship now. There are several steps that were taken to accomplish this:
Change the country’s constitution, or ignore it completely.
Take away the citizen’s guns.
Draw them away from the Christian and Jewish religions.
Get rid of the generals.
Set up a civilian force to report people who aren’t obeying the new rules.
Bankrupt the country.
Etc., etc., etc.

Now it makes a little more sense, today I caught a little flash news item that said a group of congressmen were proposing a new law that would give congressmen automatic Standing before the Courts to challange Executive rulings. Maybe they are anticipating exactly what DJ is talking about.

The way that he is stopped is that each state will have their primary, as scheduled, then the two parties (and others) will put forth a nominee and the public will vote on November X, 2016 and whoever gets the most votes will become president on Jan 20, 2017. It’s been done that way a long time and even during the civil war, it was held as scheduled. No one is going to change that without a constitutional amendment and I think that would be extremely difficult to get done before 2016.
I know, and agree, but this is a ‘relatively’ new thing for him and the congress will eventually get tired of letting him usurp their power to make laws and will pass some laws to shut him down on that. A good example, this ‘nuclear option’ is going to work very much against him because the Repubs are going to be in charge of the Senate in 2015 and they are not going to be his lap dogs as the Dims are now. More and more cases of his Executive (dictatorial) Orders are going to the Supreme Court and most will not be upheld. He is not, according to the constitution, allowed to pick and choose which laws he will enforce. Even his pardon power does not extend to granting pardons ‘before’ the crime is committed, (admittedly he does seem to think it does) His little ploy of ordering Holder to ‘not enforce’ certain laws will come home to roost when it becomes a law that ‘everyone’ wants enforced.

As they both agree, the concept of the American Constitution is that it is extremely difficult to pass a new law. All those that howl about Republicans filibustering, etc. That’s the way it is supposed to be. If it is a law that really should be passed, there is a method to get it passed. But the president is not allowed to create a law just because he is a Dimocrat and the Republicans don’t want it passed. He still HAS to go through the process. Another point of law is the ‘power of the purse’. If you don’t want a law enforced (the congress) deny the president the money to enforce that law or change the law. But as I said, this recent concept of the president to ‘make’ laws with Executive (dictatorial) Orders will not last and will be shot down by the courts and congress. It won’t be allowed to continue.

Not sure where you live, but in Texas, we can fit about 1/2 the Eastern Seaboard, it takes a bit to get from one side of the state to the other. As I have said many times, there no longer is a republican party. I printed out obama’s birth certificate that I had items circled, and had the explanations of why the experts say they prove the document is false, printed it out, and mailed it to all of my federal reps, and the governor, who are all republican, and asked them if they had even looked at the certificate, and asked them to reply. Not one did. I asked a second time, and still haven’t gotten an answer.
Shortly afterword, Labrador had a Town Hall, and I got to ask him, “How does a person who doesn’t have an American birth certificate, is using someone else’s Social Security number, has a fake Selective Service registration, and doesn’t even have a driver’s license, get to be president of the United States?” All he would say was, “I believe he is legal.” I asked him if he had looked at the birth certificate, and he kept saying he believes obama is legal. I had a printout with me, and asked him to look at it, and he wouldn’t take it.
Why aren’t the republicans even looking at the birth certificate? Can you blame me for not wanting to belong to ANY political party? I want non-politicians in office.

Since I am retired, I am better off then most people. I rent an apartment, so I didn’t lose my house, but because people are losing their houses, and can’t afford to buy another one, they are renting apartments, so that raises the price of apartments.
Shortly after obama got elected, my IRA dropped about 30% It took several years to get back up to what I had before he got elected. I don’t know how much I didn’t make on the amount my IRA was reduced.
Since I’m not working, I didn’t lose my job because of the lousy economy, or have to take a large wage cut to keep it.
The lousy economy helped me get a great deal on a $39,000 pickup. People can’t afford new vehicles, so they are buying used vehicles, which has raised the price of used vehicles quite a bit. The auto dealers have last year’s cars to sell, and the new ones are coming in, so they have to greatly reduce the price of the earlier year vehicles, even though they are still new, and haven’t been driven.
We have more people on Food Stamps than Greece has people, and the government is still advertising for more people to get on welfare. I don’t know how much the total welfare is when you add in unemployment and all of the other
The stock market is up because of the $85,000,000,000 obama is printing every month. That is about $1,000,000,000,000 per year. Can you honestly say that that isn’t going to lead to inflation? That will raise the price of everything I have to by, and leaving money in the bank or IRA will make it worth less and less. A person would be better off to spend all of their money on merchandise or property that can be sold later at a higher price.
People are considering taking wage cuts so they can qualify for the subsidies for obamacare, but since I don’t have a job, that won’t affect me.
Gun owners are paying much higher amounts for ammo so that some of them can’t afford a warning shot any more. I have never had to fire a warning shot, and probably never will, so that won’t affect.
Except for making less on my IRA and having to pay higher rent, I’m fortunate enough not to be as affected by the lousy economy as a lot of my neighbors and the rest of the country are.

I suspect that Smorg’s direction was because he sees nothing better and any changes as downward. So I’m gonna guess you can list a lot of things that are better for the average citizen. What ranks higher than a US Citizen? What are the different levels of citizen? What privilege does any citizen get that all are not entitled to? Are you saying that president has a special constitution interpreted only for him? Is enforcing the law only against the opposition party a privilege that a president has? Either the oath, ‘I swear to uphold the constitution of the US of America” means something or it does not. Can’t have it both ways. If the law says that an illegal alien will be deported within 90 days after he is apprehended, do you think that should mean that an illegal alien should be deported within 90 days after he is apprehended, but only if he’s not related to a friend of the president? that’s individual rights. Each person should do whatever he wants that doesn’t infringe on others rights. If someone wants to be fat, that’s their business and it’s not my business to judge whether he has made a good personal decision, or not. Unless you walk in his shoes, you can’t know what is behind his personal decision and what is ‘good’ or not for that person. I’m sure if you look at a 400 lb guy, you’d think he wasn’t making a good personal decision. How would that judgement change if you then found out that he used to weigh 600 pounds? I know you like to run and go to the gym, but I’ve never seen any evidence that will extend your life or make your quality of life any better, but, hey, if that’s what turns your wheels, go for it. I’m sure you’ve heard of Jim Fixx, who made decisions to spend his life running, after age 36, and died from it. He likely would have lived longer had he not overstressed his heart from all that running. Think he made a good personal choice? I’d say he probably did, but it didn’t help him.
@Redteam: The Fixx story is an anomaly and a cop out.If someone is obese the odds are high they are going to have health problems and die younger than a non smoker of average weight.
You’ve never seen evidence that exercise extends one’s life? How bout improves one’s quality of life?

Infringe on someone’s rights. Agree–No smoking in restaurants was a good start.
I do agree that if someone chooses to live an unhealthy life it’s their business.Doctors and medicines won’t save them.

isn’t that open to interpretation? Or is only your opinion of value? Suppose someone never exercises, goes out drinking beer every night, dances with chicks, maybe picks up one. Are you to say doing that regularly is not a better quality of life than starving yourself, exercising to exhaustion, too tired to go out. Worried about what drinking a beer might do for you. Which is better?
How so? I had a cardiologist that exercised regularly, did all the right things, died of a heart attack at 54? I had a heart attack in ’93, haven’t exercised regularly, weight is good, don’t ‘diet’, do drink beer and/or wine, arteries are clear, no stents or bypasses, lot older than 54. Enjoy life.
Actually, no. And even if I did, it might be like the evidence that BHO’s birth certificate is not a fake, all fake. I do believe if you exercise reasonably that you will likely ‘feel better’ but I doubt that’s related to living longer or better.

I was watching a wild animal show, the hyenas, they stay as a pack they kill as a pack,
the male lion came after the queen and killed it, the princess daughter of the queen is in charge
even very young, only her has the right of leading the pack,
the lion goes after her and killed her, they are running away now, but one is attack and escape IN THE WATER,
because the lion want to eat his kill not hyena, the hyena lost a leg, she try to rejoin the pack,
the lion his again after her, the pack don’t back up to help her,
she is slow and caught by the lion who kill her,
THE BEHAVIOR IS SIMILAR TO SOME HUMAN SAYING, YOU CANNOT STAY WITH THE PACK,
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN TO DEFEND YOURSELF, YOU ARE OBESE AND NEED CARE, YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK, YOU WILL BE OBESE ONE DAY BECAUSE YOUR MUSCLES EXPANDED, AND IN YOUR OLD AGE WILL MAKE YOU OBESE BECAUSE OF YOU TRAINING, AND HOPFULLY THE DOCTOR WILL HELP YOU

I’ve heard at least a couple of doctors raise the possibility; that each human heart is only really good for a certain maximum number of heartbeats, and that athletes might be dying young simply because they used up their heart beat limits early.
